Hope that I haven’t been spamming everyone with all of the images that I’ve posted today. The truth is that out daughter came home for a long weekend from college last week and brought a nasty bug with her. She was fine when got on the plane and sick when it landed. I’ve been in bed with it for the last two days. As luck would have it, I have a new graphics software package to learn. I decided to make good use of the down time. Except for the aches and fever, it’s been a great day! If anyone is interested the software is called ArtMatic Pro, it’s a ton of fun, and it renders fractals in about 10th of the time my old software took.

Heya everybody!! :O) I Use this phrase an awful lot and really there has only been ONE person who knew what I was on about. So I guess now is as good a time as any to give you a meaning to Chookas!! [and sorry, no it is not my nickname :O)] “Chookas” is a theatrical term for Good Luck that my mum and her cronies in the [Australian] National Theatre Ballet & Opera company made up back in the 40s 50s. Back stage in a theatre it is bad luck to say “good luck” [or whistle or mention “Mac…” That Scottish play :O)] and the usual wish of “Break a leg” is not a dancer’s favourite so Chookas was invented. / I use it now to wish people well – good luck & happiness and all that :O) and it is spreading! :O) / I taught it to the singers Kylie & Danni Minogue [and all the other students in our school when we were there in the 70s] and Danni was lately a judge on a TV show and she taught it to the contestants there and thus most of Australia who watched her :O) I think she’s spread it through the music field and It has spread down through the theatre other ways as I have heard it returned to me from other people I’ve not told! :O) See !! So Chookas! :O) PS and yes I really did know the Minogue girls They were in lower forms at my high school. Danni was an angel but Kylie was a tramp in the makings! She wore dresses with hems just under her nickers and her hair piled high and make up and jewellery to rival any hooker and she “Owned” one of the toilets – terrorising anyone who wanted to use them with threatened cigarette burns or hairspray in the eye. But alas all the males in the school, students & teachers alike, LOVED her! It was as if she had some spell she could wiggle her bum and chew her cud [chewy] and they would drool! What’s more Kylie had a thing for my younger brothers and would come over seeking them Mum & I would cover for them and send her away and my brothers would slide out from under Mum’s bed gratefully! / But even better I was her last choir mistress ….. and I chucked her out of my special 5 part harmony choir because she has an inner ear problem and goes off key when others sing around her! I told her “Stick to Solo work or BIG choirs where it wont be noticed if you go off the note!” We went on to win the eisteddfod … she went on …. well we all know what she went on and did! <) / Karma slapped me with watching her walk into “The Sullivan’s” TV shoot time and time again until the Producer / Director bloke shouted “Cut! Someone write a part for that girl and get her out of everyone else’s shots!” and THAT’s how she got into TV. Worse still they bought MY uniform off me for her to wear cos mine was the old one! >/ gggggggrrrrrrrrr man did we hate her! >/ Sometimes I shout to myself KEEP HAPPY!!!!! :O)

in all societies there is one set of rules for the elite, and another for the masses. if you count yourself withing the elite, then you can happily disregard the rules as they were not written for you. if you are one of the masses you will naturally manifest this as outrage, and use this anger as a legitimate way of releasing your jealousy, as you are morally obliged to follow the rules set before you. the difference lies in the intent. whilst the masses try to capitalise, the elite merely amuse themselves. once everybody’s decided whether they are ‘red’ or ‘white’, we can stop this petty bickering and get on with a proper war

A comment was made by Salsbells69 which I figured inferred there was more to the story and there was. Here is how that early morning day and the posted image unfurled. As I explained I was woken up by the loud chattering of big birds emanating from the front yard. I went to the window and saw a very large number of Black Cockatoos attacking the flowers on the two Bottle Brush located there. I ran to the study, grabbed my camera, went running out through the front door and then slowly entered the garden, taking of lens caps and setting up the camera as I went. I had been out there awhile and the birds got used to me so I was able to move in reasonable close. My front garden looks a little like the Aussie Bush with drought resistant plants and a few rocks and boulders located around the place. It look alright and attracts a lot of native birds. I was awkwardly place on one of those rocks shooting away when I heard the unmistakable sound of teenage girls giggling. I gently turned around and there was a group of them walking past the house. It was then that I realised that I was only wearing my P’j shorts. I sheepishly gave them a grin and made a bit of a move to go back inside, but not without a last moment. I slipped off the rock, tried to regain balance, failed and went crashing into the garden (saved the camera though). Of course this got the girls laughing hysterically now but I don’t know who was loudest them or the damn birds who were now very raucous. My embarrassment was total when the girls came over to give me a hand up and out of the bush I was in. For a moment there was a bit of oooing and aaahing as they pointed to a few cuts and abrasions (I think thats what they were ooing and ahhhing about) but I just couldn’t hang around any longer, for my embarrassment was now total. I thanked them and got the hell out of there lol. Oh well I got some good shots. Peter / Note: I haven’t seen the birds or the girls back since lol

