When I saw how the people looked on the bridge I wanted to use this perspective to show how massive the falls are. Multnomah Falls is a waterfall on the Oregon side of the Columbia River Gorge, located east of Troutdale, between Corbett and Dodson, along the Historic Columbia River Highway. The falls drops in two major steps, split into an upper falls of 542 feet (165 m) and a lower falls of 69 feet (21 m), with a gradual 9 foot (3 m) drop in elevation between the two, so the total height of the waterfall is conventionally given as 620 feet (189 m). Multnomah Falls is the tallest waterfall in the State of Oregon. Underground springs from Larch Mountain are the year-round source of water for the waterfall, augmented by spring runoff from the mountain’s snowpack and rainwater during the other seasons. A foot trail leads to Benson Footbridge, a 45-foot (14 m)-long footbridge that allows visitors to cross 105 feet (32 m) above the lower cascade. The trail continues to a platform at the top of the upper falls, the Larch Mountain Lookout, where visitors get a bird’s-eye view of the Columbia Gorge and also of “Little Multnomah”, a small cascade slightly upstream from the “upper” falls, which is not visible from ground level. The footbridge is named after Simon Benson, who had the bridge built in 1914. Benson soon gave Portland land that included most of the falls as well as nearby Wahkeena Falls. The Oregon-Washington Railroad and Navigation Company gave Portland land at the base of Multnomah Falls contingent upon their agreement to build a lodge at the site. A few years later architect A.E. Doyle, who designed the Meier & Frank Building, was commissioned by the city to design the lodge, which was completed in 1925.[citation needed] The lodge is now on the National Register of Historic Places. / In contrast to other falls along the Gorge, the Multnomah area is also reachable via a stretch of I-84 east of Troutdale, Oregon. The rest area and tunnel under the road (as well as the Union Pacific Railroad tracks) allow Interstate travelers from either direction to stop and visit the falls. Origin legend / There is a Native American legend that explains the origins of the falls. In this legend, a tribe was infected with a deadly disease and was in danger of dying. The daughter of the chief went to the top of a cliff and prayed to the Great Spirit to find how she could stop the epidemic. She was told that to stop the epidemic, she would have to throw herself off the cliff and sacrifice herself. She did this and died. The next day, the chief found his daughter’s body at the bottom of the cliff. He wept bitterly and cried out to the Great Spirit to give him a sign if this sacrifice was not in vain. At that moment, water began to fall from the top of the cliff, forming Multnomah Falls. The legend also says that under the right conditions, you can see the daughter’s face in the waterfall.

The closest town to Lake Mountain is called Marysville which is blessed with many nearby waterfalls, one of the most popular is the Taggerty River which has a circuit walk near it named after the Beeches which line part of the walk. The remote and beautiful First Creek, Errinundra Plateau, Gippsland, Victoria, Australia. I got up at 5:30am drove almost 200km much of it over mountain roads, found that the road to the start of the walk was closed so walked 6km to get to the start then walked another 3km through thick bush to get to the top of the falls where the fun really began. On the entire walk in, the sun was blazing and the few shots I took were terrible the contrast being too great to record properly but just as I reached the falls a very thick cloud layer descended offering me as good a lighting condition as is possible for this kind of photography. Below the main falls the country becomes quite steep and I climbed in and out of it until 6:00pm before walking back. I reached the track in last light then walked the 6km back before returning home getting to bed at 1:30am. A tiring but extremely satisfying day. The Delaware Water Gap National Recreation area in northeastern Pennsylvania boasts many beautiful streams and waterfalls. This stream, in the Childs Park Recreation Area above Fulmer Falls happened to catch my eye, captured in full springtime flow.
