These woods whisper so loudly, and grow with such a brute force unto me, that no matter what, all I can do is to retreat to contemplation… History and facts: / “The Convent of Capuchos of Sintra is one of the many examples of 16th century religious piety in Portugal and became known for the extreme simplicity of its construction. Built on a very small scale with cells and dormitory lined with cork and a chapel whose vault is formed by rock itself. / The Convent followed the principle of universal fraternity and brotherhood of the Franciscan monks. The inhabitants belonged to the Province of Arrábida (South of Lisbon), of the Order of Friars Minor Regular and Observant (Grey Friars). José Ramos

The Cathedral Church of Christ, Sir Giles Gilbert Scott’s masterpiece, is built on St. James’ Mount and is visible from miles around: “a visible witness for God in the midst of the great city”. / . / The decision to build was taken under the leadership of Bishop Francis James Chavasse, second Bishop of Liverpool, in the summer of 1901. / . / After an open competition, a design by an unknown 22-year-old architect was chosen. In 1904 King Edward VII laid the Foundation Stone in the presence of 7,000 people. Building began at the East end and, by means of a series of temporary walls, the whole building moved towards completion. / . / In 2007 Steve Williams photographed the building before editing the image to produce a detailed and daunting view of this magnificent example of architecture. A central location provided multiple points of interest within the structure. / . / Liverpool Cathedral is also located on the same road as my house and a friend helped with the style of the photo when she explained how the building reminded her of something from Lord of the Rings. / . / Another view of the Cathedral / . / / . / Let me know what you think / . / Ste

Jesus often went to a quiet place to pray. Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. Mark 1:35 A crop from an acrylic abstract landscape painting with decorative side bar and additinal digital effect added.

It happened that a Countryman was sowing some hemp seeds in a field where a Swallow and some other birds were hopping about picking up their food. “Beware of that man,” quoth the Swallow. “Why, what is he doing?” said the others. “That is hemp seed he is sowing; be careful to pick up every one of the seeds, or else you will repent it.” The birds paid no heed to the Swallow’s words, and by and by the hemp grew up and was made into cord, and of the cords nets were made, and many a bird that had despised the Swallow’s advice was caught in nets made out of that very hemp. “What did I tell you?” said the Swallow. Destroy the seed of evil, or it will grow up to your ruin

Though this is far from a true B&W image, I thought the title was well suited. This original capture was in color, shot of Mount Shasta in Northern CA in September, 2007…...inverted and the data converted to B&W…..some final editing was done for the finished effect. The Morrigan is a Celtic goddess of battle, strife, and fertility. Her name translates as either “Great Queen” or “Phantom Queen,” and both epithets are entirely appropriate for her. The Morrigan appears as both a single goddess and a trio of goddesses. The Morrigan frequently appears in the ornithological guise of a hooded crow. She is one of the Tuatha Dé Danann (“Tribe of the goddess Danu” or the land of the Faries) and she helped defeat the Firbolg at the First Battle of Mag Tuireadh and the Fomorians at the Second Battle of Mag Tuireadh. She is often read about in books that are about the Fae. She appeared to the hero Cu Chulainn (son of the god Lugh) and offered her love to him. When he failed to recognize her and rejected her, she told him that she would hinder him when he was in battle. When Cu Chulainn was eventually killed, she settled on his shoulder in the form of a crow. Cu’s misfortune was that he never recognized the feminine power of sovereignty that she offered to him. She appeared to him on at least four occasions and each time he failed to recognize her. 1.When she appeared to him and declared her love for him. / 2.After he had wounded her, she appeared to him as an old hag and he offered his blessings to her, which caused her to be healed. / 3.On his way to his final battle, he saw the Washer at the Ford, who declared that she was washing the clothes and arms of Cu Chulainn, who would soon be dead. / 4.When he was forced by three hags (the Morrigan in her triple aspect) to break a taboo of eating dogflesh. / / Resources: Background: Funky Terrain by MatrixStock and Misty Ocean by LucieG-Stock / Woman by dazzle-stock / Crow brushes by lugubrum-stock All artworks contained herein have been created in Photoshop CS3 or Photographed, by Adara Rosalie, and are all original artworks. / My gallery is Copyright © 2008-2009 Adara Rosalie.
