  • Watercolor and pencil on drawing paper. “My people are the Tuatha de Danann, and I’m the lover of handsome Caoimhin, he of the long, curling locks. Bored with those around me, I fell for this wild man. Driven from my land of Fianna for wanton behavior he was immoral even by our lax faery mores, but when he held in his arms, I cared not. And so I left the fairy dimension, accompanying him to the human world. We made love and laughed by the sea without cares until one day the magical wave sent by my father, Manannan Mac Lir swept me from mortal shores. I’d fallen asleep and was napping on the warm sand and pebbles of Glendore Bay in fair County Cork, when it caught me unaware. Trapped in its swift undertow I was returned to Fianna. For such and more I’m now a goddess of the otherworld, afterlife, and physical beauty, a goddess of the sea, often called the ruler of the waves. Fairy humor! For who knows better than I the sea’s great strength, the myriad hidden paths meandering beneath the western oceans, and that there is indeed life after life after life? From my lover I learned the deception of fair appearances, a graceful wave’s hidden power, ways of crossing one realm to another and back unseen. While forbidden to leave Fianna ever again, there are secret ways by which I travel to the earthly dimension, my still body lying as if asleep while spirit flies abroad. Often I don the guise of sea bird or shapely earth woman accompanied by three brightly feathered birds. These magical little creatures are always with me, and I feed them apples plucked from the World Tree that grows in the Otherworld. Their sweet singing charms the ailing to sleep, and waves of healing wash away pain and sickness while they dream”. Text and Image copyright 2007 Helena Nelson -Reed. • La Fee Verte
    by Shanina Conway

    US$19.24–US$102.60

The Green Fairy ( La Fee Verte) / Now available in Print and Poster size. The Green fairy was source of artistic inspiration and enlightenment to the likes of Picasso, Oscar Wilde, Lautrec, Crowley, Van Gogh and Poe. The effects of the Green Fairy were probably best summed up by Oscar Wilde: “The first stage is like ordinary drinking, the second when you begin to see monstrous and cruel things, but if you can persevere you will enter in upon the third stage where you see things that you want to see, wonderful curious things.” “Absinthe has a wonderful colour, green. A glass of absinthe is as poetical as anything in the world. What difference is there between a glass of absinthe and a sunset?”—Wilde / In the early 1900’s a series of Children’s books featuring the green fairy were pulished. / Also Available in Card format click card to see more details

  • Beltane's Dance FWC#1
    by Marny Barnes

    US$3.42–US$91.20

“I am the half sister of the Great king Arthur Pendragon. History claims I am a witch. In truth…I have the blood of the faerie running thick in my veins. I am not an evil witch, but a priestess of the Goddess. Merlin took Arthur right after he was born, to have him raised somewhere else. We did not grow up together he and I. I was brought to Avalon at a rather young age to become a priestess. After Arthur was acknowledged as the successor to the throne, he had to pass a test. As a maiden-priestess I was chosen to sleep with the Stag King (which was Arthur that night). During this night our son Mordred was conceived. This was the begining of the end of the Knights of the Round Table and the downfall of Arthur’s Kindom.” Lady Morgaine

  • The Offering
    by Julie Miles

    US$3.42–US$68.40

This is the finished (for now!) artwork that had once been called “Conversation Piece.” As Mark Twain said on the art of writing, a good author is never content with his work and always seeks to revise it. So, too, are my 3D art pieces. Feedback is always, always, always, highly encouraged and looked for, not to mention that those providing any are appreciated, thanked, and potentially worshipped ahead of time. / ~~

  • I started painting faeries in year at uni. This was partly because I LIKED faeries and also… as it was I had had enough of the contemporary art bullshit that the lecturers were shovelling. I thought faeries were about as far from that as anything could be. Let me explain a little before you think it is just bitterness… In mid third year, I had a review – this is the practice of the whole division of painting students – about 70 people stand around making comments with the lecturers. Which I have no problem with. I did nowhere near as well as people who did minimalist stuff. The painting award was given to a woman who had done big canvases covered in pink paint – flat pink with no variation – with little green dots – about four of them – in a line across the middle. Anyhoo, I was running really late for my review and you are supposed to be there for everyone’s – from, the beginning of the day. I had a commission to paint a little delhi… I had walked into it and criticised the awful painting they had on the wall of their last business. I didn’t say anything NASTY, I just said the brushwork looked like it had been done too quickly. So the owners said they would pay me if they thought could do something better. Which I DID. I only asked for $100 or something equally small. I finished it in time before I left for Queensland the next day, but that was the same day as my review. So I was late. Also the bastards… um the people – at the deli – told me they didn’t want the piece. This despite the fact that the piece was very realistic, and I sold it far later on to someone who had nothing to do with the deli, for much more. I was late to my review and the third years were last. So the lecturers were exhausted. It takes a long time to do the marking of so many people. I was getting marked by a guy who I knew to dismiss anything that wasn’t minimalism – seriously! – doing his doctorate, and by a guy I didn’t know and by the fibre and textiles lecturer. She was, I believe, not interested in anything that was not basically what I would call contemporary CRAFT. Though some of the work done by the students in her classes was extraordinary. I had 40 pieces of work. 40. More than any of the other students in the whole damned uni. They gave me a FLAT PASS. That means I got 50%. So for a couple of months I painted faeries. I had the mark reviewed by the dean and got a distinction eventually. But it REALLY PISSED ME OFF.
