Just downstream from where the Franklin River joins the Gordon RIver in Tasmania’s South-West World Heritage Area. Despite its remote, pristine appearance, this spot recieves thousands of visitors per year from nearby Strahan. Under the pier at Cowes, Phillip Island, Victoria, Australia at Dawn. Taken at the same time as Beginning of a new day for something a little bit different. This little gem can be found just around the corner from Loch Ard Gorge near Port Campbell off Victoria’s Great Ocean Road, Australia. I came here the afternoon before and there were snap happy tourists everywhere but decided to come back the next morning and there wasn’t a soul in sight, just the crashing ocean to keep me company… Unfortunately as of early June 2009 this archway has collapsed leaving two apostles next to eachother. Surely one of the most treasured spots to sit and watch as a new day breaks. Lake Louise, Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada / July, 2009 Lake Louise, set in the Banff National Park in Canada is perhaps known as the Diamond of the Rockies for no other reason than its sheer beauty alone. Having arrived in Canada on the previous afternoon after a long trans-Atlantic flight, the idea to beat the effects of jet lag were adopted with a 3am alarm call and the chance to shoot Lake Louise in all its splendour at dawn. Following a 45 mins drive from Banff accompanied along the way with storms over the mountains lighting the otherwise black night sky, we arrived at Lake Louise in good time for sunrise. Some may know the lake as a bustling tourist spot with coaches coming and going throughout the day. Dropping off their cargo at the water’s edge to take in the majesty of Louise before whisking them off to a further destination all to the sound of clicking shutters and the gentle whir of digital handy-cams. For Claire and I the experience was to sit alone in silence; the only guests at Natures matinee performance… The dedication to early starts could not be better rewarded.

Port Noarlunga Jetty. / South Australia. A combination of all my favourite techniques: / Wide angle, long exospure, HDR and night photography. Canon 50D. / 10-20mm (at 10mm) HDR – 3 Bracketed Exposures (up to 30 seconds) blended manually in CS3. The longest exposure (2 stops overexposed) brought out the unusual streaks from the jetty lights. Click for larger preview. See also: /

What is it? / This is a long exposure shot capturing the rotation of the Falkirk Wheel in Scotland – the world’s first revolving canal boat lift. It takes approximately 4 minutes to fully rotate and lifts boats up to the next level of the canal. An amazing piece of architechtural design and engineering, apparently it only takes the equivalent power of boiling a kettle to power each rotation.
