  • The Farm is a scenic view of one of the many farms on the rural outskirts of Canberra. Behind the scenes / Often, images are born of hard work, careful planning and a lot of patience. Sometimes though, a wonderful scene will appear by chance. It was late in the day when a storm front came over forming some striking cloud formations over the pale brown landscape. The subdued light and limited colours made for a scene similar to a pastel painting. / Canon 1Ds mkIII | EF 100-400mm Artwork / The soft pastel tones and simple composition of this work make it a fantastic addition to your decor. Let The Farm be a window into a peaceful landscape as a framed print or enjoy its’ simple beauty as a canvas. © 2008 A Spence. All Rights Reserved

  • Shot this morning, a 3 bracket HDR image, output through Photoshop and Photomatix. As I said I was moving out to the country, and the photo-opps are numerous! :) I have always found scenes like this in rural America almost iconic in a sense, the ever enduring struggle of the American Farmer vs Government and big Corporate America. When I saw this I just stopped dead in my tracks, what you don’t see is the ranch house which was built about 30 years ago all boarded up….just sitting there….it really is just sad, seeing these open fields go to waste, the barn empty, with rusty farm equipment, harking back to when a family made an honest living off the land and the crops they raised. Part of America forever lost, part of a families tradition gone, forever. So goes life at times on the Eastern Plains of Colorado….... Thoughts welcomed ..the song below simply says it all…... —-—-—-—-—-—-—— See more on my website jdebordphoto.com All artwork is © John De Bord, All Rights Reserved. • This pair come from the classic fable from Aesop: The country mouse had a visit from his cousin from the big city, who was very dismissive of the simple country life. “Come stay with me in the city and see how well you can really live!” the city mouse said. So the country mouse went with him to the fine townhouse where rare delicacies were served on silver platters. Just when the country mouse was thinking that his cousin had the right way of it, the homeowner’s dogs came charging into the room and the mice had to run for their lives. Realizing that the constant terror was the price his cousin paid to live in the lap of luxury, the country mouse ran all the way back to his humble but peaceful country home. This image is one of many story images of birds and animals featured in my calendar Legendary Tales: Myths and Legends Ink drawing with digital color.

  • It was a wrong turn down a dirt road, you had a bad feeling as you traveled down it..no houses in sight, finally you come across a old rickety building, you have to stop because you are so lost. / As you walk up to the door you can feel someone watching you, everything in you is screaming turn around..RUN..you climb the stairs and knock..a bit of relief settles in when no one answers, as you turn around to head back to your car, the door flies open behind you and you are thrown into a living hell. • I grew these pumpkins and set the up on an old antique dresser I picked up at a local antique auction store. Wanting to create that homegrown country atmosphere I painted and included a market sign. Previous to this painting I painted two other large produce paintings (see below) The first a commission and the second won a first prize and consequently is now part of the Mont De Lancy art collection. It was a miracle that I completed the first one as my late husband decided to cook one of the pumpkins during the course of the painting. When I noticed the little orange pumpkin missing I was horrified. He cheekily remarked that he thought I could just make it up. I admired his confidence in me but I knew better. Fortunately I did complete the painting. / A good reference is imperative to me when it comes to a traditional representational painting. I have always loved the shape of pumpkins and these where no exception. *Prints of an oil painting of home grown pumpkin on an old antique dresser.
