Well, some of you may have noticed that Red Bubble has introduced RSS Feeds to our JE’s and our Portfolios :) VBS WELL DONE RED BUBBLE!!! I can’t wait for feeds on comments and a feed on our Activity Monitor. For those of you unfamiliar with Feeds … You will notice when you look at someones Portfolio or JE’s now, you will see the little Feed symbol and the words subscribe to the left of it. What this means is that if you have a Feed Reader (I will mention those a little later) you can subscribe to a feed of that page and will be notified of any updates on that page at set intervals :) So now, rather than having to manually check to see if people have updated their Journal … or added new works …. you can have all the new stuff FEED right to you automatically :) Okay … my Feed Reader of Choice is called OMEA but I have a fairly fast system with 2Gig of Ram, so for me it’s not a problem to run. It’s a very big program and takes up a LOT of resources. Anyway … I thought I would try another Lighter Feed reader from a LIST of Ten. I am currently testing RSS Bandit and as far as I can tell so far it’s a great program for keeping up in RB :) I have added the Forums .. and also added Whirli to test …. all works really well :) :) Thanks Whirli ;) You can even send comments from within the program (on Journal Entries or works) so there is no need to flip back and forth from RB in your browser and the Feed Reader :) I haven’t looked at all the options in there yet, but so far it’s doing a good job of basically keeping me informed. It will take a while to add and categorize everyone … but once done .. adding new people will be easy and I will no longer need to manually check in RB for peoples updates etc :) I’ll leave this JE now …. if anyone is interested in using RSS Bandit … I can add to this to help you set it up … most other Programs would run similar so any instructions here would probably help with those too :) :) Happy RSS’ing :) :) VBS View all my HOW TO’S

I sometimes look at photo’s I’ve taken and noone leaves any comments, I can only make the conection that noone likes them, and that’s fine, it’s not a problem, the reason I like them maybe more subtle, a texture or a shadow. / What I would love is if people would say why they don’t like a shot, I would learn more by that than any positive feed back, not that I’m saying I don’t like positive feed back, because I love it as much as anybody. / Sometimes I look through other people’s work and think it could be improved, but are scared of leaving criticism, because I don’t want to hurt anybodies feelings, and I’m not the chief judge of photography. / I would like anybody who wants to help my work to reply to this, or if anybody would like my humble help, to leave a reply to this, or even suggestions of how to say criticism without hurting. Thanks Tony

I’ve been really diggin the widgets ive been making, and placing them all over the place. It started just with my own personal stuff that i wanted to put on my other blogs/websites (yes, i have many).. then, i wanted to show others how they could utilize the RSS feed found within Redbubble (gallery, groups and forums). today i made a PAGE of Widgets from the RSS feeds of some of the groups i belong to in Redbubble.. / Widgets for You if you want me to make you a widget that i havent made yet..just bubblemail me. if you would like any of the widgets you see on the page, just click on the “Get Widget” button/link and it will give you codes you can copy and paste into your website, profile at myspace, facebook, bebo, and many other places..you will see all the familiar logos ;)