“Everything I’m not, made me everything I am” I was listening to this Kanye West song [no not because I have a crush, shut up!] and these words in particular spoke to me. It’s like we are so eager to define ourselves on another’s idea of who we are. We moan and cry about what we could have been, what our regrets are and what we could do if we go back in time. We talk so earnestly about what we lack Riches, / Courage, / Love, / Respect / and the list goes on / and on. It’s crazy when you think about it, that we have to have all these things in order to feel like we’re worth something in this world. The world accepted us from the moment we were born. We were accepted into this world, this life So why can’t we accept ourselves? In a way we have been tried to strive for something better, which is not a bad thing. We all have dreams and I say reach for the stars, but that should not mean in anyway that you are not good enough. I’m not some type of inspirational leader, just a girl wrapped up in her thoughts. And I’m thinking, there are so many things that so many of us are not And there are so many things that we are But eventually, because everything’s eventual, we’ll die and go wherever you believe you go when this life ends and wherever that place is, will the name you made for yourself, or the regrets that you’ve let weigh your heart even matter? Really? I’m a lot of things / And I’m not a lot of things / All and all, I’m Lorna / That’s it. / No more. Who are you?

Defining the Artist Within

As usual I’ve been reading journals around Redbubble where I’ve stumbled across something of interest: An article asking this question ... ... Are you an ARTIST? ... ... / links to original article Because my comment was getting quite lengthy, here it is: Let’s look at the word Artist. It has two syllables, each of which are pertinent to this discussion. ART ... Well, that is a subjective subject, that is very often objectified, objected to, and made an object of conjecture. Don’t get me started on that word. IST ... This is the important component, and this is the best explanation I can give. The suffix -ist is a suffix which is added at the end of a noun which corresponds to those verbs which end in the suffix -ise (which is spelt in American English as the suffix -ize) or those nouns which end in the suffix -ism. The suffix -ist is used to denote a person who either practices something or a person who is concerned with something or a person who holds certain principles, doctrines, etc. / For example, a person who apologises is known as an apologist, a person who writes plays is known as a dramatist, a person who works on a machine is known as a machinist, a person who believes in realism is known as a realist, a person who believes in socialism is known as a socialist, a person who believes in capitalism is known as a capitalist. / Extracted from an article at blurtitDOTcom . Therefore: If you practice art, you are an artist. Does this answer the question? Maybe not. / But it does bring up a far better question: ... ... Are you practicing/producing art? ... ... I’m not expecting nor wanting you to answer. That’s entirely your decision. Say it aloud if you must, feel free to tell the world that you are an Artist. I say it would be far easier just to be yourself, and the let the artist be revealed.

The Pied Piper of Hamelin
by ZeananaAs an explanation to my latest pictures ...
As an explanation to my latest pictures and I have decided to post an overview over the legend of the Pied Piper. Very much detailed information can be found on More about the Pied Piper The story is, that the city of Hamelin had a major rat problem and they promised whomever got rid of the rats a sack of gold. The Pied Piper answered their call and led the rats away. However, the city of hamelin did not pay him and so the following night he led away the children like he did with the rats. Now about the ending, there are several ones. One is, that he led them itno a mountain another one that he led them into the land called Cockaigne (Schlaraffenland) with huge Carnival, etc. However, I read a book in which the idea was brought up that he led them there, with no way back out and so they found themselves in this land that seemed to have everything and yet they were caged. / It did not help, that the world aroudn them changed with them. The more angry the children became at being chained, the bigger their fear grew, the darker and more dangerous the place became – reacting to the children’s emotions. That version was one of my favourite ones and remembering that part of the story, I shot those two pictures. I hope now it is a bit clearer, why my pictures carry the name of the Pied Piper of Hamelin :c) xoxo warm regards, Giovanna

I had to run earlier today so couldn’t explain what my latest four t-shirt designs are… not many people will get the concept unless they have a basic understanding of the different brain wave frequencies and their applications. Put simply, there are 4 main brain waves with beta being the active state we exist in on a day to day basis where all our physical senses are functioning, and thus the Sensory Overload t-shirt was born. The actual design that spurred me on to make the series was the Alpha Male t-shirt, which denotes leadership among other things and was an easy fit with the brainwave theme. Creativity is associated mainly with the theta brain wave and thus the colour combo and title of Creative Genius was established. A t-shirt that most on the RB community can create to. And low and behold the delta brainwave is associated with sleep and for one to be at that frequency and to be walking around, it probably would be a good example of Sleep Walking, I’ve seen it a few times and it’s funny as hell. Whether or not you can relate to brain entrainment, whether or not you can relate to the simple message behind each t-shirt which is literally spelt out in the title but not explicitly on the t-shirt, these are ‘feeling’ t-shirts that can easily and indirectly convey how you are feeling at a present time and place. You may in the zone creating a new masterpiece, or you may feel like you are on top of the world and have the midas touch, or things are getting a little tough and you’d rather be in bed, or life in the fast lane is getting a little chaotic, or, or, or…. That’s that, hoping the explanation makes sense. To explore brain entrainment further and for a better explanation I would recommend Holosync by Centerpoint Research Institute and the other would be Silva Life System by The Silva Method.

