Spires in Arches National Park – Utah USA tour 2008 Please view large This area preserves over 2,000 natural sandstone arches as well as many other unusual rock formations. In some areas, the forces of nature have exposed millions of years of geologic history. The extraordinary features of the park create a landscape of contrasting colors, landforms and textures that is unlike any other in the world. / I took this shot after a fall down a hill, my wide angle lens took the brunt but survived thankfully although the polarizer was a little worse for wear. Limping, bleeding and rather scarred I throughly enjoyed my hike around this area. Moral of the story look before you shoot !!! Hope you enjoy the view :) WARNING / ©2008 Globalphotos All rights reserved. / All photographs, text and images by Globalphotos are the exclusive property of Globalphotos – protected under Australian and international copyright laws. / These images may not be reproduced, copied or manipulated without written permission. / No use for Public Domain. / Use of any image for another photographic concept or illustration is a violation of copyright.
Bush in the Brisbane Ranges near Anakie shortly after a bushfire which devastatet the earea.
I think this image is something of an optical illusion. to me, it appears to bulge out, even though it’s concave. you decide.
In a recent fit of madness, I cut off my beard, the whole thing…if you don’t count a little Dizzy Gillespie soul patch action under the lower lip.. on me, it looks like a smear. I’ve had a beard almost as long as I’ve had eyebrows, I think…. Anyway, it seemed like a good idea at the time – all this talk about change wears you down – so I lopped it all off and, as I reported to a few friends in email, discovered a sort of depressed, underfed pigeon staring at me from the mirror…Then I remembered why some of us wear beards… I plan to grow it back – rubbing Rogaine on my chin as I write this…and, in all likelihood, as you read this…. One brave soul asked to see evidence of the naked visage… Since we aims to please, and since shawhouse is nothing if not photojournalist first, something else second, I took this snapshot….. Before you ask, yes, I touched it up a little in photoshop… shawhouse
I was walking around the neighborhood last fall, looking for something to image when i came across this scene. The chair that was placed near some trash bins by a long abandoned government building. The light was just right and the texture of the scene really grabbed me. / “Alone” was featured in the group Rusty, Crusty and Falli… / “Alone” was featured in the group Live, Love, Dream / “Alone” was featured in Still Life Photography

The sun in Asakusa, Japan. The famous for the Sensō-ji, a Buddhist temple dedicated to the bodhisattva Kannon. It is Tokyo’s oldest temple. According to legend, a statue of the Kannon was found in the Sumida River in 628 by two fishermen, the brothers Hinokuma Hamanari and Hinokuma Takenari. The chief of their village, Hajino Nakamoto, recognized the sanctity of the statue and enshrined it by remodeling his own house into a small temple in Asakusa, so that the villagers could worship the Kannon. The blessings of the Kannon gradually received a high reputation throughout Japan, and people near and far flocked to Asakusa to venerate the statue. During World War II, the temple was bombed and for the most part destroyed. It was rebuilt later and is a symbol of rebirth and peace to the Japanese people. In the courtyard there is a tree that was hit by a bomb in the air raids, it had regrown in the husk of the old tree and is a similar symbol to the temple itself. Just an intentionally underexposed shot done in black and white. /

Was delighted when I saw this part of the tree…it looks like a naked belly!! Canon 400D / ‘As is’ FEATURED in Canon DSLR (December 2008) The Arbutus tree can live to 500 years old and grow up to 100 feet tall and ten feet wide. They can grow with little soil and survive the harshest west coast storms in the winter withstanding high winds and pounding ocean waves. / T he Arbutus can store water in burls growing from its trunk thus releasing water when needed. The tree can allow branches and parts of its trunk to slowly die off so the rest of the tree can live therefore surviving droughts and catastrophes. / It is a deciduous tree (a tree with leaves) that does not follow the common habit of shedding leaves in the winter. New leaves grow and old ones die still, but there is never a moment with no leaves. This is rare. The new year brings anticipated by many locals as the Arbutus can change the look and smells of a whole coastline during the spring when the trees are decorated in white blossoms. In the summer, the reddish brown bark sheds its skin just like a bad sunburn. The bark curls up in slivers eventually falling to the ground so new greener bark can grow turning red again in the winter. /
The wall behind the tree was built in 1850 all the stones were lifted by hand, there are leaves at the top but decided this was a more affective capture. The power of nature when trees try to grow, even with the harness of drought against them Tree Party / Bare Roots / Exposed struggle / Between the foliage /

A magnolia flowering at the Rising Sun, Kensington in Adelaide, South Australia. It’s a pub in which I had an exhibition of my artwork at the time.

I am still learning and improving.