Ok every one…listen up… i have found this new website called www.freerice.com. This is an absalutly incredible site. It basically sets up a simple vocabulary game with a word and four multiple choice words and all you need to do is click the word that works best, simple enough, right. The greatest part is that with every answer you get right 20 grains of rice are given to the United Nations to help stop world hunger. Together we can do somthing about this, its fun, free, and very easy. If your one of those people who want to do somthing but dont know what to do, this is YOUR chance. So check it out and lets do our small part to help those in need. I have a button on my Overview that you too can add to your overview, just copy and paste http://www.freerice.com/banners/392_72_FullBanner.jpg!:http://www.freerice.com/ with an ! at the very beginning into your ‘about me’ in your ‘edit profile’ section. / Thank you for reading this and helping feed those in desperate desparte need. I just can’t seem to get these old health sayings straight. Some of them just seem down right complicated. / “An apple a day keeps the doctor away…” OK – so you eat an apple every day and don’t have to go to the doctor. But what happens when you get a cold. Do you have to stop eating the apples because if you don’t you can’t get the doctor to come into the examining room? How does he know that you’ve been eating an apple a day anyway? / “You are what you eat.” Well, I guess I’m a pepper. You know – he’s a pepper, she’s a pepper, we’re all peppers. Wouldn’t you like to be a pepper, too? If your not 50-something and from Texas you might not understand that muchly out-dated commercial ditty. Anyway, invision a beautiful, round, green Bell pepper lounging on the beach. She’s under an umbrella, a big chilled glass of Dr. Pepper on the rocks. Yes, I’m a pepper! / “Eat well, drink in moderation, and sleep sound, in these three good health abound.” I do, I do eat well. I very seldom drink anything except Dr. Pepper so I guess I’m a moderate drinker. I don’t always sleep sound but I sleep alot. you see – I’m just confused by all this. / “Feed a cold, starve a fever.” Now that’s the one that’s really confusing. Is it “Feed a fever, starve a cold”? I never can remember and that really causes me concern. I mean, what are you suppose to do? / By chance I recently ran across some remarks made by a professional nutritionist who said there was no truth to the old adage. The nutritionist also said that there was also no validity in the saying if you reversed it. So – I can only glean from all this that it is silly to starve a fever and/or a cold and it’s equally foolish to feed a fever and/or a cold. So – what do you do? Is there an alternative? / With my recent diagnosis of cancer I have had a great amount of well wishing friends who provided food for myself and my family. We have been treated to some of the best dishes in our area. We’ve had homemade meatballs and sub fixin’s that would make Subway’s Jared envious. Warm, gooey, delicious Brownies fresh out of the oven didn’t last long around this house. We have had enchilada casserole’s that had us all saying “Ole!” and Sopapilla Cheesecakes that melted in your mouth. Chicken Fried Steak, Fried Chicken and gravy that the Colonel couldn’t match. A pecan pie that could have earned a blue ribbon at any state fair in the South and a Pork and rice casserole that convinced me that my daughter had inherited her grandmother’s cooking abilities. We were treated to a potatoe casserole that was virtually gobbled up by my two boys before we could get it to the table and chocolate chip cookies that made a very brief visit in the kitchen – then they disappeared. And talk about disappearing acts – you should have seen how fast a whole loaf of homemade bread vanished into thin air. / I’ve said all this not only to brag on the cooking abilities of some very dear friends but to let you know that cancer isn’t all that bad, especially when you eat well. I’ve been feeling really good since I haven’t had to cook in over a week! I’m telling you delicious food has made a huge difference in how I feel. I, therefore, have decided to enter a new saying in the books for all suffering from cancer. It’s not nearly as confusing as those other sayings and it will improve the way you feel – guaranteed. It simply goes like this – “Starve a cold…FEED A CANCER.” You can’t go wrong!

A few weeks ago (or maybe more..) i came to a point where i wanted to have small something (widget, feed, etc) that i can place on my main website (webgrrl.biz) and few other blogs that i have.. something that shows what’s been sold recently from all the places i have my art.. The only quick solution i could come up with (and with no cost) was to make a blog and post the info items, and taking the opportunity to Thank the buyer at the same time.. and so artSOLD was ‘born’ From there, i can then grab the rss feed and utilize it in many different ways.. my favourite being the widget at widgetbox : see here In a marketing and business sense, I’m not sure if this has been done before. We usually make a blog or websites to promote what art we make and whats for sale.. but making a blog/journal of what we’ve sold, i haven’t come across, and i have this belief that people like to know what people are buying, popular etc too.. So i thought, Why Not to have one for what’s sold!? Plus if/when buyer comes across the acknowledgment of thanks, thats a positive energy too…and im all about and for Spreading the Goodness! artSOLD took me a full day to set up, using a free blogger template i went lookin for.. Then i put thinkin caps on to see what ‘widget, promotional’ goodies there is available from all the three main places i associate with.. maybe you want to make one too.. :) Its a nice journal to have, and it makes you work just that bit harder (in promotions especially) so that you get sales, and that means a new post! :)

