  • Misunderstood
    by Mundy Hackett

    US$6.65–US$152.00

This is a young (pup) Eastern spotted skunk (Spilogale putoius). They are a fairly unknown species in the Eastern half of the United States. I study them and other carnivores in Missouri where I was getting my PHD. From 1940-1980 their population numbers throughout their range declined precipitously by 99% (conservative estimate). They are excellent tree climber like gray fox, they do have a smelly scent gland for defense like the better known striped skunk, but they only weight about 2-3 pounds so they are much smaller by half. Curious and highly intelligent, they are actually better mousers than cats. This was an abandoned one that we took in and raised for educational presentations. It’s affectionately called Charley “Squirt” Whiff!

We enjoyed his company during this early morning photo shoot. This species is reasonably common, in particular, through the granite outcrops of the great dividing range. • Taz
    by Krys Bailey

    US$5.65–US$129.20

Not to be outdone by some of the beautiful animals who have had their photos posted here on RB by their pets (yes you did read that correctly), allow me to introduce the funniest bunny on the planet – Taz. Taz is my five year old, supposed-to-be-a-Lionhead, but he didn’t quite work out properly. People often ask what the heck he is, and who can blame them, but he is the smartest and most loving housebunny anyone could wish for. His fur grows rapidly and continuously so I have to give him a “hare-cut” every few weeks so he can actually see his beautiful girlfriend bunny, Savanna. Taz’s hobbies are imitating a Tribble, mugging me for all the treats he can get and caravanning. Yes indeed, when we go away with the caravan for weekends in Merrie Olde England, the bunnies come too – they have their own bun-run which we place on the grass so they can get a taste of the local bunny fare! N.B. The wild bunnies, which are commonly found on such campsites, tend to treat them with disdain! I can’t imagine why! ;o) Savanna, the girlfriend. /

Juvenile female Amur Leopard (panthera pardus orientalis) “Kiska”, born and bred at Marwell Wildlife, Hampshire, England. There are only an estimated 35 of these beautiful cats in the wild. Fortunately many zoos are keeping and breeding these critters to prevent them from extinction. I feel privileged that these guys live just down the road from me! ;o) Canon EOS 50D with Canon EF 400mm L f.5.6 lens handheld
