  • No Place Like Home - The Dream Language of Oz by Karin Taylor
    by Karin Taylor

‘There’s no place like home.’ / ‘If I only had a heart, a brain, some courage’. Do these phrases bear any significance for us and i…

I wrote this a while ago with the intention of starting a new series of paintings on the Wizard of Oz….the idea is still there… I hope to begin a new painting/series soon on the subject. What I have written here, is the unfolding of the research work on my subject…it is important that I gain a deep understanding or insight into my subject, as well as preparing the visual side of things, i like to get a feel for it spiritually, or at least have an empathy with/for my subject/s. I read different editions of the story itself, and look at as many different illustrations as possible, rewatch the movie a few times, and listen to any music associated with it…for example the tracks from the movie, as well as things like Elton John’s and Katie Noonan’s versions of Goodbye Yellow Brick Road and eminem’s Yellow Brick Road and Raine Maida – Yellow Brick Road and anything else i can find associated with the imagery of the story… Somewhere over the Rainbow by Judy Garland / Somewhere over the Rainbow Eva Cassidy / Somewhere Over the Rainbow by Kamakawiwo / Fields of Gold Eva Cassidy

  • Forgiveness not forgotten
    by tkrosevear

I forgave you yesterday for hurtful words / today, I compromised for affection / I’ll forgive you tomorrow / and lose more faith in my belie…

Back in 1992, I wrote this quote in my journal, “Forgiveness is a courageous attempt to add steps to the ladder of the future. To forgive oneself is the doorway to heaven and the challenge of lives to come.” I cannot remember who the author was, but this quote is a part of my daily routine - / I forgive myself for what I’ve done yesterday, today and tomorrow! / In my counseling efforts the issue of forgiveness is always misconstrued, that in order to forgive you must embrace the person forgiven – this is NOT to say you need live with them, tolerate future abuse, or forget the lessons learned from this relationship. I guess that this particular belief is what sparked the inspiration for this writing at 2am this morning. / I am hopeful that someone struggling with Self-Esteem earns their presence and ability to hold themself in enough regard and strength NOT to compromise themself for Survival, Affection or Success! / Peace~ Imagine my surprise today 5/6/09, when my sweet sister DevineDay Dreams created created this beautiful artwork to accompany this poem…

A piece about self-doubt and lack of self-confidence. / I used to be insanely doubtful of myself. I only noticed my flaws, and felt that I was never good enough in anything I did. I’ve come a long way from feeling like this and and am now more accepting of who I am.

  • His Hands, and the Way of Green Sea Glass
    by Kristin Reynolds

How am I supposed to feel about your fragile state, / when all you even did was tap, tap, tap / my fractured glass / with your diamond-head …

This is a poem about my current situation, as told from my stand-point to my almost Ex husband. about being crushed by an alcoholic sucking my soul for so long and almost forgetting what it was like to be alive, loved, respected, listened to, and unafraid to speak. To have, after the better part of 15 years of that, to have found a man, a real man, who actually wants to hear/read what I have to say, and love me for who i am not what they needed to covet or to make to feel small…and how wonderful and alive I feel because of him. :) Thank You!

  • Naked
    by JaneSolomon

I am naked now / Stripped of all self confidence / Nothing left to lose / There is no more heart to bruise / There is nothing left to take / ...

This was not an easy one to write. I write this from personal experience. I write it for all those who have lived through domestic violence or who have lost a friend or a loved one in this way or who are currently living with physical and/or mental abuse. They often go hand-in-hand. It starts subtly and is always followed by profuse apologies and usually escalates from there. Mental cruelty has many ugly faces too and is part of a control mechanism which is designed to reduce you to ashes by always making you feel inadequate and bad about yourself. Do not allow it. Furthermore, if someone is jealous of you it does not mean that they love you but quite the opposite. If they are always going out of their way to try and make you jealous of them, that is not love. When someone truly loves you they will edify you and your spirit, not taunt you or continually drag you down. They will never play games with you or your emotions if they love you. Recognize it when it happens and never let it get further than that. Get away. Get out before it crushes you. There is absolutely no excuse for physical or mental cruelty, abuse or violence. If you are dealing with someone who plays mind-games then you are dealing with the utmost immaturity. You only stay because you have a low self-esteem and you believe that you do not deserve any better. Do not delude yourself into thinking that you can ‘fix’ them or hope that it will all change because it won’t. You can never ‘fix’ someone else as that is a choice that only they alone can make, or not make. Have the strength to walk away and drag your self-respect behind you if you have to. Never play into the hands of being a victim. Take responsibility for your own life and your own future. Seek counseling and do whatever it takes to become a whole person. Always remember that two half people never make a whole person. You will recover; you will love and be loved again. Learn to love yourself and live to tell the story. This is your LIFE. This is your journey. Make it a beautiful one. You know that you can. When you open your mind / To the miracle that is you / You will find a deep well / Waiting there for you / When you open your heart / To the beauty that is you / You will sing a healing song / Of the love within you © JaneSolomon 2009 Music