Or – Why Blogger and not MySpace, Content, and other ways to make money with your feed. So you have your nice burnt feed, and you have it plastered everywhere you can. But there’s more, what about content? Why Blogger? etc. Well, MySpace is maybe fine for MySpace. But first off Blogger gives you a bigger reach than you may have with just your sites and networks, via blog groups, pings, blogrolls, linkbacks, etc. Any blog book can explain this stuff for those who don’t already know about it. But there’s more. Ads: / One thing that makes MySpace blogs look crappy is all of the ads on the page, especially at the top. Anytime anyone clicks on that ad on your blog page, the advertiser pays a price per click, which goes right to MySpace, not to you. On Blogger, you have the option to sign up for AdSense, which is content driven (ads are triggered by keywords), and there are plenty of other ad providers you can sign up with as well, many where you can pick and choose the ads you want on. I have actually opted not to do this for now, as i’m trying to focus on content sales, ie t shirts, not have people click out on ads. But another option – you can keep the ads off of the front page, and instead run ads on just your archive posts. Just wrap these tags around the code snippet AdSense gives you – < ItemPage > </ ItemPage > . Good enough. Content – Affiliate t shirt and other sales / One reason i resisted Blogger for so long, other than the fact that I’m no writer, is that i didn’t want the pressure of posting on a frequent schedule. Because you do have to post with some regularity to not drop off the radar. And if i posted primarily new designs, well, i’ve done around 4 over the past 3 or 4 months. And 2 or 3 of them sucked and were just site filler. But it’s an ideal situation to post other people’s shirts and stuff to generate content, reviews, and make a few bucks from other people’s stuff. It’s easy with Zazzle, you don’t even have to have a shop there, just an associate’s account. They pay 15% = volume bonuses, and there’s cut and paste code. RedBubble – Please an affiliate program! There’s such great work on here! Amazon.com / This is the thing about MySpace that really gets stuck in my craw. If you have a blog there, of have seen anyone else’s blog posts, often you see those thumbnail icons with “currently reading” or “listening to” of “watching” or whatever. (I read a lot, like a book a day, and not Barbara Cartland. And i have lots of other books to recommend, photography and art books for design references, poetry, literature, etc.) Click on that link, and it takes you to the Amazon.com page for that item. If someone actually buys it, Amazon pays a comission (i think around 4%). But, that comission goes to MySpace, but on your blog content, and your recommendation. Tacky, sleazy, low rent, cheesy. (sound familiar?) / But with Blogger, you can sign up for an Amazon account yourself, and any book, DVD, CD, or whatever you blog and recommend, you just add your code that they give to the end of the item page link url, and if anything you recommend sells, you get the comission. You probably won’t get rich, it will most likely be a pittance, but better you than MySpace getting it. / You can also get associate accounts from Ebay, Imagekind, Art.com (who i refuse to promote as they gouge to pay their artists too small a comission). / Please RB – affiliate program! If anyone is interested in ths sort of thing, i have lots of other info and tidbits about feeds, For example, Zazzle allows tailored feeds, so i created a category in each of my shops there called “New and Featured”, i have a feed for that category on my Facebook pages, and everytime i make a new shirt and put it that category, it shows up on that feed, and people can subscribe to it (but not by email).

I’ve been doing a lot of research on using rss feeds and blogs lately, because marketing degree notwithstanding, i hate marketing. Especially the obnoxious spam and invasive type, i hate getting it and i hate to put it out. But i have weird niche markets, so i can’t really scratch my butt and wait for people to find my stuff on MP’s or find my website either, the type of people that like my kind of stuff don’t really shop at the big POD’s, so i have to either find them myself, or put my stuff in a place where they can find it. So i have been looking for some ways to reach them via non-invasive marketing techniques. E mail marketing is kind of great for busy people that like your stuff, but don’t have time to check out your site every few days to see what’s new. And there are problems with the usual ways of using email marketing. / One way is to use the email function like the one that CafePress offers. Problems – brand spam, content control. And one for me – i have a shop there, but i don’t have them on my website, in fact, at CP I have all outward bound links to my sites spammed all over my header on all pages. / Building your own email list is another option because you have control over content, but it’s a LOT of work, cgi scripts or a paid service, people have to visit your site to opt in, and more importantly, a lot of people probably don’t want to provide their e-mail due to privacy and spam fears. / Which leaves a better option. What if you have a lot of sites, a lot of shops, and in addition to designing t shirts or artwork, you have decks and shoes and posters at Zazzle, you’re in a band, you’re a writer or a photographer or a website designer, you run marathons, and you support a favorite charity? So you want to include a lot of this info in your mailing list as well. / A blog with a burnt feed is ideal for this. You just start a blog where you post your content, new designs, sales and promos, and any other info you see fit. Burn your feed, then you have the html generated to post anywhere you like, not just your site. Profiles, myspace, facebook, other shops, even in your email or posting signature. So if someone suscribes to your feed by email, they simply get an email everytime you make a new post. Simple as that. / And it’s pretty simple to set up too. You’ll have to get an account at either Blogger or MySpace, unfortunately those are the only 2 options. I very highly do NOT recommend Myspace for this purpose, for many reasons. The blog looks like crap, you may not want to send people outside of MS there, and most importantly, MS makes money on your content that should by rights be yours. More on that later. / So first thing is to get an account at Blogger and set up your blog. (It’s free and simple.) Then make your first post or two, maybe an intro post, and then one of maybe a new shirt design or new artwork, or a sale or promotion that you have going on now. Good enough! Then click on the feed suscribe button to get the feed url. (it will say “feeds” in the url there somewhere). Copy that from your browser, and hold onto it, you’ll paste it elsewhere. / Then go over to Feedburner to burn your feed. Paste the feed in the place provided on the home page. Then create an account, and claim your feed. If successful, click on the “Promote” tab, and select the options of publishing a chiclet for subscription, and then on the offer e mail subscription. The html is cut and paste, and there you go! But one more thing – go back to Blogger click on “settings” and then on the “feeds” tab. Here you’ll have to enter the url that Feedburner will give you to redirect your subscriptions there. So this is what it looks like – I have to give you my MySpace page, as that’s the only place i’ve pasted it so far. And yes, my blog looks like crap too, i just set it up like 2 hours ago. Asian Tees on MySpace Look for the links on the right under that blob of text under the Asian Tees banner, and right before all of the images.