The terms pentagram and pentacle are sometimes used interchangeably. The most common precise meanings are: The word pentagram comes from the Greek: “pente means 5 (as in Pentagon). “Gram” comes from the Greek verb graphein, “to write”. The same ending is found in such words as telegram. Thus, pentagram refers to a five pointed star, or “any figure of five lines.” 8 It is most often used to refer to a symmetrical, five pointed star, with equal sides, drawn either with a single line or with two closely spaced parallel lines. Their overall shape is like the decoration on the top of many Christmas trees, and the stars on the American flag. An upright pentagram is a 5 pointed star with one point aligned upwards. An inverted pentagram is a 5 pointed star with two points aligned upwards. An upright pentacle is generally defined as an upright pentagram surrounded by a circle. It often takes the form of a pentagram printed on (or cut into) a flat disk. http://www.religioustolerance.org/wic_pent.htm However pentacles did not always have just a five pointed star encircled, in other magical texts, other shapes and linears encircled were also considered pentacles as well. For more information check this site out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pentacle However for the group Pentacle Passions, it is dedicated to the pentacle which is a 5 pointed star encircled. I hope this is helpful in understanding the requirements of this particular group, and deepens your knowledge a little more about the pentacle.

Hmm, where to start??? The Journey series started out as a single painting, as most of my series do, exploring layers and use of colour. Living and breathing art through the art school I go to, and constantly being inspired by the people who teach me, has pushed me so much further into experimentation than I would have ever gone in an isolated art practice, but it also prompted me to look backwards, and into myself. I am abstract… Abstract is the very definition of me… the way I feel, interact, absorb, and exist. So I believe this was the only way I could possibly create this autobiographical journey. The Journey Series is a working title. Each of the paintings included will eventually be given their own name and identity, for each of them has their own distinct purpose and place in my consciousness and memory. I use a very direct process, almost pure oil paint with very little to no traditional medium, although I sometimes use gel medium if I need the paint to go a little further or dry a little faster. Working wet into wet, I let my brush travel through each block of colour, letting the colours blend and mix. It’s all about the subconcsious, letting myself create a painting rather intuitively. I think that’s evident in the immediacy and spontaneity of the surface. As soon as I get close to my target of 20+ paintings, I’ll be pitching the galleries in the area for a show, and hopefully I’ll get one somewhere, because, already, I’m infinitely proud of the paintings, and have been getting very encouraging feedback from talented people I regard with the utmost respect. (Not to mention the fact that I’m an extremely poor, struggling art student who desperately needs to supplement her pitifully small income). :o) As the series progresses, the symbolism is becoming much more pointed. Vague shapes that were included in the first few have become recognizable for most (I hope), if they care to look for them. And those with a similar personal journey to mine, I hope, will find a sense of the familiar. They are autobiographical… The various states of existence, people surrounding me, events taken place, constants through my life… They’re all there, lingering, waiting for someone to discover them, in the same way that by painting them, I also, am discovering them. In the meantime, I hope those here at red bubble can enjoy them as much as I do.

Why I’m writing this, just showed my boyfriend my latest drawing, and after seeing it he said oh I like it, it’s very good(duuuh what else?)...., but what does it mean? I’m really disapointed here, do people really need things spelled out for them, are we so used having everything packed and delivered that we can’t be bothered to sit down and spend a minute trying to understand. He’s an artist and I know he can think, I’ve seen him do it, so, out of practice maybe? For me art is language, is my way of communicating with the rest of you out there, now some people get along and some don’t, I’m interested in people that think and reason, people that want to find out and decipher the message, curiosity is such an important trait in people, why stop exercising that, people will just get used to being told what to think. Art is emotion, if what i was thinking about when i was drawing something doesn’t get through, maybe I’m not good enough, maybe we have different points of view, maybe there’s more to it than I even know, opera perta, art that speaks for itself, and has more than one meaning, people are subjective, they feel and understand things differently, if I write there, what that drawing is about then you know and I have no idea if what I’ve done is actually as powerful as it’s supposed to be.How will I connect to anyone through it? There should be a standard set and people should be encouraged to think for themselves and not just trust my word, and maybe those 2 sticks represent the duality of nature, good and evil and so on, honestly they do, it’s not just 2 freaking sticks that are lifeless and pointless and if someone bought you a picture with no instructions you’d think it’s crap, I can write a description and find a meaning to anything, want to try me out, do it, send me a random image and I’ll come up with a deep powerful meaning to it, I am that good at bs. Have a wonderful day.
