FRUITION OF THE SEEDS OF VIOLENCE / OIL / $1400 US (ORIGINAL 14” X 18”) / SIGNED DEDICATED PRINTS AVAILABLE The Creator Breath has spoken to me in deep repose and has whispered in my ear that my thoughts are like seeds. Which thoughts I water will bear fruit. And what fruit I bear will either be sweet or sour, good or bad depending on which tree I water. When I was young I met an old Indian man whose wisdom was as deep as the ocean. I asked him how to travel the right road? How to know what to do? And how to be a good man? The wise elder said, ” I have two dogs who live inside of me. One who is good and one who is bad. These two dogs constantly fight with each other. Each trying to win my thoughts, my heart and my soul”. I was astonished by his simple words and then I asked him the all important question, “Which one wins?” He paused and thought for a moment and then said, “The dog I feed.” visionary imagist “Joey”

First Artwork I have done for quite a while, hope you like it :-) “There is a Native American legend that says, ” If you have a secret wish, capture a butterfly and whisper your wish to it. Since butterflies cannot speak, your secret is ever safe in their keeping. Release the butterfly, and it will carry your wish to the Great Spirit, who alone knows the thoughts of butterflies. By setting the butterfly free, you are helping to restore the balance of nature, and your wish will surely be granted.” The butterfly is a powerful symbol for transformation. It leaves the safety of the cocoon in it’s new form. This is an excellent image for anyone contemplating, or in the midst of a major change. A butterfly is a strong symbol of metamorphosis, with distinct stages. The butterfly is a reminder to make changes when the opportunity arises. Change and transformation are inevitable for us all, but it does not have to be traumatic.Butterfly symbolism is also closely tied to the idea of spirits and souls. It has been used in many religions and cultures. Psyche is the Greek word for both soul and butterfly. The belief was that butterflies were human souls searching for a new reincarnation, which gave the creature uncanny and sometimes ominous connotations. This symbolism was also used in early Christianity as a symbol of the soul. Celts thought that women became pregnant by swallowing butterfly souls. These butterfly-souls flew about seeking a new mother.” info from http://kc.8m.com/bflysym.html

Original Background Photo / It took me about 3 hours to figure out what to do with the original shot, and another 3 to complete it. I had to improvise with with brushes (i.e – the mermaid’s tail is two plant leaves worked together), but I think it turned out OK. Based on a story I wrote a few years ago about a mermaid being the guardian of dawn. / / Foliage brushes created by me from photos I’ve taken.

For this work I wanted to paint a kitten with a little fantasy flair, rather than just a common image of a kitten sitting in a basket. I did this work completely in Photoshop. I looked at many pictures of kittens for reference before working on this because I hadn’t painted many animals before.

My hobby is playing with 3d programs that allow you to create images for rendering. I have only been doing this for about 18 months and still have lots to learn. This image was totally created using Daz Studio and content created for Daz and Poser. With this image I was playing with reflections and use of colour.

I HAVE BECOME DEATH DESTROYER OF WORLDS / OIL ON STRETCHED CANVAS / $900 US (14” X 18” ORIGINAL) / SIGNED DEDICATED PRINTS AVAILABLE In the eleventh chapter of the Bhagavad Gita Krishna displays for Arjuna a terrible ferocity. “I have become death, destroyer of worlds”. These words were uttered by J. Robert Oppenheimer, the father of the atomic bomb, when first he laid his gaze upon what he had help create. I pray that the better angels of men have laid to rest this atomic Genie. We, as a species, are the only species that can truly alter life on this planet. Our prowess gives us much hope and expectations that we use wisely the gift of reason and intellect. But vigilance must be our guidepost. Never allowing a wayward few to pirate these hopes and aspirations. We cannot afford to dismantle in the fireball flash of a moment all the past good deeds of humanity. As an artist I have very little influence on the world. Except that I do have my paints, my brushes and my canvasses to do with what I want. I reflect on the artists that have gone before me and their influence on the world. Goya’s, “The Third of May 1808” or Picasso’s “Guernica” come to mind. It sometimes falls upon the shoulders of artists to comment and to illustrate what message they have received from their Muse. I am reminded of Virgil’s “Aeneid” where he speaks “O, Muse! The cause and the crimes relate; What goddess was provoked, and whence her hate”. So, I am not alone. Why paint scenes such as these? I wish not. I prefer light, magical and visionary themes but when the Muse demands that I paint such omens I must pay my debt to Her. It is Her fee that she demands payment of from me, if I wish to continue being an artist. visionary imagist “Joey”

ALLERGIC REACTION / OIL / 1800 US (ORIGINAL 14” X 18”) / SIGNED DEDICATED PRINTS AVAILABLE When is too much, too much? Can too much of a “good thing” be bad? I remember an early childhood memory, when I was very, very young, I loved chocolate covered cherries. They were my favorite. These chocolate delicacies were not readily available to this young person. These sweet treasures were found usually on special occasions, such as Christmas or some other special holiday. But one day my Grandfather gave me a whole box of these succulent candies. I was, to say the very least, quite pleased and happy to have all of these delicious treats for myself. It was as if I had found the hidden treasures of the tomb of Tutankhamen or a treasure trove of some lost Incan gold. I was entering the gateway to a chocolate Shangri La. I had in my possession the very ticket to a savory delectable vacation from the ordinary candies that I was familiar with. Now with these mouth-watering confections in my hands I was ready to go and eat to my heart’s content all of these chocolate treats. I secretly removed myself, along with my booty, from my “adult probation officers”, who called themselves my parents, and proceeded to the secluded lair of my bedroom. Here, in this private confidential room, I could proceed unhindered to consume all of the wonderful candied gems that I had been given possession of by my generous Grandfather. I ate them all immediately, one by luscious one, till I had filled my tiny little stomach to the point of bursting at the seams. Which, unfortunately, I must report happened convulsively and instantaneously. Such was my glutinous fate. I was learning my lesson the “hard way”, as my Mother would say. Now, many years have passed since that fateful instructive day. I have witnessed many an “allergic” reaction when I wrongfully assumed that what I have isn’t enough. The pursuit of the superfluous, no matter what it is, leads me down the path where the outrageous stings of possessiveness dwell. The obsessive “buzzing” noise of the appeal to acquire more and more can deafen the true voice of my “better” angels and weaken my resolve to live within my means. The swelling of my misdirected wants will only lead me to another convulsive and instantaneous eruption of what my Mother once called “learning the hard way”. Now, I still enjoy eating chocolate covered cherries. That fact remains the same. The difference now is that I don’t need to eat them all at once. I save some for another day. I have learned that life is not a sprint race but rather a marathon. I found it extremely valuable and necessary to learn the value of pacing oneself in this competition called Life. It is true that “Less is More”. visionary imagist “Joey”