hi, with my uni course ending in just days, i felt it necessary to put together a bit of an online folio so i can send it around and get some jobs happening. would really appreciate some feedback if possible! i designed the site, but a friend helped me code it. at the moment i haven’t bought a domain name, but i will shortly… for now you can find the site at… http://dotaudesigns.com/alex/ its a folio site, so it has lots of pictures. so make sure you let it load fully! also, it tends to spaz out a bit in Internet Explorer, so if you can preview in safari or firefox, or anything other than IE, your experience will be much better :P thanks heaps. ps. incase its not obvious, all the images are clickable :D

It is possible to add a very useful tool to every site (RedBubble Profile, Bubblesite, any Art-site or T-Shirt-site…) to see directly and live, who is visiting you…. :) For me it is very informative…..... maybe for you too…....... Now I will describe how to do this…........... You have to go here to FEEDJIT and you will see there in frames, under “Cut and paste the code below into any HTML page for your own instant Live Traffic Feed” a code, looking for example like this: < a href=”http://feedjit.com/ir1/5ceae12346ade7ae/”>< img src=”http://feedjit.com/b/5ceae12346ade7ae.png” alt=”” ISMAP />< /a> Just copy it, paste to the site where you want to see your visitors (write it for example in your comments of a new photo, which you have just posted)... Now you have to copy the last html-address (in this example: http://feedjit.com/b/5ceae12346ade7ae.png) and use it as a “normal” picture you want to post… Just write it between two exclamation marks: ! http://feedjit.com/b/5ceae12346ade7ae.png! (without the empty space….) Now you add the first html-address from Feedjit and use it like a link (in our example: http://feedjit.com/ir1/5ceae12346ade7ae/).... You write it after the picture address after a double point…. And it looks like this: ! http://feedjit.com/b/5ceae12346ade7ae.png!:http://feedjit.com/ir1/5ceae12346ade7ae/ (without the empty space….) It will work and show you your visitors…. When you go to: WATCH LIVE, you can remove your IP, and you don’t see yourself, just the other visitors….. Use for every new site a new code, which you can generate clicking FEEDJIT again…. When you have BLOGGER or TYPEPAD BLOG, you can add this tool to your blogsite too (just click here) and you will get even much more useful informations: for example from which site the visitor is coming, or which site he is using to leave your blogsite…. you even can see which words he is typing in google looking for your blogsite… very cool!......... Because of this adaptation to work this tool here at RedBubble some informations are lost, but anyway, you still can see live your visitors, not only as a number, but as a live feed….................. I love this tool! Try it too…... With a lot o greetings Nuh Sarche Read also: Free buttons for your website… or Little helper to write nice comments… or Use a descreet visitors counter and see informative statistics… Who’s among us?

