This is part of a series i have put together. I am growing ever fascinated with childhood, their thoughts and in particular children’s literature, art and so-called amusement – there is always an intense darkness about it – so i have tried to create dark images visually and psychologically – i didn’t ask Abe to pose but was pleased his head was turned because now i hope we look through him and discover our own thoughts (Hope that makes sense to you).
The dizzy after spell you feel coming off the chairoplane is depicted here. Created in illustrator and Photoshop, unworldly bright colours and blurs gives the piece an in motion feel.

A carousel is an amusement ride consisting of a rotating platform with seats, traditionally in the form of wooden horses or animals, for passengers which are often moved mechanically up and down to simulate galloping. This leads to one of the machine’s alternative names, the galloper. Other popular names are merry-go-round, roundabout and flying horses. Usually, music is looped while the rides spins.

A chairoplane ride at a local show – was one of my favourite rides when I was young.
All the fun of the fair! Memories of childhood, having fun, being excited, eating wonderfully strange foods, feeling desperately ill and wanting more! The yearly fair at Barham Park, Sudbury Town, Wembley. / /
‘Helter Skelter’ written by Paul McCartney, but as with all Beatles songs was credited to Lennon/McCartney, was recorded by The Beatles on 1968 The White Album. The extract reads / ‘When I get to the bottom / I go back to the top of the slide / Where I stop and turn / and I go for a ride / Till I get to the bottom and I see you again / Yeah, yeah, yeah’ In British English / A helter skelter is an amusement park ride with a slide built in a spiral around a high tower. Users climb the tower and slide down usually on a mat. In American English / Carelessly hurried and confused or haphazard. Turmoil, pell-mell. Controversially it was one of several White Album compositions taken by Charles Manson as elaborate prophecy of a war to arise from racial tensions between blacks and whites.

Lyrics of Crash Test Dummies “Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm” “Once there was this kid who / Got into an accident and couldn’t come to school / But when he finally came back / His hair had turned from black into bright white / He said that it was from when / The car had smashed so hard Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm / Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm” / ... / Crash Test Dummies / . / / .
I love the freedom of this ride.

I’ve put several versions of this clown up since yesterday, but I’ve finally decided I’m happy with this one (and I have the approval of my 13yo son, lol). / I’ve removed the other versions…my apologies to those of you who took the time to leave comments on them! Clown photo is my own work, but I’ve used the eyes from here
