photoshop photos, PS brushes and model is (by) me / working with many layers of different transparencies and blending modes and six photos (all my own) + painting and smudging to make the ears and to attach the wings to the body. the orbs were painted and reflections added and distorted with the liquify filter.

Here is the image following ‘Red Ribbon’. My little girl worked out how to open the heavy back gate and thought she could escape into the big park at the back of our new house. I decided to add this image to satisfy the curiosity of everyone who wanted to know what she saw through the hole in the gate!

I was watching the music video for “A Beautiful Lie” by 30 Seconds to Mars, and was really touched by the intro with the Eskimos. (If you haven’t seen this, here’s the link! A Beautiful Lie Video ) The band is really breaking grounds by putting this environmental awareness stuff out there. (It can make or break your career in the music biz) I also thought that the director/photographer for the video was a genious! It’s such a captivating and stunning video, the shots of the scenery is amazing! So….I downloaded the CD. (It’s one of my faves right now….GREAT music!) Without the video to distract, I listened to the song with my eyes closed, as I knew this one would work for my next painting. (This is kinda part of my process right now. LOL) The little electric sounds at the beginning and end of the song made me feel like I was either falling into space or just into the dark oblivion. Empty, alone, fragile…..that’s where the background came from. IT’s a deep deep blue almost black – I added the parts that kind of spin out from the inner circle to show that things are spinning out of controll and that you’re spiraling down into the depths of something. Once I had the background done, I went back to listening to the song while the paint dried. This time, I saw that poor poor faerie was the one falling into nothing. This is when I decided to keep everything dark – whites blacks and grays – because I knew there would be an explosion of red. The white and gray leaves came next. I felt like the gray wasn’t the right color, but thought it might look better after adding the trunk and branches. So, I went with a solid black for that. I chose the black to keep with the dark theme, but also because it would really stand out in some parts, yet kind of fade into the background in other areas. (A Beautiful Lie – this is a beautiful tree, but is it really there?) This is when I hated it and wanted to trash it and start over! Instead, I stepped away from it for 2 days – came back refreshed and decided to add in the red & silver. I did the silver to throw in a brighter color to balance the piece a bit, but to also show the etherealness of the faerie. The faerie has fallen and was basically held by the tree. Shes fading into the background and there are spots of her silver body throughout the piece. She’s kind of becoming everything around her. I very much believe in reincarnation and life after death. (Which is also why the pose is almost like the crusifix.) It’s kind of a play on organized religion and what we’ve been told about death in general – It’s all a beautiful lie! :) The red was chosen to symbolize blood. This makes the viewer pose some questions – is it all blood? are those blood splatters or wings? are those blood spots or flowers in the tree? All in all, it’s a play on reality – what’s really there? what isn’t? The Wu Shan Fairy Series Red Cranes on river ice, original art work by Zhao, Ze. The Wu Shen Fairy Series is based on a famous Chinese legend about Wu Shan (Wu Mountain), located at the traditional eastern border of China’s Sichuan Provence on the Yangtze river. This area is popularly known today as the “Three Georges” and is the site of the world’s largest dam for flood control and power generation. As with many legends and fables a number of variations exist. Only a brief summary of the fairy story is described here. Since humans dwelled in China rivers and floods carved history into the mountains, shaped the lives of humans and affected the course of human events. Farmers need rivers to nourish their crops for bountiful yields but nature also wrecks havoc with floods. The struggle with the river that ancient Chinese faced continues in the modern era with the new Three Gorges Dam as the world’s largest construction project. The Chinese poet Lu You also wrote about this area and its fairy stories. / In this context, thousands of years ago the Queen of the West sent her beautiful young daughter Wao Ji and 11 hand maidens to watch over the Jade Pool. These 12 fairies are symbolized by the 12 peaks of the gorge. The lovely Wao Ji wandered and lived among the animals. Eventually she settled in the magnificent beauty of Wu Shan. She observed the suffering of humans caused by the river floods and took pity. Ultimately, she had a rendezvous with Prince Chu and gave him a book describing how to control the river and its floods. / There are many additional details to this epoch not retold here. You can search under “Three Gorges History”, “Wu Shan Mountain” or “Wu Shan Fairy” for the rest of the story. The paintings are the artist’s image of the beautiful fairy goddess and her surroundings.

This is an old image from 2007. / It’s a self portrait taken indoors with studio lighting and then I had a stock image of a forest I composed onto the background. It was done so long ago I don’t have the information on where I got the forest stock, so I can’t credit it. But it was a moderately used texture which doesn’t dominate the piece. Bramble Rainbowtree…. she throws her arms skyward reaching to the heavens above… spots, stripes, flowers and streamers are added to convey the celebration and joyfulness in her spontaneous gesture…. ...Little Bramble Rainbowtree began as a little pencil drawing inspired by my beautiful niece Maya, who has the longest hair ever! This so reminds me of her, except that Maya’s hair is much more beautiful and much darker in colour. ...I have coloured Bramble Rainbowtree digitally, I hope you like this special fairy :) ...a great little vintage design for big and little girls, friends, birthdays, gifts, bedroom decor, nursery walls, etc.
