To me this is an exciting industrial landscape where all the elements and colour work in harmony with each other. I find these places full of artisitc quality and have a real fascination in capturing these moments and re-presenting them in an aesthetic way.

Just downstream from where the Franklin River joins the Gordon RIver in Tasmania’s South-West World Heritage Area. Despite its remote, pristine appearance, this spot recieves thousands of visitors per year from nearby Strahan. This is La Courtine, one of the most beautiful cliff I’ve ever seen. La Courtine is part of the amazing rocky coast around Etretat in Upper Normandy, France, altogether known as Les Failases d’Etretat. I took this picture last August, on a very windy – as usual over there – late afternoon. / I wanted to have the sea looking as much smooth as possible, but I was in full daylight, as it was around 19:30 hours. Even with the overcasted sky, and even full stopping down the lens, the exposure time was only 1/2 seconds, a too fast time to move the sea surface. Using a polarizer and a 8x ND filter I gained 5 more stops, obtaining therefore, with a slight over-exposure, 20 secs of exposure time. Finally, I used a graduated filter to darken the sky, while keeping a correct exposure on the cliffs and the sea. / This allowed me to give the sea surface a watercolour paint look, and I also obtained a slight movement in the clouds, thanks to the strong wind. Background Information: / Antelope Canyon is the most-visited and most-photographed slot canyon in the American Southwest. It is located on Navajo land near Page, Arizona. Antelope Canyon includes two separate, photogenic slot canyon sections, referred to individually as Upper Antelope Canyon or The Crack; and Lower Antelope Canyon or The Corkscrew. The Navajo name for Upper Antelope Canyon is Tse’ bighanilini, which means “the place where water runs through rocks.” Lower Antelope Canyon is Hasdestwazi, or “spiral rock arches.” Both are located within the LeChee Chapter of the Navajo Nation. This shot was approx 8 minutes @ f8, ISO 200 with ND4 grad filter. / Taken about half an hour before sunrise at Sandgate, Qld. / I calculated the exposure by taking a shot at f4 ISO 3200 and multiplying it out.

Surely one of the most treasured spots to sit and watch as a new day breaks. Lake Louise, Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada / July, 2009 Lake Louise, set in the Banff National Park in Canada is perhaps known as the Diamond of the Rockies for no other reason than its sheer beauty alone. Having arrived in Canada on the previous afternoon after a long trans-Atlantic flight, the idea to beat the effects of jet lag were adopted with a 3am alarm call and the chance to shoot Lake Louise in all its splendour at dawn. Following a 45 mins drive from Banff accompanied along the way with storms over the mountains lighting the otherwise black night sky, we arrived at Lake Louise in good time for sunrise. Some may know the lake as a bustling tourist spot with coaches coming and going throughout the day. Dropping off their cargo at the water’s edge to take in the majesty of Louise before whisking them off to a further destination all to the sound of clicking shutters and the gentle whir of digital handy-cams. For Claire and I the experience was to sit alone in silence; the only guests at Natures matinee performance… The dedication to early starts could not be better rewarded.

Port Noarlunga Jetty. / South Australia. A combination of all my favourite techniques: / Wide angle, long exospure, HDR and night photography. Canon 50D. / 10-20mm (at 10mm) HDR – 3 Bracketed Exposures (up to 30 seconds) blended manually in CS3.
