Feast of St. Nicholas at Siggiewi, Malta. / Calender date for this saint is 6th December, but the feast is celebrated on the last Sunday of June. It is a major event. The town square is populated, not a spae to move…everybody is happy…especially the street hawkers who sells sweets, beverages and toys for children…. Setting off fireworks at the local village ‘festa’, which is the maltese word for feast. This was shot with my mid-range zoom lens. It was a handheld shot. 1/10 sec at f4. ISO 200 and focal length 24mm. It was not easy to get this shot but I finally managed to get one I liked. I used to think that it was not possible to get a decent image hand-holding a camera in low light. Sometimes I like it when I prove myself wrong :) I would still rather have had my tripod with me though!!

This feast for the senses was found, at the lake, at Alfred Nicholas Gardens, in the Dandenongs, in Victoria, in autumn this year. This HDR shot is 3 shots merged together with Photomatix Pro using tone mapping and details enhancer. I used a Canon DSLR EOS 350D camera and tripod, too.

A little bit about the Feast of San Gennaro: Although this is an annual celebration of faith, the Feast of San Gennaro is known the world over for its festive atmosphere, an 11-day event featuring religious processions and colorful parades, free musical entertainment every day, a wide variety of ethnic food delicacies, charming restaurants and cafes and even a world-famous cannoli-eating competition! The central focus of the celebration takes place every September 19th, the official Saint Day when a celebratory Mass is held in Most Precious Blood Church, followed immediately by a religious procession in which the Statue of San Gennaro is carried from its permanent home in the church through the streets that comprise Little Italy. “This Feast of San Gennaro holds a special place in the hearts of Italian people everywhere,” says Joseph Mattone, President of Figli di San Gennaro, Inc. “It is a festive period of faith and redemption, a time for remembrance and reconciliation, and a time for celebration.
