So, first journal entry while my girlfriend is entertained by my mom. If you live in Guatemala City, you might have heard of a fanzine called ZUM. It’s the creative child of a graphic designer, a musician and a writer (me!). The musician called me yesterday, and the good news is we’re in the running for a chance to get a grant, so we can start production on Issue No. 2 We’ll know in exactly 2 weeks. Fingers crossed.

Just a heads up to any fellow comic book lovers, I am doing a column for a website (the most recent one is at http://comicattack.net/2009/09/ink-stains-2-squa-tront-2/ , with the main site being comicattack.net) on the fanzines of the 60s-80s. Many of the pros of today started in these home made magazines. Check it out if you want, and please leave a comment if you do! The most current one is one that covered EC comics a lot, with lots of unpublished sketches, interviews, etc. I provide a link to a downloadable pdf of the whole zine!
Jim Steranko! Barry Smith! Dave Cockrum! These and many other artists, in their formative years, examined in my column, Ink Stains.
