The Japanese writing is suppose to mean “Big Fat Robot”. However, my translation skills are extremely rusty, so for all those Nipponphiles out there, please tell me if my hanes and ten tens are where they should be. Actually, I don’t mind if it’s horribly wrong, afterall there is a huge market in Japan for meaningless English phrases (go to http://www.engrish.com/ for many hilarious examples). So it should work the other way with equally amusing results. In fact, I remember seeing a GI type wandering around Roppongi with a tshirt written in Japanese kanji, it said “baka gaijin” (idiot foreigner). Not sure if it was an ironic statement on his behalf, or he just thought the letters looked pretty.

There was a time once when I decided to take a break from the brush and do some illustrations. / This was the result of one such session.. “The Fat Duck Cafe”. I put the names of several famous old jazz clubs on his guitar case and even included one that is out of place but a few of you might know (The Gov and The Basement). - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - - - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - -

Talk about a backhanded compliment. Some women just get caught up in the moment and say the wrong thing. / / The background pattern in this illustration was created by me – zoom in to check out the flourishes in the detail. I borrowed the colour scheme from livid from colourlovers.com. / / PS It’s ok to comment on this! I’m not sensitive about the fat issue, nor do I think anyone should be! / / If you like this, check out Things you should never say #2 / / / And for something completely different, check out Things you should say every day #1 / / / / / / This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-No Derivative Works 2.5 Australia License

Tis only a few weeks until I move to Melbourne, so I thought I’d get my big, sheet-metalled guy to do some reconnaissance before I landed. Unfortunately, in true gigantic robot fashion, he decided to destroy the picturesque cityscape of the footy city. Apparently it will be rebuilt and ready for when I alight. In 3 background colours … RED, GREEN and BLUE!

There is only a 5 percent mark-up on this one. I encourage everyone to “f*ckin’ love” themselves a t-shirt with Ronald holding whomever is across and slightly to the right of you at gunpoint.

Beach Ballet is from an original painting by Karin Taylor, from the ‘Beach Series’ and ‘Friends Series’ This is a mixed media production on canvas textured paper. Most of my work involves the use of ink, pastel, charcoal and acrylics, and Beach Ballet was created using all these mediums.

Now for something completely different. An oldie but a goldie from the analouge vaults of a mama swimming in a rock pool down Coogee way. This is a straight b/w film capture with no tricky stuff done to it. It is as it was when I snapped it. I’ve always been taken with this matronly look possibly because I’ve always been a bit on the bony side but maybe because the woman in this picture looks like a mama. I love her to bits.

A few years ago I taught little kids in Japan. One activity they loved was “colouring-in time-o” (practically every Japanese word ends with a vowel). Every week I’d draw a variety of monsters and robots for them to colour in. This little fella is a more fleshed out version of my simple line drawings. As a footnote, one of my students entered theirs into a national colouring in competition (how cool is that! a NATIONAL colouring in comp), and came pretty close to winning. After this exposure, it was used (and maybe still is used) by hundreds of elementary schools all over Japan.

/ / Shoes available at zazzle ‘Matryoshka Series’ Card by Karin Taylor Matryoshka on Holiday Purple & Single, is a mixed media production on canvas textured paper using ink, pastel, charcoal and acrylic paint. I would describe it as having strong design aspects. Matryoshka on Hols was born from my passion for vintage wooden dolls…I thought how cute it would be to dress her in some holiday gear, especially since Russia is usually a very cold place from what I hear…it’s nice to give her a break in a nice warm sunny climate such as Australia :D and and I’ve taken the liberty of giving her a bit of gypsy flair! Maybe she’ll like Australia and decide to stay here? / Maybe she’ll like wearing this bikini and buy some more in different colours? / Maybe she’ll pop up again somewhere when you least expect it, in a vivid array of daring colours! / or…maybe she’ll go home to Russia and we’ll see her in some traditional dress sometime? We’ll just have to wait n see! She could pop up anywhere, any time hehe
