Eilean Donan Castle, winter 2007
Romance depicting heroic or marvelous deeds, pageantry, romantic exploits etc Eilean Donan castle bathing in the early afternoon light _As one of the most iconic images of Scotland, Eilean Donan is recognised all around the world. Situated on an island at the point where three great sea lochs meet, and surrounded by some majestic scenery, it is little wonder that the castle is now one of the most important attractions in the Scottish highlands. Although first inhabited around the 6th century, the first fortified castle was built in the mid 13th century and stood guard over the lands of Kintail. Since then, at least four different versions of the castle have been built and re-built as the feudal history of Scotland unfolded through the centuries. Partially destroyed in a Jacobite uprising in 1719, Eilean Donan lay in ruins for the best part of 200 years until Lieutenant Colonel John MacRae-Gilstrap bought the island in 1911 and proceeded to restore the castle to its former glory. After 20 years of toil and labour the castle was re-opened in 1932_ / http://www.eileandonancastle.com/

Hehe, I was quite bored today, so I decided to take some photos of the cats doing silly things… ; )
On my biketrip of yesterday I first went through the forests at Laage Vuursche. As I had hoped I met a horse rider again. She was riding towards the morning forest, a surely very enjoyable experience! So here you get another rider shot from a February horse path between high beech-trees with their last brown leaves. Today we had one of the great mornings again when you have both: haze and sunshine. A great opportunity for a lovely February walk and also for another atmospheric shot here in the forests near Hilversum. Greetings! It’s the start of a new month and I’ve just spent a few minutes looking at all the stats from last month and thought you might be interested in a quick snapshot. We’re a chatty bunch – last month there were 627933 comments on the site. We continue to receive feedback that the positive and supportive environment at RedBubble (often expressed via comments) is one of the most valuable aspects of the site. Here’s a graph of comments since launch: To put this into context there were 144690 works added to the site in February. Groups have steadily been building momentum: We have grand plans for the groups (after we get through our current roadmap) but it pleasing to see more activity happening in the groups. The sales on the site have well and truly picked up after the post Christmas lull. RedBubble is much more than a place to sell your work – in fact we think the most important thing we think we do is facilitate the evolution of a supportive, safe and encouraging environment where your talents can be shared and you can be encouraged and inspired to delve more deeply into your creative side … but I digress (for those who want to know more about what drives us try here or here). Here’s a graph of the number of unique works sold each day on RB: . In February we sent out 2204 sales notifications. If we consider a seller as someone who was sold something before on RedBubble (there’s some folks on RB who are just interested in sharing their work) then the average sales are at $150 per year (per seller). There’s no one yet making a full time living on RB but there are quire a few folks making 1/3 to 1/2 a living – and it’s not always the people you would expect. Some of the most prolific sellers have quite a low profile on RB – and they do a lot of work off site marketing themselves. As a general note – we’re a very entrepreneurial company – if you’ve ever got a business idea that you think we can help with drop us a line. In the last week we’ve had about half a dozen companies approach us wanting to distribute some of the t-shirts on the site (for example). That’s probably enough for today … in the next couple of days I’ll be calling for volunteers to help us road test a few new products we’ve got in the pipe line. So if you’re interested please keep checking out these RB journal entries. Ciao, Peter
Another rider´s shot, this time taken on long lane near Maartensdijk. I was very glad yesterday that there was both, the hazy atmosphere of a bright February morning and a rider coming down the lane just in time. Near Maartensdijk, 11th February 2009, 11.30 am / Nikon D80, Nikkor 18-200 mm at 200 mm / F 13, 1/50, ISO 400 Featured in “Live, Love, Dream” and in “Peace, Love & Tranquility”.
Now that we are nearly about to say “Good Bye” to February 2009 it is good to remember that it was not only the month with that grey and rather miserable miserable weather which we had on so many days. There were a few bright days, too, well worth to go out. And I am glad I did so with my bike on the morning of 11th February when you had a great mixture of sun and morning haze. / The forest near Hilversum again was worth the endeavour. Just the place to make you feel happy. I often say to myself that it is like cycling in a paradise. Seems like winter decided to make a return…yet again
Four candy hearts on black background with reflection.
Something completely non-artistic… however, it’s a nice image (digitally enhanced, of course). I’ll probably take it down after a few days, depending on its popularity. I guess I just wanted to share the moment. This eclipse happened on February 20th-21st, 2008, shot in Brazil **Edit: This image is staying due to its surprising popularity! :)
The Ghost gum has to be one of Australia’s most iconic trees, this one is located on the Hugh River Stock Route about 100km south of Alice Springs and is an impressive specimen. Life beside a small but dry creek bed looks to be easy for this giant as it dominates the landscape. Hugh River Stock Route, Central Deserts of Australia / Northern Territory / Australia
Friends are those that we choose to be part of our heart and life. They are a gift :) Don’t wait until Valentine’s Day to tell your friends how much you care about them. / Send them a nice card today!
This is a sign of spring for me, especially now, when some Robins have started to stay year round in Colorado. This picture was taken at Crown Hill Park, near Wheat Ridge, Colorado. The park belongs to Jefferson County Open Space, and they have a wildlife sanctuary in one corner of the park, where I got this image, in February 2008.