I just been notified that my piece, Friendship, was featured in the Image Writing Group!! I am truly honored because my tears are in this piece. I did this one in gratitude for my friends that send their thoughts, kind words, and prayers for my brother who almost died of a heart attack! This feature is for my friends, my beautiful Red Bubble friends. Many thanks to the group, and many thanks to my friends because without their kind words and prayers, this piece would not exist!! Bless you all from the bottom of my heart!!

How delightful it is to see a result from our efforts in an unexpected way. The letter to the editor, below, appeared in my local newspaper – Bacchus Marsh, Victoria. And the relevance … ??? It’s from fellow bubbler Matt Mawson of Tullebudgera, Queensland. And Matt’s letter was in response to the Moorabool News’ donation of the photo below. / It says: I’ve just seen the photo of Bruce Snaith and Colin Mullane (M/N 10 Feb), via www.redbubble.com/people/phoenix-appeal/art, loading hay for donation to bushfire stricken farmers. It occured to me that the bushfire crisis has brought out the best in people in a way that the economic crisis can’t. We feel helpless in the face o fthe economic downturn, but we know that we can do something about the suffering of the bushfire victims by donating in some way. I feel proud to be Australian when I read about people like Bruce and Colin, the extraordinary efforts of the volunteer firefighters, and the huge response to, for example, the Red Cross Bushfire Appeal. Matt Mawson. / Well said Matt, and warm fuzzies all ‘round. / By the way, Matt, my editor was absolutely chuffed! /

I wish we could lose the new Image Feed feature. I’m getting a bit tired of opening up my page and having to look at all the nudity and soft porn. It’s not even art, it’s just raunchy photography most of the time. With the image feed feature, we don’t seem to have a choice. I’m not a prude but I am getting a little sick of it. You can’t choose not to look at something that is staring you in the face! Just my two cents.

From July to September I’ll be making a donation from every sale I make here on Red Bubble and at Sunday Arts at the Abbotsford Convent to ‘Feed Melbourne’ www.feedmelbourne.com.au. Feed Melbourne aims to raise $1 million between June – September to help charities collect and distribute food to those in need throughout Melbourne. Given that most of my photography is of Melbourne I thought it would be well suited to support this cause. Sunday Arts at the Convent – 1 St Heliers Street, Abbotsford is held on the first Sunday of every month from 10am – 4pm. The market is indoor and there is a great bakery, restaurant and bar at the Convent for when you’ve finished shopping! Kylie

