The main staircase of an abandoned stately home.
A set of urinals in a derelict office building
A door leading into the main chamber of the primary engine at the abandoned gas turbine testing and reasearch facility.
The concrete remains of staircases at an abandoned seminary (priest college) just had too much of an Escher feel to them for me not to photograph them
Window Blinds, Decay, Urban Decay, Industrial Decay, Urban Exploration,
A corridor bathed in spots of light at an abandoned mental asylum.
Not sure what these things were for, but i can only imagine it was for access to the top of the machines that have been removed from this area since the place closed. I couldnt help but think of aircraft stairs when i saw them though, perhaps brought on by the fact the place we had stayed the night before was directly under a flight path of an airport.
Further up the corridor to the staff residence was another trolley, im guessing these were used for removals when this site was closed. Above it is the ivy coming through the walls and joints, what will be the removal of this building given long enough. There are already places where the joints and mortar are cracking because the roots of the ivy is starting to push through them and force cracks into them.
This office has definitely seen better days, with mouldy net curtains up at its window, peeling paint all over the walls and the floor, and even the seats are starting to be mouldy. As you can see there is even a hole right through the desk where part of the roof above has come through, and yet still there stands an old phone defiant and triumphant as plants grow around it.
I had to get a close up of this beautiful old girl, and i couldn’t help but wondering what tunes had been played on her through the years. I’m guessing someone was a decent player, because otherwise it would have been a more modest piano that would have been here. I remember as a kid that pianos would be referred to as Joanna’s in my family, though i think this grand piece would be deserving of a more grand name, so i name her Lady Joanna!
This is the marvelous view looking along into the chapel at this abandoned asylum, i absolutely love the colours and the shapes in this room, and the two trenches in the floor from where the pipework has been gotten to only add to it for me in this case.
I can see why this youth hostel was built where it was, looking out from the common room you are treated to a lovely vista right along the loch it is built on the shores of and now with no windows you are even granted a nice breeze off the loch.
One of the first rooms i walked into at this abandoned stately home was the kitchen, in which i was confronted by this view. Let me tell you, when you are walking round in half darkness and you suddenly come on this you get all kinds of things going through your mind. Luckily it was only a mannequin but that isn’t the first thing you think.

This little boy was absolutely loving exploring the Colosseum, or so it appeared for the few seconds that I actually saw him. I couldn’t help but think of when I was younger, and wanted to explore all the ancient castles and structures of the world. I’d put good money that every little boy goes through that phase, and this lucky one was actually able to live it out.
This was my final glance from the rim on the South side. From this moment forward I spent 8 hard days backpacking through the Grand Canyon. It was a magical and mind-clearing event. Yes, I packpacked with camera and heavy tripod. NO FILM to carry this time!!!

This is by far one of the most impressive chapels i have seen on explores, as could be expected of a seminary. Invariably when showing people into this section of the site, this will draw out gasps and statements of “wow” when people first enter. I remember the first time I came to this site myself, i must have taken 75% of my photos on that day in this room.
As we look at the scene before us, we see many lights in the sky. / And since man first walked upon this Earth, he as always wondered what they were, those lights in the night sky. / Has he became more aware through technological advances, he sort of understood what they could be. / And even to this day he still wonders, what hides in the great blue yonder. It draws us forever to explore the vast unseen, we know the substance of it, its there before our eyes. / But what do those lights in the sky really hide from our eyes. They hide the….... Substance – of things not seen This is my entry into the challenge ” The Substance of things not seen” And of course for me it would be about the void beyond this Earth. In the far northern hemisphere of Saturn’s moon Titan, lies the future city of Ringsview. I say future city because this will not be built until man decides there is more to life than this small planet. That beyond our atmosphere lies our future Of course to do that, humanity as first to put an end to war, and step into the future with one mind, as one people. / To take the human race to the stars, to explore the lights we have looked at in the heavens for thousands of years. This began as a watercolor on Yupo paper. I was amazed at how this underwater sea world appeared as I played with it on Picnik. I love the plant life that appears to be growing at the bottom and the tiny colored sea creatures that emerged. I especially love the abstract nature of this exploratory piece. I have become an underwater explorer and I never even got wet!!
Art over the centuries as boldly gone where no art as gone before! Art as evolved with leaps and bounds, it as crossed a great many mediums. And it had to happen, here we have the planet Epsilon-Epsilon. The planet was purchased by one individual for the sole purpose of creating a work of art. The planet as thousands of cities and towns, all built as different architectual art forms, they are not populated, in fact there are no beings that live on the whole planet. / There is a reception center on the largest moon, the “tours” can take anywhere from 1 to 10 years to complete. The artist know as *Alienvisitor plans to purchase the entire solar system and all 13 of its planets, so one day the system itself will become the art form. This is but a small sample of said art…...the city of Flight, the architecture here is based on but not exact of his *Cities in Flight Series. Featured in Images & Ideas Group 25/07/09
Featured in “300+ Go Long!” October 2009 This young Black Bear cub was exploring a grassy meadow in Yellowstone and kept stopping to smell the wildflowers and grasses, presumably to decide whether there was anything that would be tasty enough to eat. I watched and photographed him for around half an hour and during this time there was no sign of his mother and he didn’t seem in the least bit concerned about my presence. Photographic opportunities were however limited as the grasses were mostly taller than he was so it was difficult to get a clear shot! Tribute to a brilliant 80s Aussie film made in Richmond, Victoria called Dogs in Space and to Laika… the little space dog who sacrificed his life for the Russians and their fight to win the space race. ♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦ The first living creature allegedly to be sent into space aboard the Russian spacecraft Sputnik 2 was a dog named Laika. Laika was a stray found wandering the streets of Moscow. The flight was launched November 3, 1957. Laika is a Russian word for “dog”. It is said that before the launch, one of the scientists took Laika home to play with his children. In a book chronicling the story of Soviet space medicine, Dr. Vladimir Yazdovsky wrote, “I wanted to do something nice for her: She had so little time left to live. Laika died during the flight. Her remains burnt up in the atmosphere on April 14, 1958. Although advertised as another example of the superiority of the Soviet system, Laika’s mission also brought a few unintended results. In the West, Sputnik 2 renewed the debate over the treatment of animals, while in the U.S.S.R., the flight was widely ridiculed by ordinary citizens as propaganda.
