Some time back, I visited Newstead Abbey in Notinghamshire. It is the former home of the writer Lord Byron. We had a nice family day out, walking around the grounds and into the designed gardens. I took this shot in the Japanese garden. I had to lay down on the muddy bridge to get this shot and several more like it, but it was worth getting dirty. So much beauty can still be found in a flower that is starting to fade. This black eyed susan immediately caught my eye with all the wonderful autumn colors in its wilting petals. Photo taken in my garden – Prince Edward County, Ontario, Canada. Note: Background was not digitally changed to black – that is the way the photo was taken :) FLORAL GALLERY / ADD RENEE TO YOUR WATCHLIST /

Don’t eat them… haha…. This is growing in my front yard, but I have no idea what kind of tree it is. It has pretty blossoms in the spring though. Enjoy!

I’ve entered the word of layering images and it is SO MUCH FUN! After my first week of practice this is the first creation I felt was worthy of upload to RB. This work of art includes the combination of 2 images – a monarch butterfly, and a black-eyed susan. I enhanced the colors in 3 sections of the monarch’s wing to tie the colors in the composition together and purposely made the butterfly smaller than life. I have entered an entirely new world here and am excited at the possibilities that lie ahead as I search through my extensive collection of images for future works :o) / / Original floral image. / / FLORAL GALLERY / ADD RENEE TO YOUR WATCHLIST

The plant is now grown in many tropical locations both for the extravagant ‘flowers’ and for food. In Malaysia, it is called kantan. The peduncles (stems) of the inflorescence are chopped and added to laksa pots (various curries or soups made with rice noodles). The spectacular inflorescence rises from the rhizome to a height of 60 centimeters (24 inches) to more than a meter (40 inches). The individual flowers will appear from between the pinecone-like scales above the waxy bracts. The leaves grow in ranks from separate stalks along the rhizome. The leafy stalks are evergreen and get 4.5 to 6 meters (15 to 20 feet) tall. Etlingera elatior (Torch Ginger or Ginger Flower) is a species of herbaceous perennial plant. Botanical synonyms include Nicolaia elatior and Phaeomeria speciosa. The showy pink flowers are used in decorative arrangements while the flower buds are an important ingredient in the Nonya dish laksa. In North Sumtara, the flower buds are used for a dish called arsik ikan mas (Andaliman Peppercorn Spiced Carps) It is known in Indonesianas “bunga kecombrang ” or “honje”, Malay as bunga kantan and Thai as kaalaa. In Karo, it is known as asam cekala (asam meaning ‘sour’), and the flower buds, but more importantly the ripe seed pods, which are packed with small black seeds, are an essential ingredient of the Karo version of sayur asam, and are particularly suited to cooking fresh fish.” Information Sources: Etlingera eliator / Plant of the Week

Eve returns to Adam having eaten the forbidden fruit. / Acrylic on canvas. 38×36 in. this picture is a collaboration with fellow bubbler and spiritual brother Jeff Schauss who painted a loose background on canvas so that i could then see what images would appear from the textures. neither of us had any pre-conceptions of what the image should be, and following his advice to pray over the picture and let the spirit lead the work was a breath of fresh air from my usual pre-planned assaults from sketches and notes. and so an image of eden emerged, in that critical interjunction between the fall of eve and the fall of adam, and the changing of humanity forever.
This reminds me of gummy candies.. I think it’s the color. I was also craving gummy candies while editing this. So that explains a lot..hehe.. I took this some time in the fall when these berries were still on the tree in my front yard. Enjoy!
I shot this image just within the hour Sunday, 08/10/08….this is 100% untouched….we have had very few bloom this summer due to all the smoke from the wildfires…...I feel like a kid in a candy store when one actually opens!
