Of the two albino squirrels that I shot this morning, one was still a little sleepy. I was trying to get a clear shot of his entire head, but I couldn’t get the angle needed. Still, that twig was gripped in the squirrel’s hind foot, so I guess it was a good trade-off. It was also a rare treat to catch this little critter sleeping. The more that I look at this picture, the more that I love it. I can’t look at it now without smiling. I also now tend to reflect upon the helplessness of nature as man continues to invade their environment. How many animals will lose their homes to man’s quest for more profit today, tomorrow, the years ahead?

pencil embellished limited-edition print of pencil drawing “Heliotroped” / (The original drawing was done on standard white layout paper – in a spiral bound tablet – I had to draw it twice because as I went I smeared it and had to redefine the lines the second time out.) See if you can find the poem that was tucked into this print and then sent to me anonymously. Update: Aug. 2, 2009 / I finally located the entire poem today. It was on the back of a Klimt postcard given to me at the same time the print was. / Here it is: .......................................................................................................... “When I met her / she lived, / isolated, / on a narrow lane. She had a wrought-iron fence / with a black rose growing through the gate, / locking it. The rose was groomed beautifully. / The gate it seemed had been locked for years. She would say little about the gate. / But she seemed very proud of the rose. / Eventually, she accepted a gift from me. / The gift was a white seed. A white rose now grows, wild and resisting any grooming. Still, she regards the rose with fear and awe.” ..................................................................................................... pencil on paper drawing – 18” wide x 24” high / The paper was from a spiral bound notebook – not a wonderful grade but it’s all I had in my house at the time. This was the first drawing I did after a 15 year hiatus. / I referred to books on botany to put in actual plants (and then made up a lot of my own). The heliotrope plant is actually in there. I liked the little play on words. Helios – the god of sun – growing towards that orb and the word “trapped”. / This is the story of being in those two states at the same time. This drawing has toured many countries. It hung in New York at “The New Surrealists” exhibition a few years ago – with a Dali. / That’s it for me. I can retire my pencils. / (smile) Signed and numbered limited-edition prints are available at my main web site’s store / The archival matted and framed original is for sale. Please email me for details.

It started with photographed street lights in foggy darkness and modified using the liquefy tool. Subsequently layered with elements from several other photographs, some of which were also “liquefied”, and shapes and textures that were Photoshop -generated. It involved 31 layers in hue, overlay, lighten, pin, linear and hard lights, multiply, exclusion, difference, colour, screen and normal modes. Criticism always welcome.

Seriously, i need a model, a free one, that is cool and likes to do whatever I want to create…. / Also I wish my hair was that long, it was pretty close once upon a time. I was thinking about Dreams today (the life goals kinda dreams), i thought about the way its called a dream and thought about my interpretation of its meaning. / A dream (of the mind as you rest) is this strange crazy event and you are just so lost in the whole thing, everything that happens makes no sense, but you pretend it does so well that your pretending turns to believing quite instantly. It always starts of fairly simple, but then shit happens, more shit happens and more and more shit happens, until you completely forget how you got to where you are and what the purpose of whatever it is you are doing is, then you wake up, and you either forget the whole thing and go back to living life, or you remember it as just some crazy event and you have no idea what was going through your mind at the time and then you go back to living life and all the while nothing really ever happened. / A dream (the goal kinda dream) is the same thing, you think of a dream, then you go through some shit, forget what the hell you are doing and get completely lost and all the other stuff that i said for the sleep dream, then at some stage you have woken up and are just back to living life, its just some event that happened that you are slowly forgetting over time. / I think thats why its called a dream…..... We can still hope it comes true though, especially this one… . Self Nikon D90 18-200mm Featured in / Hairstyles / Young enthusiasts
