  • This crafty cow threaded its long horns through the barbed wire fence, got down on its knees, and munched the grass just outside its normal reach. Aren’t we a lot like that? Going through all sorts of trouble to grab “something better” when everything we need is usually right under our feet! / P.S. In case you’re wondering, I did watch as the process reversed itself and the bovine wonder gingerly manuevered its head and massive horns back through the wires, straightened its knees, and returned to home base without a hitch.

  • Red tractor hiding in the middle of a corn field.

  • Old barn with the American flag.

  • Old dilapidated barn with rustic red doors. This old barn will be torn down sometime this month. Someone in the neighborhood complained that it was an “eye sore”.... so sad! Image was redone for me in HDR by Kimberly Palmer.

  • Another version of the old farm barn.

  • this is how i started my drive home last sunday morning. / i left with the temps in west virigina at 22 degrees (F). / the elevationfor the state, averages in the 3300foot range and stays below 5000feet. / one of the two lane highways went just high enough to get a view over the mountains and into the fields below. so stopping on the highway to capture this was a must! / i shot this in SS priority, SS at 1/160, F-stop at 32, ISO of 400, and exposure compensation at +0.3, focal length of 47mm

  • instead of doing the usual smoky mountain autumn shot, figured it’s time to show off what millions that pass thru this area dont get to see as they head into the park. / this is along the backroads of my home town of townsend tn. / i am so glad this area hasnt been ruined as the gatlinburg, pigeon forge and seiverville side with many rental cabins, hotels, so many resturants you’re no longer hungry trying to decide where to eat, and all the commercialism that is on that side. / this is what the smoky mountains are all about. a peaceful and beautiful life, blending into the enviroment instead of ruining it. going to the local mom and pop resturant instead of supporting chains that are all around the world. / there is a hidden beauty in this area, and to see it, one must have a open mind and open eyes. i shot this in SS priority ( i always shoot in SS priority) at 1/125, F-stop at 11, ISO at 100, and exposure comp at -0.03, focus at 38mm

  • If you saw my posting called “Darkness and Light” a few days ago, this is the storm when it really intensified and touched down on a farm in Eastern Ontario, Canada, between Chesterville and Manotick. We parked the car and took pictures as it was moving fast and we were able to get some nice shots in between the rain and gusts of high wind. I’ve posted several other shots of the same storm recently. This one came up very suddenly out of what was a nice fine early evening. The speed it developed was quite amazing. / Sony DSCF828 camera, November 2, 2006. • New American Landscape Gargoyles ugly, dark, and looming; / Overlook the erstwhile blooming landscape, / desolate now, but fresh in memory. Giants in the garden Eden. Gothic, no, Americana, barely eaten; / Taken by surprise and sorely beaten shed / no tear, for fear of giants. Giants in the garden Eden. Whilst whole countries stand by watching; / Giants o’er their landscape trodding, claiming / grain and livestock pools from nature. Giants shade the garden Eden. A single voice wails mad with fury; / Counts backwards, bent, and bleary-eyed; / And yells, “You don’t own nature”! Giants left the garden Eden. / - F.A. • © Simone Byrne Photography, 2007. All Rights Reserved. 29th November 2007 Tree Graveyard at sunset, Redesdale. What is Bipolar? Bipolar Disorder is a medical illness that causes severe mood swings which are caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. People who suffer from this illness lack the control mechanism that enables them to pull away from emotional situations and as such their lives may spiral out of control, through no fault of their own. The illness is very serious and very real and affects not only the sufferer, but their friends and family as well. There is still a lot of stigma attached to this disease, given that it is a mental illness to which very little is known about. It is incurable, but can be controlled by diet and medication. Most bipolar types are brilliant, creative, inspiring, loving, generous and caring individuals who contribute to making the world a better place, but all the while they themselves struggle every day to survive.
