Announcing FW Contest #5 http://www.redbubble.com/faerie-world/forums/1229/topics/18763-competition-5-faerie-self-portrait Hello Faerie World Members- This month’s contest is a Fairie Self Portrait. The Brief: Create an image of a faerie that looks like you, and/or that represents you. You must include a description of how/why this faerie represents you. You can include eliments in your faeries environment to help portray yourself to the fullest. In this contest creativity really counts, not just in your artwork, but in how you approach the portrait and how you describe it. Unfortunately, photography will not be allowed in this one. After all, it’s much easier to take a picture of yourself than to draw or paint or create a 3D image. Just to clarify – when I say “and/or represents you” what I mean is, the physical particulars of the faerie to don’t have to be an exact likeness of you, but regardless of the physical side, the faerie should represent who you are as a person, your life, etc. Hope that makes sense – please feel free to ask if it’s not clear. You will have until 10 pm EST (US – GMT -5) on July 31 to submit your entry. You must tag your entry with FWSELF Your entry must adhere to all the group guidelines And again, you must include a description of how and why this faerie represents you. Otherwise – anything goes! Make it dark, make it whimsical, male, female, simple, elegant, whatever you feel. You may enter either a piece of art or a t-shirt. Whichever you feel showcases your work best. I was so touched by the end result that I just cried and gasped for air. She has painted so many portraits and done so many wonderful things for people that I wanted my friends to know that she painted this for me in gratitude for the portrait I rendered of her. Many of you might remember this collaboration work with Lily Munroe , who wrote a marvelous story , inspired by my image Anna’s Eternal Sorrow . / Lily has kindly offered to submit our work (both story and image) to her local newspaper in Australia for publication. It worked! The Springbrook Voices has accepted to publish the collaboration work in two chapters. The first part was recently published in the March 09 to May 09 edition, and the second part will appear in the next one, in May. Many thanks to Lily for taking care of everything, and kindly sending me a copy! This is me below, dressed as Anna, which in fact is my wedding dress (yesssss, it still fits me!), and holding my copy of the newspaper in order to show the published story. Intro: Many times, when I’m creating my artwork, ideas come to me in the form of stories. I began this series in late 2007 which will eventually be made into a book. I hope you enjoy this little side trip to Appletree Hollow. THE DISCOVERY OF APPLETREE HOLLOW / (a fictional story created for a series of paintings) / ALL IMAGES and TEXT are Copyright © 2008 Linda Apple “Secret Diaries of AppleTree Hollow” / Discovery: / I will attempt to give you a very brief summary of my remarkable discovery. I recently acquired, in a family inheritance, a very remote piece of property,nestled in the hills of southern Ohio, now known as Appletree Hollow. The 180 acres(approx.) is covered in thick woods that hold deep ravines, several creeks and numerous glacial rock formations. I have been unable to find any recorded data on this property; it is as though it has never existed, and yet here it is. / During my first brief inspection of the property,scattered in various locations, I found pieces of shaped timber, worked stone and even handmade brick, which led me to believe that there might have been numerous structures or even a small village of some sort. This idea proved to be more evident when I discovered over an acre of cleared land, near the center, that held the remains of what appeared to be foundations of small structures and walkways. Further away I found a substantially solid log cabin with a spring house built over a nearby stream. Under this spring house, buried in a small stone casket, is where I discovered the collection of albums & diaries. / I am sure that these diaries and images are the last remaining evidence of my family history and proof of the existence of Appletree Hollow and its amazing inhabitants. / This has stirred my childhood memories of old family whisperings and stories (which is the way of the hill folk) that didn’t make much sense at the time, so I never gave them much thought until now. / I have been hesitant to reveal this information, as it is so unbelievable, but I finally decided that it is time to expose the true nature of Appletree Hollow. / My family tree is not all sweet and roses, so I will refrain from giving their elaborate personal details at this time,as you might find them a bit shocking. Besides, I am sure my ancestors would think that I am releasing the “skeletons from the closet”, of which is simply not done in Appalachia. / Here are a few of the inhabitants of Appletree Hollow that have made their way to RB.
