Sitting, waiting for the others in a church in Northern Rwanda, my eyes wandered, taking in the room. To tell the truth I was tired and bored and in need of a day off. Over the other side of the room sat this young man, alone. I’m not sure what he was doing there. Waiting for his Mother maybe? I wondered, should I take a shot? If he saw me it could be really uncomfortable. I mean I was really close and I couldn’t pretend I was photographing anyone else. Anyway I thought, ‘I’ll sneak a shot in.’ So, I raised the camera and started to muck around with the shot. And then he looked up. I cringed behind the lens and just sat there, frozen. He didn’t divert his gaze. For several seconds we stared at each other me on one side of the camera, him on the other. Finally I pressed the shutter. His expression remained exactly the same. I lowered the camera and returned his stare, this time with no mechanical device between us. It sounds corny but something travelled between us. An absolute realisation that we were right there, in the same place at the same time. He didn’t dismiss me or put me down. He stood right on the same level. It was unique.
This shot is one of my favourites because it tells such a story. In the forground is a wallet being held by one of my colleagues Bart. He is buying the basket being held by the Rwandan woman in the middle of the shot. All eyes are on the transaction. This represents life and death in Africa as much as any other portrait. It is positive, but you can also feel the tension, the need, the hope. All proceeds to charity. I might even buy this myself. – Dog photography – Africa photography / - Beach photography - Black & white photography – Dog photography – Africa photography / - Beach photography - Monotone photography

This fractal amazed me as it took on the shape of a sword…I added another fractal to create the golden haze around it and couldn’t help but connect it to the scripture below :-) ‘Above all taking the shield of faith, wherewith you shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. / And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God’ / Ephesians 5:16,17
Sometimes a combination of life events makes you wonder if you can pull through and rise above all that life throws at you. Sometime it all seems so dismal and hopeless. But if you take a deep breath and look around you, you will see the small miracles in your every day….the beauty in a bouquet of dried sunflowers almost shaped like a heart – , the winter light dancing on snow….there is always something to rejoice in. Grab onto those moments and soar above the hopelessness and sorrow that is holding you down. And you will find that you are heading towards a better day. Promise.
Tzadik ( “righteous one;” pl. tzadikim) is a title which is generally given to those who are considered to be righteous such as a spiritual master or rebbe. The root of the word tzadik, is tzedek , which means justice or righteousness. This term thus refers to one who acts righteously. In classic Jewish thought, the true title of tzadik can only be applied to one who not only never sins, but also has eradicated any inclination to do so. The Talmud says that at least 36 Tzadikim Nistarim - anonymous tzadikim - are living among us at all times; they are anonymous, and it is for their sake alone that the world is not destroyed. The Talmud and the Kabbalah offer various ideas about the nature and role of these 36 tzadikim. The image was taken in the Wstern Wall Jerusalem. / Passover April 22 2008.

And the Raven, never flitting, still is sitting, still is sitting / On the pallid bust of Pallas just above my chamber door; / And his eyes have all the seeming of a demon’s that is dreaming, / And the lamplight o’er him streaming throws his shadow on the floor; / And my soul from out that shadow that lies floating on the floor / Shall be lifted – nevermore!
Original is 11”x14” acrylic on canvas – SOLD She is stepping out in faith, walking into peril but with total confidence. As long as she stays strong and continues in prayer, she will be unharmed. This piece is sort of a take on the story of Peter walking out on the water to meet Jesus. When Peter took his eyes off of Christ and looked down, he sank. Due to the recent political battles, it has become clear that people are placing their faith in the wrong places these days. www.bryandrinkscoffee.com

Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. ~Hebrews 11:1 Photomanipulation created in Photoshop CS2 Stock credits: / Background: http://night-fate-stock.deviantart.com/
Abstract acrylic on canvas. Inspired by Hebrews 4:14-16 An invitation from God. We should never feel uncomfortable or find it difficult to approach God. Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet was without sin. Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. /
I just found this old painting that I did years ago. Thought I’d share it. It was accepted into the Art.com “Urban Expressionism Collection” back in 2006. Acrylic on canvas. Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ “The King will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.’ Matthew 25:34-40 / /
