  / On 30 Jan.,06, their Royal Highnesses, the Prince of Orange and Princess Maxima of the Netherlands, in the company of his aunt, Princess Margriet of the Netherlands and her husband, Professor Pieter van Vollenhoven, as well as the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, His Excellency Dr Jan Peter Balkenende (Unkindly known as ‘Harry Potter’, by many Dutch people, at the time,) as well as the Minister for Foreign Affairs, of Australia, the Honourable Alexander Downer MP, had the pleasure of seeing photos of me, on page 14, of the Official Programme, for the Royal Gala Dinner, to mark the 400th Anniversary of of the arrival of Dutch people, on the shores of Australia. / At the time, I had arrived only 50 years earlier, on the shores of Australia. / / Yes. That’s me, on my Dads moped, in Gouda; and later, on my bike, in Matraville; on Bondi Beach, with a redhead; and beside my first VW. / / Unfortunately, the first photo, used at the bottom of page 14, was trimmed and does not show my parents and I, waving farewell to our relatives as we walked up the gangway to the migrant ship, the Johan van Oldenbarnevelt. / / The little photo in the middle, shows us, boarding the little bus, with all our relatives, to go to Amsterdam, where I said a final goodbye to my best friend, Piet (pronounced Pete) and best girlfriend, Ria (pronounced Reeyah). / Earlier, I had taken leave of the kids in my street, / / / as well as at school (6th class). / It was all smiles, – still – when we waved goodbye, from the deck, as well. / The the ship started to move and the relatives got back on the bus and raced the J.v.O., to the Port of IJmuiden. To wave to us, one more time, as the ship entered the lock and the water was raised, level with that of the North Sea. / / Another lot of waving and then the two women (my mother and Mrs van Hoorn. We migrated, together with her, her husband, and her young daughter, 6) / noticed that my best friend put his arm up, to hide his face and the tears and that did it. / Now there were also two women crying and later my mother would often say it was then when she realised: “What have we done? These two boys may never see each other again.” / (We did, 13 years later.) / After the Gulf of Biscaye, the stomach settled down reasonably well and visiting Port Said and going through the Suez Canal was interesting. In the Indian Ocean the ship heaved too much, along with my stomach and the ritual of going down to the dining room was not pleasant. / Speaking of food, via the internet, I noticed that quite a few Dutch people were not impressed by how much was on the menu, for the royal couple and other attendees of the gala dinner. Their reaction was: All that food, when others, in the country may have so very little. / / But Prime Ministers Howard and Balkenende were impressed! / / I hope they liked the look of the program booklet as well as some of the other items there, representing the 400 year relations. / The booklet was produced by an Australian, working in The Hague, Ben Zane, with whom, we discovered, I had this link: His father had been just as frequently on Maroubra Beach, as I had been. His father was a member of the Surf Life Saving Club, though. I only used to just read books on the beach and listen to John Laws and Bob Rogers presenting the latest pop-tunes, via the radio and the beach p.a. system, or sometimes, meet up with fellow-Maroubra Bay High School students. / / Unlike those Dutch explorers, 400 years ago, we stayed in Australia. First being taken to Bonegilla Migrant Camp and then via Scheyville -, Villawood – and Matraville Hostels, before settling with the other family, in an old house. / While in Matraville Hostel, we were sent on a holiday to a former migrant hostel, in Nelson Bay. From there I wrote an _Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh _ – letter. But that’s another story. :) /

  Location: Wisconsin State Capitol; Madison, WI Yes, it is who you think it is. Bill Clinton and Al Gore held a political rally at the State Capitol just before the 1992 election that was attended by thousands. When it was over, I was prevented from crossing the street by security (aka Secret Service) to get to the bus stop. As I waited, I could hear the crown getting excited; lo and behold, there was Bill and Al coming down the walk, shaking hands. How close did I get? Close enough that my camera wouldn’t focus for most shots. Close enough that when Bill reached over my head to shake hands with someone behind me, my nose was in the armpit of a future President. It was an exciting moment in my life. By the way, the shot I got of Al Gore was horrible. He’s not very photogenic.

