A pair of oiran, not geisha. My scanner sometimes frustrates me. / A lot. exposition – february 2008
I was honored to have access to my Mother-in-Law, Nancy’s saved photos, artwork and other interesting things. She passed away last year. She was a wonderful artist in her own right. I came across several torn, crumbling images of the Pan American Exposition. While she wasn’t born yet, they ended up in her possession. I took some artistic liberty piecing together and working on restoring some of the original integrity to this image using Picassa. Being from Buffalo, NY…I’m still awestruck by it’s rich history this amazing exposition being one. A few structures are left standing but little remains. I can’t believe that I found on youtube an actual film of this event by Thomas Edison. Please check out this amazing history and hear some good music too. “One man show : the Art of Andy Mercer at the Pompidou Centre Paris 2008” One of a series of abstract works based a simple wandering line created for my one man show at the Pompidou in 2008. Wonderful recycled paper courtesy of Soxy Fleming I like the idea that this looks like a one off crafty type of work but all is not as it seems.. the drawing and the recycled paper have only come together in digital form. The “paper” is a scan of Soxy’s wonderfully delicate recycled paper. Which is almost too fragile to draw on.. I like the idea that its paper that isn’t really meant for drawing on and the line drawing was done on standard art paper scanned and then the two were brought together digitally. Is the fake picture.. art.. or is the picture of the fake picture in a fake exhibition.. art ? You must decide ? (DISCLAIMER : This description is probably only 92% accurate.)

This looks like a tall waterfall in a lush and tropical setting, but it is only an illusion! In fact, it measures about 6 feet tall (2 meters) and is located just beside a busy highway. My sister spotted the place when we were driving back from our latest photo walk, which had been somewhat disappointing up to that point. We parked the car and were happy to find interesting rapids (photo will be uploaded later) as well as these waterfalls on a rocky wall. I was trying out my new circular polarizing filter, so I was able to shoot with a slower shutter speed, creating this nice blury effect in the rushing water. There were a few man made objects littering the place, and I did not remove them before shooting. Lumps of bread and a can of soft drink. Focal length 20mm / ISO-200 / Aperture f/8 / Shutter 1/6 sec. Shot hand held in aperture priority / Nikon D60 / AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f3.5-5.6G VR / Sigma Wide Multi-Coated Circular Polarizing filter We did not have a lot of space to work into, as you will see from the photo below. The Plaza de España (Place of Spain) at Seville is maybe the most beautiful urban space I saw ever. Built as one of the facilities to the Iberoamerican exposition of 1928, recently has reached new fame as the Naboo spaceport at George Lucas’ film “Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones”. One of the sevillian traditions is to make a horse’s car ride around some of the most famous locations of the city, and this is what the people in the photo is doing