A new site, and sometimes one we’ve been on awhile, can be overwhelming if we don’t know how to get around. If you are not computer savvy, it can even be more difficult. Since I belong to Redbubble SCOUTS, and have been welcoming and encouraging new RB artists, thought I might put it out there to help make this site a little easier to get around and understand. / Once you’ve opened an account, if you don’t have a picture uploaded, your icon will simply be a red bubble in a character comment blip – NOTE: if you want to make sales, a picture of yourself always lets the customer connect to you and your work. / OVERVIEW Page / I call this page the ‘catch up page’, since all your activity shows up on the feed. / On the left side of the page is usually those you’ve added to your watchlist and their uploads, any commentary on your work, replies to your commentary – ALL check marked if you have looked at those pages, replied and the feed type is gray, rather than the blue links if you have already responded. NOTE: on the right side of the page, you can configure what you wish to show up on your ACTIVITY FEED, by clicking onto Filter activity Feed. Comments: when someone comments on your work, you can reply (click) and they will receive a feed that you responded – if they are rude (click report) or delete (if you wish to report, do this first before deleting)– when you just comment below you will be the only one who knows. / On the Right side of the OVERVIEW page is: / Add Work – clicking here scrolls down Art, T-shirts, Calendars, Writing & Journals / Filter Activity Feed – as mentioned above, you can configure this feed to be included on your Daily Activity, or just check on the lists for features, favorites and all the other goodies mentioned therein. / Sales History – RB always stays on top of your sales and lists what you’ve sold and how much you’ve profited. / Edit Profile Page – clicking here lets you build your profile to maximize your friends and customers to know who you are and what your art is about. Profile Page: your URL for your profile will be www.redbubble.com/people/yourname to edit this page, you can add links to other sites and pictures like instructed above, in the describe yourself box. The daily feed question request has been helpful to me, not having to sign in daily. They’ll send you an email of your daily activity – you click onto any underlined feature, activity or comment and you are there – I save them in my email inbox, until I receive the next one. / View Profile – lets you see your finished product for marketing yourself and your art. / Below that gray colored feed is a list of any and all GROUPS that you belong to, including whether or not you are participating in a challenge, including vote counts. Groups: join the ones you feel you can get the most exposure and follow their specific rules, you can click onto anyone in your watchlists’ list of groups to seek commonalities. Or, while looking at artwork posted by others, on the right side where the description is – below are underlined groups that have accepted the artwork and you can click those to learn more. Challenges: RB just made most of the challenges really very easy as the group will send notice in your overview feed, click onto enter now and all the work you have uploaded will show up to chose from for entering; note whether they require a TAG, you may need to edit before entering. They have not yet mastered entering “writing” works, most groups do it in forums. / The next box down is Redbubble Community News, always interesting tidbits for the benefit of the community at large. / If you are into FORUMS, the next section lists your Watched Topics, the forums you have the most interest in watching. Across the top of your page are small buttons, their functions are: / ACCOUNT – edit profile, change portrait (icon), edit addresses for payment, accepting user agreement, edit payment details, viewing sales, change password and/or cancelling account. / ART – from here you can either add a new piece of Artwork or view all the art you have uploaded so far, details of total amount of ART & views can be seen at the top OR each artwork shows sales, comments, favorites and views of each individual piece. NOTE: the top 6 artworks show on your profile page and you can move these around according to the arrows at the far right side. You can also click onto ‘edit’ from this page on any individual artworks. Image Sizes: For all sale items except clothing and calendars, the size of images uploaded should be 2500×3500, then in the ‘Items for sale’ section (below tags), you can check all: cards, mounted print, laminated print, canvas print, framed print and posters for sale. If someone requests Large prints, medium & large posters or laminated prints and/or calendars you can then upload a larger image. / T-Shirts – the same as ART applies to Tees. You can save RB’s T-shirt template in your files – the size for the templates are: 2400×3200. In photoshop7, I open template, then add new layer, then open picture file I wish to transfer design, apply, edit the remove the original template and save the completed file as PNG. / Writings – since writings are not for sale, all but sales applies to your creative, poetic or short stories here with views, favorites and comments noted. / Calendars – Same applies here / Journals – all the same notations appear here for your announcements, daily going’s on, features, how-to’s and writings that are different than above. / Watchlist – all you have added as friends, co-artists/writers will appear here – you can also remove them from here. You can reach a lot of people using the Internet, but creating personal and lasting relationships is a more difficult task. It requires an openness and reciprocity that doesn’t come easily to most people. Not that we artists don’t have the ability, but exposing ourselves emotionally outside of our art takes practice and a thick skin. There’s also a tension between wanting to sell our art and not wanting to be too salesy nor abuse others with self-promotion. So, how can we promote ourselves using a ‘soft sell’ or ‘no sell,’ yet create sales? Here are a few ideas that members have shared in the Selling Group. 1. Share information, help others, and give encouragement on RedBubble It’s easy to get mired in the minutia of everyday life. No one can fault you for addressing personal priorities and work, but it only takes a moment to comment on an artwork, t-shirt, or a bit of writing. Share your expertise or give another member an encouraging sentence or two about how their work made you feel. These activities help elevate your profile – and work – on RedBubble. The more people that view your work, the better your chance of receiving a personal referral. If you’re interested in sharing ideas or have questions about selling art, join the Sales/Sharing Group here. We don’t judge and we don’t bite. Also, check out the RedBubble site and individual group forums. 2. Network web-wide with kindred spirits Track yourself and your interests with Google Alerts and Google Blog Search, among other tools. Alerts and Blog Search help you find websites that have content related to your artwork, t-shirt designs, interest areas, etc. A practical example would be for the Game of Kings to track websites that talk about chess. Chess destinations and fans would surely be interested in learning more about a stellar collaboration featuring artwork about chess. Track them, and then contact them with a friendly head’s up about your work. 3. Add people to your RedBubble Watchlist, Favorite work, and Comment on work Here’s a case of quality over quantity. Discover new kindred spirits, curate your Watchlist, and make insightful and positive comments that spur conversion and relationships. These relationships can bring helpful advice, collaborations, and again, referrals. There have been a number of times that my work didn’t suit a friend’s aesthetic, so I referred them other RedBubble artists. I sent a quick Bubblemail to these artists to note my referral. It’s good karma, and the artists appreciated my thinking of them regardless of the outcome. 4. Publish a blog or website about your subject matter, geography, technique, etc. The key to a blog is updated content. Ask yourself if you can commit to updating at least once each week – if only to post a quote and a link to relevant resources. Readers can visit your website directly or subscribe to a feed of its content. Did you know that you already have a RSS (Real Simple Syndication) feed in your RedBubble profile? Just go to your Profile page, click on Journal, and then find the “RSS” button in the address bar of your browser. You’ll see a page like this one: Simply copy the RSS URL from the browser bar and add it to your iGoogle, MyYahoo, Feedburner, or other newsreader account. Outlook and Apple Mail accept feeds too. Here are a few members that have used their blogs and websites to drive sales on RedBubble: Matt Moylan and Lilformers Helen Nehill and Bowerbird Blues As well as, Ron Moss, Bryce Casselman, Diesel Laws, Soniei, among many others. Please post your blog/website below. 5. Develop a rapport with industry websites Giant caveat – DO NOT simply email a thought-leading website with a generic note and URL, e.g., “please highlight my t-shirt.” Try to develop a rapport with the author first. Start by reading their website. Make sure their content matches your artwork. Ask what it takes to be featured on their website. Send them occasional links to related articles unrelated to your artwork. You’ll make friends in no time. We previously discussed tactics for contacting periodicals, magazines, etc. here. RedBubble can help you find the best press contact for your announcement; learn more in the Sales Group PR forum. 6. Give a little, get a lot Everyone loves freebies, chotchkes – whatever you want to call them. Email a digital postcard to a friend or contact. Embed you message in your artwork and subtly note your URL in the email body copy. Create business cards or product cards. Here’s an example from the always-giving Nuh Sarche. Another way to share is to show works in progress. Sam Dantone is painting a wall mural. It’s not for sale, but I loved that he shared his progress on RedBubble. Whenever I think of costal scenes, I’ll return to this mural and then browse through his portfolio. I could go on forever, but I’m interested in the things that members have tried. Add you comments below, or join the conversation here. Thank you. Regards, / Jason