  I wish that i had dealt with so many issues as decisively in my life…..this one goaded me in the worst way…..it was a travesty not only of our sensibilities but of our integrity as artists…There are plenty of sites to exhibit “garbage”. The web is replete with them – BUT THIS AIN”T IT! I treasure of all things the wonderful folks that I have engendered a comradery with ….we do not need to be daunted by having to compete with those who desire to market such for featured positions. So far to my knowledge , I have been placed four times as a group’s featured “artisan” and feel immense esteem because of such a placement….To find my work displayed on the front pages that appear to a world where the sun “never sets” at a particular moment where for a brief interval of time, it has its billet of “fame”.....would shoot me through the roof with “faerie dust”.....to such decadence as that being touted….......need I say no more!

Did you know that the t shirt design for Disarm has a nifty white bit so if you do happen to meet me or Ivana you could politely ask us to autograph it. then do the right thing and flog it at Fraser’s Autographs! But thats the bottom feeder of the pack. You want the ace don’t you?! Did you know that I am selling the original of Disarm in a quant flowershop in little ol’ Paddington! Alan Bond was a smart man to have obtained Van Gogh’s “Iris’s” as his investment back in 1988. Who would have known that would be a ticket in his “get out of jail” card?! But he did and at a great price! It was in the “before they were enormous” stage of the painter’s mojo. Same now is happening with Vintage guitars. Here’s a tip, the stuff looks great on t shirts, but the original’s a whole lot better! DL. / X

  when i see wounderfully powerful photo’s such as jo’s . i sit back and think…did the photos we did evocate a responce, question/questioning and did they clearly convey a message / all listed below are on our home page www.redbubble.com/people/earhertchappel / “grey fetal pain” / this piece grey was to mean not clear as black and white / fetal was for baby /fetus / pain was for the loss / so what i was trying to say with this photo, is that a miscarriage / an abortion of the fetus was extremely painful.and that sometimes there are no clear cut answers why with a miscarriage, and how some women made a decision not to carry out their pregnancy, and that in most that i have spoken with the “why” factor in adulthood has them question the what if, and the pain a woman feels from the loss of her baby. “lilith with immortality and knowledge” / it is said that lilith in part snake like form tempted eve, to take from the tree an apple. / lilith had a choice the tree of knowledge and the tree of life.”knowledge” would give eve and adam the knowledge here are a few examples of knowledge good, evil, shame, / lilith could have temped eve with the fruit from the tree of life, but in doing so, they would become immortal. “the sin eve passed on” / from then till know we think of eve, as her actions created original sin. hence the passing of the cross to eve’s shoulders. as now since then have all been born with “original sin” cheers to you health / i edited this photo to not make the model perfect looking, as i was portraying a sin(a yellowing effect as when health issues arise from excess causes our body’s to change) of excess “gluttony” . as every time before this i have seen it done with food. i wanted to portray it different, as one needs food to live, but the intake of alcohol and drugs and cigarettes, are all harmful, yet some do in excess. so i wanted to take something that we did not need to survive on to live, to use in the photo for “gluttony”. “prides heavy vail” / quite simply i was trying to portray pride in this photo as a sin, showing the weight of pride with the head piece /vail. “the price” / simply choosing fame over faith, and i could elaborate for days on this one! “clear” / hands in the cross position to portray ones choice, sin, and sacrifice, for one to place others in front of god.trying to convey the lack in faith and the overwhelming obsession with those they seek out to be more important than god/ faith. “reach” / the position of being cornered, with no way out. with failed attempts of escape. “to shed some light on the idea” / to simply put it, the light bulb represents ideas and as it is high and in her mouth, / and the pride sharing the ideas. but at the same time a small element in thinking hers is above all others. these are just a few of our statement pieces. but i have to really congrats jo, as her, convey the point, of really equivocating her meaning.

  Hello there, well how surprised was I when I received an e-mail saying that a random person had recommended Goylegate on the New York times top ten books… Yep the expression blown away was about apt for a person who simply self-published a children’s book. Apologies for not being around for a while but life, as always, is busy.
