  • My work was the WINNER of the Faerie World groups competition , “The Brothers Grimm”. Thanks to everyone who took the time to vote for me and those that support my work! Excerpt from Grimm Brother’s, Cinderella Story “Now that no one else was at home, Cinderella went to her mother’s grave beneath the hazel tree, and cried out: Shake and quiver, little tree, / Throw gold and silver down to me. / Then the bird threw a gold and silver dress down to her, and slippers embroidered with silk and silver. She quickly put on the dress and went to the festival….read more This is my artistic depiction of the Grimm Brother’s Cinderella. I used artistic license to add the fairies to the tree, the flowers and her dress. I even created a special fairy showering Cinderella with magic creating her dress, her crown, the carriage and horses. • Winner of Competition #4 in the Faerie World / Tarot Card Competition My entry for the Faerie World Tarot card contest. Thought it seemed like a bit of fun :) The meaning behind the Strength card: / The design of this card is fairly constant across tarot decks. The key characters are that of a woman and a lion, with the woman looking calm and gentle, yet dominant over the lion. It can be a reminder not to despair or give up. You have the inner strength to endure and triumph. If you are pushing too hard, you need to withdraw for the moment and be patient. If other people or circumstances are driving you crazy, remember the strength that comes with love and forbearance. These will see you through the hardest moments. This card represents the kind of strength that comes from a generous loving heart and unconditional love. You have the courage of your convictions and you will triumph over hatred and enemies. ..::Stock Photo Credit::.. / Background / Model / Lion / Heart

  • Model – Millie Claire / MUA – Cloe Bunter of Makeup by Cloe Pentacon Six TL + Kodak Portra 160VC / I won’t show the digital versions, seems to have caused a little friction on dA ;) Needless to say if you’re familiar with the original Snow White text, you might just know what this is about :D Melbourne’s Parklands have very photogenic footpaths. I believe this was shot in the Queen Vic Park… I dunno, it was hot and there were a LOT of parks. Copyright 2008 Harmony Nicholas

  • This Fairy was painted using watercolour and acrylic. I scanned the finished piece into the computer and then enhanced it digitally. She was created for my youngest daughter Emily who was afraid at night. The night-time fairy now watches over her in her bedroom and guess what???? She’s not scared now!!! Yey Night-time Fairy :)

  • Acrylic on 11×14 canvas board Springtime is my favorite season, I just love all of the new growth and color that pops up! I’ve seen Spring in many places, but I have to say, Springtime in Oregon is absolutely stunning! On my drive home from work the other day, I noticed that there are Cherry Blossoms and what I think are a type of Japanese Maples blooming EVERYWHERE!! Some are bright pink, some are pale pink, some are a vibrant purple! These new colors really stood out and stuck in my head. Originally, I saw this painting as having the deep green background, that you see, with shades of purples for the leaves…..I wanted more of a wine or grape feel. But….I encountered a slight problem. The royal purple that I wanted to lay down first would not show up on the deep green in the background! I was rather frustrated, so I went back to the original inspiration and mixed up some pink. Once I started laying down the pink, I thought to myself: “Oh dear, this is WAY too bright!” Needless to say, my spirits were crushed a little when things weren’t working as planned. But…I trusted my Muse and let her guide me through this. Once I was done with the pink, I went back in with some purple…YAY for the bright pink letting it show up this time! Then came the trunk and branches, followed by the highlites. Of course, my troubles couldn’t be over! I was stuck! I couldn’t decide how to finish off the piece! What final color would tie everything together? Would there be a home for a faerie in this one?! So, I went back to the source of inspiration for this series – the music! The music that was playing during this painting was from Faerie Radio again. (Really, go listen!! FaerieRadio) Songs by Australian artist, Louisa John Krol were playing much more frequently than any other artist on the playlist. I took this as a sign and went to her myspace page to hear more. I was a little bummed at first that she only had one song available to play, and it wasn’t one that I had heard. But, I clicked play anyway and everything fell into place! “Come blackbird and take my soul away / You won’t keep your vagabond at bay! / Your fortress hangs heavy in the tree: / Come blackbird and take the soul of me away…. / Who will listen into your lore? / Will the echo follow your call? / Who will listen while you’re waiting by the wooden door? “ / Louisa John-Krol So, I went back to the canvas and added in the Faerie. She’s waiting, by the wooden door, ready for the blackbird to come. She doesn’t want to be forgotten when she’s gone so she blows some of her magick into the wind… UPDATE / I took the original with me to my very first art show….it was the only painting that sold that night! YAY! It now belongs to a very fun and lovely 16 year old girl! Thanks! Available as a T-Shirt HERE

  • Sometimes the little forest creatures are sick and this is where the faeries are at their best. They know every little secret, potion or magic spell to make them all better again! Mummy mouse is very worried but everything is going to be okay soon. The ladybug is there as well but very little people see it which is the whole idea, of course. They always are around if someone needs a babysitter. The story must be very exciting! Remember, if you ever get sick or wounded in a forest, the little faeries will take care of you when they find you (they always do).

  • 9×12 pastel on black Colorfix paper I am always amazed by how the most beautiful and exotic places on the planet are also the most dangerous for humans. I often try to portray this idea in the faeries that I draw. This little faerie is just that, beautiful and exotic, and yet has a look of warning in her eyes.

  • In my dream, I am hiding in this forest, so peaceful and full of magic. This is the only place where I can smell the colors. They don’t know I’m there, they would go away if they did, though I dont know why. I’m just eight years old. Why would they be afraid of me? I don’t want to find out tonight, I just want to see how they work. These fairies are the spirits of nature, they clean the air (I guess). I would love to ask them so many questions. Why can I only see them at night? It all feels so real that I am not sure it is a dream anymore. • 10×13 pastel on Tiziano paper This is what I did today instead of the hundred other things I needed to do. The last thing I thought I would be doing today is drawing another faerie….she just wouldn’t leave me alone! I think that is one reason we are so drawn to faeries. We imagine them living in nature wild and free. No laundry to fold, socks to match, kids to pick up, house to clean, dinner to cook. Wild and free and unaffected by time! Because Time is the Revelator!!

  • The little Star Fairy is very busy illuminating the park to create the magic of Christmas. Darkness comes very early in the winter, but the beautiful glittering trees will light up the night and will make the children’s eyes sparkle with joy and wonder. I uploaded the first version of this file quite late at night and did not notice until the following morning that I had uploaded the wrong version with the cloning out of the electric wires still obvious and the concrete texture too strong. I thought that I might as well fix a few things at the same time, so this one is in fact a rework of what I have uploaded last night, on December 19. During my recent midnight walk in the park, I set my camera on a tripod and made two shots of the illuminated trees around which unfolds the circular skating rink. One in focus and the other completely out of focus for the bokeh. In Photoshop, I combined the two images in overlay, adding a few adjustment layers, several sparkle and glitter brushes and a stock image of a child. I omitted the concrete texture in this version, but added a very thin overall veil of light and a little blur to add softness. Brushes from here , here and here / Little girl Here are the two photos I made of the park, in and out of focus (Parc de la Promenade, Candiac, Quebec, Canada) / /
