  • Traveling on his way, the Fool first encounters a Magician. Skillful, self-confident, a powerful Magus with the infinite as a halo floating above his head, the Magician mesmerizes the Fool. When asked, the Fool gives over his bundled pack and stick to the Magician. Raising his wand to heaven, pointing his finger to Earth, the Magician calls on all powers; magically, the cloth of the pack unfolds upon the table, revealing its contents. And to the Fool’s eyes it is as if the Magician has created the future with a word. There are all the possibilities laid out, all the directions he can take. The cool, airy Sword of intellect and communication, the fiery Wand of spirituality and ambition, the overflowing Chalice of Love and emotions, the solid Pentacle of work, possessions and body. With these tools, the Fool can create anything, make anything of his life. But here’s the question, did the Magician create the tools, or were they already in the pack? Only the Magician knows – and on this mystery, our eloquent mage refuses to say a word. At #1, the Magician is the male power of creation, creation by willpower and desire. In that ancient sense, it is the ability to make things so just by speaking them aloud (“And God said ‘Let there be Light!’ and there was Light”). / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—- / To read more go to this site

  • “Three Susans”, is a testament to the beauty of autumn’s, Black-eyed Susans. It seems the blooms never really decide whether to be yellow, or orange. But in the end it doesn’t matter… they are gorgeous. Three Susans, is done on watercolor paper. The basic color scheme is painted in with watercolor and markers, the finishing is done with color pencil. I used many shades of purple for the background that lends the piece a startling, yet strangely subtle contrast. • Lucky, our female labrador/german shepherd mix, seems to be pleading with me to go and play with her in the snow. She was moving a lot and I haven’t been able to get a clear sharp shot with her completely in the frame. I kept this shot anyway just because I love the look in her eyes. Lucky has been rescued from the shelter in Montreal a year ago by my sister. She was sick with kennel cough and needed a temporary foster family to bring her back to health. One month later, she came to live with us permanently because my sister could not bring herself to send her back to the shelter. We are all very fond of her. • 18×24 acrylic on canvas I painted this one for The Divine Feminine’s challenge “Loving Ladies”. This is my favorite goddess of Love, Lakshmi. This is not your traditional painting of Lakshmi, for instance, I didn’t give her 4 arms. But I think it captures her beauty and femininity. Lakshmi is also the goddess of beauty and wealth. She is kind of like the goddess of the law of attraction. In truth, Lakshmi teaches us to accept our beauty and to find true happiness in the realization of the abundance of our soul. • My depiction of the legendary Badak Api or “Fire Rhino.” Thus sayeth Wikipedia: / “There are legends about rhinoceros stamping out fire in Malaysia, India, and Burma. The mythical rhinoceros has a special name in Malay, badak api, where badak means rhinoceros and api means fire. The animal would come when a fire is lit in the forest and stamp it out.” In this artwork I portrayed the Badak Api as a wise-looking red beast, whose horn sheds a glowing light as he patrols the forests looking for fires to stamp out. My drawing is based off of the Black Rhino, a critically endangered species of Rhino from Africa. Original artwork is 11×14 on Canson paper and is a mixed media piece featuring oil pastels, marker, and gold paint pen. View more of my artwork at www.lynnetteshelley.com

  • What is it about Milly? Sometimes there’s something about someone that you know is special. You can’t put your finger on it. The gender doesn’t matter. Sometimes the age doesn’t matter. “What is it about Milly?” explores the wonder of that indescribable “something”.
