I know I’ve got a lot of HDR and humor, but I do take some serious shots. / Sigma 150mm macro + Simga 2x TC / This little guy was super patient with me! Even after this he didn’t fly away.
This shot was taken from a pedestrian bridge over the thames. The flight path to heathrow that day was over the city, so every 90 seconds a plane would appear in shot …. very handy. Cropped and treated in photoshop.

What can I say? This creature mesmerised me…and almost got me questioned by the staff at the Hardware/Nursey place. / I have no idea what type of dragonfly she is.(she? Yes…well usually the females in insects are bigger than the males! This one was HUGE at approxiamtely 4 inches from eyes to tip of tail….) I am entering this in the “Upclose and Spineless Photographic competition ” run by the Australian Museum. I have discovered it is called a “T-Mark” Emerald Dragonfly. You can see the T mark clearly on his nose.
...yet another song stuck in my head this weekend

i can fly and i am beautiful
Oestridae (commonly called bot flies or botflies) is a family of Oestroidea. It is one of several families of hairy flies whose larvae live as parasites within the bodies of mammals. There are approximately 150 known species worldwide. Eggs are deposited in animal skin directly, the body heat of the animal induces hatching upon contact. Some forms of botfly also reside in the digestive tract when consumed by a licking action. When ready to emerge, a thumbnail-sized lump will appear and the Fly will break through the skin and fly away leaving it’s host alive with a small wound. / Wiki / Olympus E510
I’m not normally a big fan of the square format but I’m experimenting in making CD-suitable covers.
/ Journey of a Thousand Thoughts / the drawing prior to photoshopping I drew this last night in bed….with a sketch pad on my lap, by a lowlit lamp…..the eyes came first, as usual…....then the rest…...until i had but a head…..and no room for a body…... I thought what can I add to make this more about me, more interesting….then i remembered the beautiful hot air balloons I’d seen recently photographed by my friend Steven Agius and a while ago some other balloons taken by my friend Jeannette Sheehy and I thought it would make a great balloon….drifting away through the atmosphere, deep in thought….that’s how i often find myself…semi self portrait Drawn with pencil on A3 acid free cartridge paper. / Coloured in photoshop

Canon 350d and macro lens MPE-65mm / Taken at 4 x magnification / F16 and ISO 100 / He is from the family of Assassin/Robber Flies. / They are arial or ambush hunters and are mostly found in open or lighted wooded areas. / This chap was in our garden which is small and not wooded :) – it just goes to show that we need to keep our eyes open anywhere.
A portrait of the Green Long Legged Fly, or Dolichopodid Fly. If you have these flies in your rose garden, it’s a good thing, they love the taste of Aphids. I waited and hung around these guys for a long while, and didn’t unfortunately catch one eating. Not sure how often they do eat. Captured in the Northern Suburbs of brisbane, sitting on a common garden shrub leaf. They grow to about 6mm in length, and usually bright coloured green in colour. Some varieties have black patches on their wings. Canon 5D Mk II, 65mm, 4x. Available very large, and best appreciated large!
