The Sun now rose upon the right : / Out of the sea came he, / Still hid in mist, and on the left / Went down into the sea Okay I know this is not an albatross, nor did I shoot it with a bow and arrow (just my camera!) but the arctic tern is a true ocean-going traveller. / Our paths crossed so briefly and shortly his travels will take him to the southern oceans whilst I venture as far as the shops… Thanks for taking a peep. / Richard
Taken on the Farne Islands.
Taken at the Farne Islands England as the bird was flying out to sea for a days fishing.
Taken at the Farne Islands, Northumberland. / This puffin had just lost its eels to the maurauding gulls on the island and was heading back out to see to get some more.

Camera: Lumix DMC_FZ7 F4.5 Shutter Speed: 1/125 sec. This shag was sat right next to the path on one of the Farne Islands. It allowed people to come as close they liked to it without seeming to be at all bothered by the cameras including mine that were being stuck into its face.
Longstone Island / Farne Islands (North Sea) / Northumberland / England This pic is my one claim to fame. / I entered it into a national competition last year.(My 1st ever competition) / it was voted 3rd out of over 3000 entrants. / That is what inspired my to start showing my work WINNER of Lighthouses of the world Challenge in “GOING COASTAL” group / WINNER of Still bodies of water challenge in “Mood & Ambience” group

The Longstone Lighthouse situated on the Farne Islands, Northumberland, is most famous for the exploits of Grace Darling. In September 1838 the steamer Forfarshire ran aground about a mile from the lighthouse. Over forty people were drowned and survivors clung to the wreck as it stuck fast on the rocks. At daybreak William Darling, the lighthouse keeper, was persuaded by his daughter, Grace, to attempt a rescue using the small lighthouse boat. With Grace helping in the frail open boat they reached the wreck and brought back four men and a woman and later a further four survivors.
Taken on the Farne Islands, photographing puffins can certainly become addictive!
This is a common occurrence at the nesting sites of Puffins, a scavenging Black headed Gull employs intimidation to a Puffin with sand eels as it tries to find its nest to feed its young.
Taken on the Farne Islands, this effect isn’t produced in Photoshop or by some other plugin. It was produced totally in camera using DoF.
This is a hand-stitched pano type image made from four sequenced images of a puffin preening itself after coming back in from fishing. Yes, I realise that it’s breaking the normal “Three” rule but I don’t give a damn, that’s what rules are made for! :-)) / Best viewed at Large Size
Puffins are any of three auk species (or alcids) in the bird genus Fratercula (Latin: little brother — probably a reference to their black and white plumage, which resembles monastic robes) with a brightly coloured beak in the breeding season. These are pelagic seabirds that feed primarily by diving in the water. They breed in large colonies on coastal cliffs or offshore islands, nesting in crevices among rocks or in burrows in the soil. All puffin species have large beaks. They shed the colourful outer parts of their bills after the breeding season, leaving a smaller and duller beak. Their short wings are adapted for swimming with a flying technique under water. In the air, they beat their wings rapidly (up to 400 times per minute) in swift flight, often flying low over the ocean’s surface. Similarities in body shape and colour between puffins and penguins are due to convergent evolution.
Puffin, just emerging from it’s burrow and checking out for gulls. The blur around the Puffin is done entirely in-camera by getting the distance to the subject and the DoF correct. EOS 20D, Sigma 50-500mm,
This impressive castle sits on a basalt outcrop overlooking the Farne Islands and Lindisfarne on the heritage coast in North Northumberland. This is exactly how it was, this image has not been manipulated or had saturation added, in fact the reverse, I actually desaturated it by about 25%.
