  • Cougar taken at Arizona Sonoran Desert Zoo near Tucson, Arizona.

  • This is a young (pup) Eastern spotted skunk (Spilogale putoius). They are a fairly unknown species in the Eastern half of the United States. I study them and other carnivores in Missouri where I was getting my PHD. From 1940-1980 their population numbers throughout their range declined precipitously by 99% (conservative estimate). They are excellent tree climber like gray fox, they do have a smelly scent gland for defense like the better known striped skunk, but they only weight about 2-3 pounds so they are much smaller by half. Curious and highly intelligent, they are actually better mousers than cats. This was an abandoned one that we took in and raised for educational presentations. It’s affectionately called Charley “Squirt” Whiff!

  • FINALIST IN THE NOVEMBER + DECEMBER 2008 NATURAL DEVELOPMENTS GROUP. This Thick-tailed gecko Underwoodisaurus milii was found during hand searches in spinifex in western NSW. We enjoyed his company during this early morning photo shoot. This species is reasonably common, in particular, through the granite outcrops of the great dividing range. • Fennec Fox (vulpes zerda) at Africa Alive, Kessingland, Suffolk, England. Any manmade cartoon character couldn’t be any cuter! I was besotted with these critters! ;o) Canon EOS 5D MkII with Canon EF 70-200mm L IS f/4 lens (through double perspex… ugh!)

  • Juvenile female Amur Leopard (panthera pardus orientalis) “Kiska”, born and bred at Marwell Wildlife, Hampshire, England. There are only an estimated 35 of these beautiful cats in the wild. Fortunately many zoos are keeping and breeding these critters to prevent them from extinction. I feel privileged that these guys live just down the road from me! ;o) Canon EOS 50D with Canon EF 400mm L f.5.6 lens handheld

  • ... try saying that after a few drinks….. ;o) Two Mute Swan Cygnets (cygnus olor) snapped today at Abbotsbury Swannery in Dorset. Canon EOS 50D with Canon EF 70-200 L f/4

  • / / Original pencil drawing on Aquarelle Arches paper 56×76cm / Drawing 15 hours/painting 12 hours = 27 hours total A digitally painted hand drawn artwork… the inspiration for this is “Meeting Places”... As a child one of the most frequent things we did together as a family was to attend church on Sundays, I went to a Catholic School and the church I remember best was St Agnes’ at Port Macquarie… the nuns would come over for morning tea sometimes, and the priests would come for dinner occasionally…they were the days of fun parish picnics and life that wasn’t so hurried..when we took time to socialise, meeting and enjoying one another’s company. Mum was/is a great cook and host…and although this picture isn’t authentic as a portrait of her and myself…it’s representative. It’s also representative of new life and hope for the future, as the mother figure is with child….. and the child herself nurtures the wildlife…perhaps she is taking them to church for a blessing… perhaps the joey has lost his mother and needs nursing til he can fend for himself. The kookaburra is all seeing and all knowing….. the wise overseer of the bush… in this case, he stands in as the owl figure.
