  • Now, here is a good story….I was out photographing some old buildings on a rustic Norwegian farm one sunny spring morning and my eye caught these old wool long johns flying in the wind on the clothesline. I stopped in my tracks…fascinated by the sight. All I could think of was how they looked like they were dancing with joy – happy to finally be set free out in the fresh spring air. It took me a lot of convincing to talk the elderly farm wife into letting me take this shot. She was horrified at the thought, but graciously accepted my creative eccentricity in the end, shaking her head and mumbling all the while. .....They look like they are on a backdrop, but that is the blue sky…..really!

  • These beautiful pear trees bloomed in our backyard every spring when we lived on the little farm near Monroe, Wisconsin. Rendered in pastels, they turned out to be a perfect subject! This painting was awarded a “State Exhibit Award” on February 16, 2008, in the Wisconsin Regional Artists Association Program, which means it is eligible for the state competition in Fall 2008. Of all my recent artwork, this is the one of which I am most proud!

  • Featured in Neighborhoods April 18, 2009. / Featured in Dilapidated Buildings March 23, 2009. BEST VIEWED FULL SIZE! Took the long way home from the grocery store again yesterday evening and went by this lovely old barn. As the shadows grew long, I noticed the light was doing that magical thing it sometimes does. So glad I had my camera!!! Image taken on March 7, 2009 with the Nikon D40x and the 18-200mm vr Nikon lens. Shutter 1/640, aperture f/5.3, exposure -0.33, iso 400. Post processing included removal of some power lines in Photoshop and a trip to Photomatix.

Best Viewed Full Size Our rural heritage of small family-owned farms is teetering on the edge of extinction, so they tell us, and as I drive the haunts of my childhood the visions of what were commonplace years back are slowly falling into disuse and disrepair, or worse, being replaced by subdivisions. It’s always a joy to discover another one … no matter what condition it’s in. Image take in Davidsonville, Maryland on May 21, 2009 with the Nikon D40x and the 18-200mm vr Nikon/Nikkor lens with the cp filter. Post processing lncluded hdr from a single hand-held image at +/- 2 eval, no tripod. Sky darkened in Photoshop.

Much Better Full Size! I love it when the titles I think up can work as double entendres. In this case this gorgeous empty barn … and the farm itself, I guess … do seem to be Finished … cloned off to the left rear is a housing development. It could also refer to the job of plowing and seeding … which, unless these are weeds (are they?) is Finished. But the title also refers to the fact that I’ve mucked around with this shot so much … and it has so many names in my computer (I tend to try to include what processes I used on a shot in its name) ... that last night when I did this version, the only thing I put to the end of the loooooong image name … was … “Finished.” And so, it stuck!! Original image taken just up the road from our house on April 6 of ‘09 in Montgomery County, Maryland, with the Nikon D40x and the 18-200mm vr Nikon/Nikkor lens. Photoshop cloning out of distractions and 2 duplicates created, Photomatix HDR from a single, hand-held image, dups at -/+2 eval, Photoshop for the addition of a texture, then into Paint for some blending.

  • This was taken after a heavey spring shower. The rainbow was fading away quickly, but I managed to get this.

  • The title is a line from William Blake’s poem, ” The book of Thel” and seemed to fit this scene from rural Yorkshire at the turn of summer into autumn, where the harvest roles on and the cattle feed on small fields left to grass. Taken near the village of South Dalton While the clouds roll on and dance their dance of space with the wind as their partner. Converted in to pinhole black and white Best viewed large This shot was taken a few moments after this shot

  • Best on Full Size As we leave the top of Blue Knob mountain heading toward Claysburg my eye is always taken by this beautiful farm between Pavia and Claysburg on State Forest Highway (3003). On this particular day, May 23, 2009, the clouds were outdoing themselves. Had to pull over and get this snap. I got a kick out of all the poofy dandelions happily propagating away in the foreground and trying to compete with the poofy clouds!! Taken with the Nikon D40x with the 18-200mm vr Nikon lens at 1/320 shutter and f/5.6 aperture. Exposure was set at minus .33 and iso was 200. Post processing included hdr from a single hand-held image duplicated twice to an eval of +/- 2 then run through Photomatix. Gave the old clone tool a workout as this beautiful scene is marred by a giant telephone pole and lots and lots of wires!!!
