Maddie, my Himalayan cat, in one of her moods. At the time that I took this photo, I had no idea it would be my last. She passed away Nov. 6. She gave me 19 years of purrrfect happiness….
My cat Jade named for her beautiful green eyes.

The cheetah’s short fur is tan with round black spots measuring from 2 centimetres to 3 centimetres across, providing camouflage while hunting. There are no spots on its white underside, but the tail has spots, which merge to form four to six dark rings at the end. The tail usually ends in a bushy white tuft. The cheetah has a small head with high-set eyes. Black “tear marks” run from the corner of its eyes down the sides of the nose to its mouth to keep sunlight out of its eyes and to aid in hunting and seeing long distances.

Another shot of this lovely wild cat.
If we are asked to imagine a sophisticated hunting machine some of us will surely think of their beloved cat. Cats are fast, athletic, flexible, have a lot of patience, and a killer instinct. We all have seen hunting cats moving one foot at a time, staring intently at the prey they are stalking on a hot summer day … and occasionally we find a dead or alife “gift” on our doorsteps. It’s just a shame that we do not appreciate a good gooey mouse as much as our feline friends do. I don’t know what kind of a cat this is. I saw her running free on a private parking lot close to a major Interstate and asked the man who’s feeding her occasionally and gave her the bell. He said he wouldn’t know either … he’s taking care of the cat because she obviously has no home. / / I wonder what this cat is thinking behind those china blue hypnotic eyes ... / / If you are considering buying a gift for yourself, or a cat loving friend, then there’s no better choice than a cat art print or poster. Please note: RedBubble automatically re-sharpens and adds contrast to the uploaded images for web display. That’s why some originally properly exposed, sharp thumbnails and large previews appear too harsh and too sharp. / Purchased Printed Photographs are properly exposed and sharpened!
A Jaguar on the prowl…:) Endangered and I love this big cat and the black Jaguar / / /
The Jaguar is a New World mammal of the Felidae family and one of four “big cats” in the Panthera genus, along with the tiger, lion, and leopard of the Old World. The jaguar’s present range extends from Mexico across much of Central America and south to Paraguay and northern Argentina. This spotted cat most closely resembles the leopard physically, although it is usually larger and of sturdier build and its behavioural and habitat characteristics are closer to those of the tiger. While dense rainforest is its preferred habitat, the jaguar will range across a variety of forested and open terrain. It is strongly associated with the presence of water and is notable, along with the tiger, as a feline that enjoys swimming. The base coat of the jaguar is generally a tawny yellow, but can range to reddish-brown and black. The cat is covered in rosettes for camouflage in its jungle habitat. The spots vary over individual coats and between individual Jaguars: rosettes may include one or several dots, and the shape of the dots varies. The spots on the head and neck are generally solid, as are those on the tail, where they may merge to form a band. The underbelly, throat and outer surface of the legs and lower flanks are white. A condition known as melanism occurs in the species. Melanistic Jaguars are informally known as black panthers, but do not form a separate species. Rare albino individuals, sometimes called white panthers, occur among jaguars, as with the other big cats. Jaguar females reach sexual maturity at about two years of age, and males at three or four. The cat is believed to mate throughout the year in the wild, although births may increase when prey is plentiful. Mating pairs separate after the act, and females provide all parenting. The gestation period lasts 93–105 days; females give birth to up to four cubs, and most commonly to two. The mother will not tolerate the presence of males after the birth of cubs, given a risk of infant cannibalism. The young are born blind, gaining sight after two weeks. Cubs are weaned at three months but remain in the birth den for six months before leaving to accompany their mother on hunts. They will continue in their mother’s company for one to two years before leaving to establish a territory for themselves. Young males are at first nomadic, jostling with their older counterparts until they succeed in claiming a territory. Typical lifespan in the wild is estimated at around 12–15 years; in captivity, the jaguar lives up to 23 years, placing it among the longest-lived cats.

The Sumatran tiger (Panthera tigris sumatrae) is a subspecies of tiger found on the Indonesian island of Sumatra. The wild population is estimated at between 400 and 500 animals, occurring predominantly in the island’s national parks. Recent genetic testing has revealed the presence of unique genetic markers, which isolate Sumatran tigers from all mainland subspecies.

Colored pencil drawing on Strathmore Bristol Board 11” x 14”. Some of the minor highlights made with Exacto knife and acrylic paint. Drawing done from a photo. Some years ago the southeastern Mountain Lion became endangered, but it is my understanding that the population has since grown. In Florida they have been known to be called “panther” which is a misnomer. Native to the US, Mexico, and Canada, the Mountain Lion is also called “Cougar” and “Puma”.
Meet Pebbles a new edition to the family. The cat (Felis catus), also known as the domestic cat or house cat to distinguish it from other felines and felids, is a small predatory carnivorous species of crepuscular mammal that is valued by humans for its companionship and its ability to hunt vermin, snakes, scorpions, and other unwanted household pests. It has been associated with humans for at least 9,500 years. A skilled predator, the cat is known to hunt over 1,000 species for food. It can be trained to obey simple commands. Individual cats have also been known to learn on their own to manipulate simple mechanisms, such as doorknobs and toilet handles.Cats use a variety of vocalizations and types of body language for communication, including meowing, purring, “trilling”, hissing, growling, squeaking, chirping, clicking, and grunting.Cats may be the most popular pet in the world, with over 600 million in homes all over the world. They are also bred and shown as registered pedigree pets. This hobby is known as “cat fancy”.
I had been deliberately avoiding drawing tigers, even though they are one of my most favorite animals, because I was intimidated by all of their stripes. So this piece was my challenge to myself. Sadly, the Bengal Tiger is an endangered species. Original measures 11×15”, mixed media (oil pastels, colored pencils, metallic paint pens, art pens) on cinnamon red ridged Strathmore paper.
