This is one of my favorite photographs of my dog Molly, a red and / white Irish Setter. One of my great joys is looking into her / deep and soulful eyes. She has the rare capacity to make us laugh / simply by viewing her various expressions. Her feelings and / reactions are on the surface and Molly appears to not possess any awareness of why we can’t restrain ourselves from laughing as / we delight in her pure innocence. An American Mink, suddenly peeks out from underneath some rocks along the beach at Whiffen Spit, Vancouver Island, BC. He appeared as surprised to see me a few feet away as I was to see him as he stared at me with his soulful watery eyes but luckily I had my camera and 500mm lens already mounted on the tripod and was able to hastily get a couple of photographs of him before he disappeared back under the rocks again. The Western Lowland Gorilla is a subspecies of the Western Gorilla that lives in montane, primary, and secondary forests and lowland swamps in Angola, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea and Gabon. Adult male Gorillas are prone to cardiomyopathy, a degenerative heart disease. Babec, a Western Lowland Gorilla on exhibit at the Birmingham Zoo in Birmingham, Alabama (USA) was the first gorilla to receive an artificial pacemaker. Binti Jua, who resides at Brookfield Zoo in Illinois, saved a three year old boy who fell into her enclosure in 2003. / The Western Lowland Gorilla is critically endangered.
