I HOPE THAT THIS GROUP OF WORK HAS AN AFFECT ON ANYONE THAT HAS LOST ANYONE LOVED. ON OCTOBER 4, MY BROTHER DAVID ALAN, WAS FOUND DEAD IN HIS APARTMENT. DAVID WAS 45 YEARS YOUNG, AND HAD FOUGHT AIDS FOR 19 YEARS. DAVID WAS BEAUTIFUL, BRILLIANT, ACADEMIC AND MOST OF ALL SO VERY HUMAN. DAVID WAS GAY. WHY DOES THIS EVEN NEED TO BE MENTIONED. MY PHOTOGRAPHS AND WORDS, I CAN ONLY HOPE WILL TRY TO EXPLAIN. IT IS 2007, I BELIEVE, ISN’T IT. KNOW THIS MY BROTHER WAS LOVED, AND ALWAYS WILL BE. DAVID WAS GAY. I did this as a 2D cartoon many years ago so suppose it qualifies for that group, just.. I thought it would make a good subject for a humorous carving. It was quite easy, I just cut away anything that didn’t look like a scarecrow. Walnut about 8” high.

I just made myself some toast, forgetting that we ran out of peanut butter last week. There was some jam in the fridge but I think it’s been there too long and didn’t look too good. So I put it back. Only other spread we have is … vegemite. I haven’t had vegemite for years. / I still don’t like vegemite. And just to ensure that reading this post was worth your time, here is an instructional video

In some parts of the city people are not open. I would hesitate to go there to take street photos. Anyway, sometimes the candid shot failed and the subjects noticed me. But no one gave me trouble, ESPECIALLY GIRLS. I always delete those failed shots, but left several. It was intended to take a photo of girls who work in Beijing. They were carrying their luggages to a department store. The two girls on the right saw me.

Strangely as I organize these unfinished, never to be finished, slated for destruction prints and paintings I am just as intrigued by them, if not more, than any of my finished work, which seems in contrast, shopworn. Their fatal artlessness suddenly allows them a quality that makes them feel holy in my hands. These are the efforts of mine that will be cast into the fire being born only for my eyes. I feel a profound intimacy handling them.