There are times in our lives where we all feel like we’re not producing enough work or nurturing our creativity. It’s easy to reach a point where you feel as though you haven’t been creative for ages. Today I’d to share a little tool that has helped me avoid that feeling, even when I’m too snowed under to even contemplate spending time on a project. It’s called a feed reader (otherwise known as a software based aggregator or RSS reader). A feed reader allows you to read updates from multiple blogs and websites in one place, and saves visiting all your favourite blogs on a regular basis. It’s a useful tool for keeping up to date with news an information on the topics that you’re passionate about including art, design, photography and writing. It can serve as a great learning tool and source of ideas and inspiration … a bit like having a daily newspaper written just for you. Here’s a peek at just a few of the many (currently over 60) blogs I keep an eye on: / / / / / / Setting up a feed reader is quite simple. There are many web based feed readers including Google Reader, Bloglines and Netvibes. All you need to do is sign up for an account then add the feeds you’d like to follow. Each time you sign into you feed reader, you’ll have a list of recent posts on your chosen topics. For those who are interested in finding out more, these links should help: Which Feed Reader is best? Web Based Aggregators How News Aggregators and RSS Readers Work RSS explained And if you’re interested in finding some creative content, these lists are a good start: Top 20 (or so) Art Blogs 160 t-shirt blogs Bloglines most followed blogs The Top 100 Photography Blogs Best art and design blogs of 2009 Top 10 Blogs for Writers Top 100 Creative Writing Blogs This is how I make sure I get my daily dose of creativity outside of the bubble. How do you stay inspired and motivated when you don’t have time to create? We’d also like to hear about the creative blogs you follow … Nat

Well I have to say that my life has got a bit easier – in RB terms that is. / I have been a member for about 1 month and loving every minute but I just couldn’t understand how one could keep track of everything. It took me hours to look back on my activity feed to see what was going on and what work had been added. Then I had to go through my art to see if there were any comments for me to reply to. / Then I discovered, about three days ago, that I can actually filter my activity feed and everything is neatly organised into catagories for me to look at. How simple and easy is that. / Right, so that is RB sorted but now I need to find a filtered activity feed for the other things in life.

