Feast of St. Nicholas at Siggiewi, Malta. / Calender date for this saint is 6th December, but the feast is celebrated on the last Sunday of June. It is a major event. The town square is populated, not a spae to move…everybody is happy…especially the street hawkers who sells sweets, beverages and toys for children…. Setting off fireworks at the local village ‘festa’, which is the maltese word for feast. This was shot with my mid-range zoom lens. It was a handheld shot. 1/10 sec at f4. ISO 200 and focal length 24mm. It was not easy to get this shot but I finally managed to get one I liked. I used to think that it was not possible to get a decent image hand-holding a camera in low light. Sometimes I like it when I prove myself wrong :) I would still rather have had my tripod with me though!!

This feast for the senses was found, at the lake, at Alfred Nicholas Gardens, in the Dandenongs, in Victoria, in autumn this year. This HDR shot is 3 shots merged together with Photomatix Pro using tone mapping and details enhancer. I used a Canon DSLR EOS 350D camera and tripod, too.

Designed by Andrea Palladio, Chiesa del Redentore (Basilica of the Most Holy Redeemer), better known simply as Il Redentore (Church of the Redeemer), is located on La Giudecca, one of the major Islands of Venice, Italy. Inside are works by Domenico Tintoretto, Veronese, Palma il Giovane, Francesco Bassano, Alvise Vivarini and Pietro della Vecchia. A festival and the church owe their origin to an epidemic of plague in 1576. At that time the Senate vowed to build the church and to celebrate the Feast of the Redemption; the Franciscans undertook the religious obligations. The building of the church began in 1577 and was completed in 1592. After the dedication of the church the Doge came every year with the chief officials of the state to a thanksgiving service. The Venetians still make a pilgrimage here on the Feast of the Redemption (3rd Sunday in July) to thank the Saviour for the end of the epidemic. A bridge of boats is constructed from Zattere across the Giudecca Canal, over which the procession makes its way to the Church of the Redeemer.
