A poem about our nemesis – my husband almost lost a leg to one of these black beauties – and even though we rid ourselves of them as quickly as we can, you have to admire the self-sufficiency of the female. I posted a nice photo of some newly emerged (though short-lived) babies as well.

This is a subject close to my heart. No one should have to go hungry, but to say that does not feed them. To lament it does not either which is the whole point of this poem. Action is the only way to stop it. We all can play our part in some way.

Do you ever really look at the homeless face that begs you for money? Never look down on a person just because he/she is homeless. Examine why they are. There may be people who are homeless due to bad habits that you may not want to encourage, but not everyone. Some people are really hungry and need to eat or are jobless, penniless and can use your support just until they get on their feet. Next time, look into their face. Don’t just walk away.