Aloha, my suggestion for you before you begin is to go to your / mybubble page. / On the right of this page which is “MyBubble Overview” you will see a list / Add Your Work / Filter activity feed / Sales history / Edit your public profile / View your public profile / / You will now be on your page My Account where you may change your account settings. / Now this is one of the most important things I would like for you to consider, for remember if you can do it, others can do it to, and I want you to consider that someone else may use this code to copy/paste your image onto an unauthorized webpage without your knowledge or consent. So many members have asked me in private how to do this so I have created this tutorial. Yet, it is important to watermark your work so that if it is copied and displayed by someone else without your knowledge or preauthorization, at least you will have your name on it, your watermark, and my suggestion is for you to scroll down on this page to where you see: / / Zoom View Watermark Preferences / and choose, click on, / Place a large watermark in the center of my images / / / Then down below you will also see / Other Preferences / / Notice: This journal is only a suggestion. / In no way am I telling you what to do or trying to influence you in any way. / Members have asked me how to do this, create large images, and so I am only suggesting that you take these precautions first to protect your own personal interests when you decide to post large images of your work on webpages. And another observation I have made is that the portrait type image looks best, larger than the landscape format. It is the dimensions of the field we are pasting it in that will determine the final size. / Click and turn on: / / Place a large watermark in the center of my images / Click and turn on: / / Discourage people from right-clicking or saving my images by placing a transparent image over the top of them. Please understand it’s impossible to prevent downloading of images displayed on web pages, but activating this feature will make it more difficult. Please note: Your original high-resolution images are never displayed on the website, and cannot be downloaded / Now, scroll to the bottom and save your changes. Exit or close the page, and open a new browser window. Choose your image you wish to display, either in a comment on your own journal, or to use when editing your image to display in the sidebar along with your description, or in your thank you note for a feature in a group forum, etc. It is important to note these are the only places I paste my own images. / I never do this with another members image, only my own images for which I own full copyrights. / You may wish to review my journal on the subject of copyright and personal journals if you have an interest and would like to join in the friendly discussion Open another browser window if you wish. Open MyBubble Open your art tab / I am going to use my image Silence of Devotion / as an example. Above in your browser is your image URL / On my image Silence of Devotion in my browser window, my URL address for my image is this: / http://www.redbubble.com/people/ourjrny/art/3977229-4-silence-of-devotion / That is the address for my image. When I attach this address to an image, it becomes a live hyperlink directly to my image. The code for the large image is: / http://images-1.redbubble.net/img/art/size:xlarge/view:main/yourimageurladdress.jpg You may wish to change the size. You can remove xlarge and type in medium or small…... Now, combine the two, with the code first. Then add the image number of your image. / In this case my image url address is 3977229-4-silence-of-devotion / So it will appear like this: / http://images-1.redbubble.net/img/art/size:xlarge/view:main/3977229-4-silence-of-devotion.jpg Place an exclamation point immediately before and after the large image code. Place a ! symbol before the first h of the http, and then again immediately after the g of the jpg. / It will appear like this with no spaces. If you remove this space between the first ! and h, the link will become an image. / ! http://images-1.redbubble.net/img/art/size:xlarge/view:main/3977229-4-silence-of-devotion.jpg! Now, add a colon symbol : / It shouldn’t be bold, I simply made it bold so that you could better see the symbol for a colon. / / : / Immediately after the colon symbol : add the browser window URL address for your image. Now the code will appear like this, with no spaces. / / ! http://images-1.redbubble.net/img/art/size:xlarge/view:main/3977229-4-silence-of-devotion.jpg!:http://www.redbubble.com/people/ourjrny/art/3977229-4-silence-of-devotion / / When you remove the spaces, it becomes a live image with an embedded link back to your webpage. Hover your mouse over this image and you will see it is a live link. Click on it and it will take you directly to my image. / / Here as an example also if you wish to add text to create a live link, simply remove the spaces below after the first ” symbol and after the colon : symbol and it will become a live link. / ” Silence of Devotion”: http://www.redbubble.com/people/ourjrny/art/3977229-4-silence-of-devotion / / Remove the spaces and it appears like this: / Silence of Devotion So now, you may display a full size image in your feature journal as you thank the hosts who have showcased your work. And if someone else uses this method to copy your work into their journal with or without your permission, the image will have your watermark in the center of the image with your name on it, so you will feel good about it. :))) Here is an example of where I have used my images displayed this way in one of my thank you for the features journals / I hope this helps to answer your questions. If you are viewing my tutorial and it has helped you in any way, please drop me a note in a comment and say…. Aloha!
