subject: In the end, what do any of us really have? subject: This painting began as a self portrait, however the nose and mouth were wrong. I was overtired I suppose…haven’t been sleeping well lately. As I fought with it…another face began to emerge….a familiar face. Eventually I realised its the face of a friend I haven’t seen in almost 20 years. Why this face should bubble up out of my subconscious now, I have no idea. Although I have been thinking about the past a lot lately. currently listening to: These Dreams by Heart / ............................................................................................. / medium: Acrylic paint and soft pastels on 185gsm Arches paper. Sprayed with fixative. / ............................................................................................. / size: 42cm x 59cm (A2) / ............................................................................................. / New original art listed every Sunday night in my eBay store

After visiting a fauvism exhibition at the NSW Art Gallery, I was inspired as I love colour and brightness. I then turned an ordinary sketch of my cat, into a colourful painting. I still have the painting, but unfortunately, not Misty.

fauvism – information provided by wikipedia:
Les Fauves (French for The Wild Beasts) were a short-lived and loose grouping of early 20th century Modern artists whose works emphasized painterly qualities and strong colour over the representational values retained by Impressionism. While Fauvism as a style began around 1900 and continued beyond 1910, the movement as such lasted only three years, 1905–1907, and had three exhibitions.[1]The leaders of the movement were Henri Matisse and André Derain.RedBubble is a great place to find art, design, photos and writing from over 50,000 talented people.
