Actually it’s a view up the atrium of the Galleries Lafayette* (previously incorrectly referred to as ‘Printemps’) department store in Paris, France. They’re remarkably indulgent about tourists taking photos from the balconies on each floor (and in my case, although not for this shot, from the floor of the cosmetics department looking upwards). *The view from the roof is pretty spectacular, too, by the way – and it’s free!

“Three Susans”, is a testament to the beauty of autumn’s, Black-eyed Susans. It seems the blooms never really decide whether to be yellow, or orange. But in the end it doesn’t matter… they are gorgeous. Three Susans, is done on watercolor paper. The basic color scheme is painted in with watercolor and markers, the finishing is done with color pencil. I used many shades of purple for the background that lends the piece a startling, yet strangely subtle contrast. / Click them / / / / This shot was very difficult. The glass was so weak, one slight movement and it would have all fallen on the floor. Not only that, to get the focus just right I had to put it right next to my eye, so the shock in my eye is very real! Obviously a bit of color manipulation, but that’s all, it’s alllllll photograph.

That Can Only Be Seen Through the Cracks… All images used in this composite taken with Sony Alpha 350, various lenses, and are mine. Currently (8.11.09) 935 views Separate layers of images of broken glass using various blending modes, individual ‘shards’ of glass from different images layered on top to attempt to give the appearance of their sharp edges ‘threatening’ the viewer. The image of the person layered underneath and ‘stretched’ so that the eyes matched the gaps in the cracks. / I experimented with desaturating the colour in this image, but decided that leaving colour ‘as is’ from the various layers created more impact.
