As an explanation to my latest pictures and I have decided to post an overview over the legend of the Pied Piper. Very much detailed information can be found on More about the Pied Piper The story is, that the city of Hamelin had a major rat problem and they promised whomever got rid of the rats a sack of gold. The Pied Piper answered their call and led the rats away. However, the city of hamelin did not pay him and so the following night he led away the children like he did with the rats. Now about the ending, there are several ones. One is, that he led them itno a mountain another one that he led them into the land called Cockaigne (Schlaraffenland) with huge Carnival, etc. However, I read a book in which the idea was brought up that he led them there, with no way back out and so they found themselves in this land that seemed to have everything and yet they were caged. / It did not help, that the world aroudn them changed with them. The more angry the children became at being chained, the bigger their fear grew, the darker and more dangerous the place became – reacting to the children’s emotions. That version was one of my favourite ones and remembering that part of the story, I shot those two pictures. I hope now it is a bit clearer, why my pictures carry the name of the Pied Piper of Hamelin :c) xoxo warm regards, Giovanna

in all societies there is one set of rules for the elite, and another for the masses. if you count yourself withing the elite, then you can happily disregard the rules as they were not written for you. if you are one of the masses you will naturally manifest this as outrage, and use this anger as a legitimate way of releasing your jealousy, as you are morally obliged to follow the rules set before you. the difference lies in the intent. whilst the masses try to capitalise, the elite merely amuse themselves. once everybody’s decided whether they are ‘red’ or ‘white’, we can stop this petty bickering and get on with a proper war

A comment was made by Salsbells69 which I figured inferred there was more to the story and there was. Here is how that early morning day and the posted image unfurled. As I explained I was woken up by the loud chattering of big birds emanating from the front yard. I went to the window and saw a very large number of Black Cockatoos attacking the flowers on the two Bottle Brush located there. I ran to the study, grabbed my camera, went running out through the front door and then slowly entered the garden, taking of lens caps and setting up the camera as I went. I had been out there awhile and the birds got used to me so I was able to move in reasonable close. My front garden looks a little like the Aussie Bush with drought resistant plants and a few rocks and boulders located around the place. It look alright and attracts a lot of native birds. I was awkwardly place on one of those rocks shooting away when I heard the unmistakable sound of teenage girls giggling. I gently turned around and there was a group of them walking past the house. It was then that I realised that I was only wearing my P’j shorts. I sheepishly gave them a grin and made a bit of a move to go back inside, but not without a last moment. I slipped off the rock, tried to regain balance, failed and went crashing into the garden (saved the camera though). Of course this got the girls laughing hysterically now but I don’t know who was loudest them or the damn birds who were now very raucous. My embarrassment was total when the girls came over to give me a hand up and out of the bush I was in. For a moment there was a bit of oooing and aaahing as they pointed to a few cuts and abrasions (I think thats what they were ooing and ahhhing about) but I just couldn’t hang around any longer, for my embarrassment was now total. I thanked them and got the hell out of there lol. Oh well I got some good shots. Peter / Note: I haven’t seen the birds or the girls back since lol

As usual I’ve been reading journals around Redbubble where I’ve stumbled across something of interest: An article asking this question ... ... Are you an ARTIST? ... ... / links to original article Because my comment was getting quite lengthy, here it is: Let’s look at the word Artist. It has two syllables, each of which are pertinent to this discussion. ART ... Well, that is a subjective subject, that is very often objectified, objected to, and made an object of conjecture. Don’t get me started on that word. IST ... This is the important component, and this is the best explanation I can give. The suffix -ist is a suffix which is added at the end of a noun which corresponds to those verbs which end in the suffix -ise (which is spelt in American English as the suffix -ize) or those nouns which end in the suffix -ism. The suffix -ist is used to denote a person who either practices something or a person who is concerned with something or a person who holds certain principles, doctrines, etc. / For example, a person who apologises is known as an apologist, a person who writes plays is known as a dramatist, a person who works on a machine is known as a machinist, a person who believes in realism is known as a realist, a person who believes in socialism is known as a socialist, a person who believes in capitalism is known as a capitalist. / Extracted from an article at blurtitDOTcom . Therefore: If you practice art, you are an artist. Does this answer the question? Maybe not. / But it does bring up a far better question: ... ... Are you practicing/producing art? ... ... I’m not expecting nor wanting you to answer. That’s entirely your decision. Say it aloud if you must, feel free to tell the world that you are an Artist. I say it would be far easier just to be yourself, and to let the artist be revealed.

Heya everybody!! :O) I Use this phrase an awful lot and really there has only been ONE person who knew what I was on about. So I guess now is as good a time as any to give you a meaning to Chookas!! [and sorry, no it is not my nickname :O)] “Chookas” is a theatrical term for Good Luck that my mum and her cronies in the [Australian] National Theatre Ballet & Opera company made up back in the 40s 50s. Back stage in a theatre it is bad luck to say “good luck” [or whistle or mention “Mac…” That Scottish play :O)] and the usual wish of “Break a leg” is not a dancer’s favourite so Chookas was invented. / I use it now to wish people well – good luck & happiness and all that :O) and it is spreading! :O) / I taught it to the singers Kylie & Danni Minogue [and all the other students in our school when we were there in the 70s] and Danni was lately a judge on a TV show and she taught it to the contestants there and thus most of Australia who watched her :O) I think she’s spread it through the music field and It has spread down through the theatre other ways as I have heard it returned to me from other people I’ve not told! :O) See !! So Chookas! :O) PS and yes I really did know the Minogue girls They were in lower forms at my high school. Danni was an angel but Kylie was a tramp in the makings! She wore dresses with hems just under her nickers and her hair piled high and make up and jewellery to rival any hooker and she “Owned” one of the toilets – terrorising anyone who wanted to use them with threatened cigarette burns or hairspray in the eye. But alas all the males in the school, students & teachers alike, LOVED her! It was as if she had some spell she could wiggle her bum and chew her cud [chewy] and they would drool! What’s more Kylie had a thing for my younger brothers and would come over seeking them Mum & I would cover for them and send her away and my brothers would slide out from under Mum’s bed gratefully! / But even better I was her last choir mistress ….. and I chucked her out of my special 5 part harmony choir because she has an inner ear problem and goes off key when others sing around her! I told her “Stick to Solo work or BIG choirs where it wont be noticed if you go off the note!” We went on to win the eisteddfod … she went on …. well we all know what she went on and did! <) / Karma slapped me with watching her walk into “The Sullivan’s” TV shoot time and time again until the Producer / Director bloke shouted “Cut! Someone write a part for that girl and get her out of everyone else’s shots!” and THAT’s how she got into TV. Worse still they bought MY uniform off me for her to wear cos mine was the old one! >/ gggggggrrrrrrrrr man did we hate her! >/ Sometimes I shout to myself KEEP HAPPY!!!!! :O)
Would you like to see the show?
If you’ve read the descriptions on my pieces, you may have come across some wherein, amongst the steps and techniques, I mentioned “happy accidents”. In actual fact, happy accidents take many forms: a stroke that went a little too long,; a drip of paint where one was not wanted; a scratched area that needs to be recovered and is, in the process, transformed into something so much better than what it had been. These sort of things, to some extent, can and do happen when creating a digital art piece, too. Even fractals! You could be working on one for ages, and then someone bumps your arm at a crucial moment, and it is something else altogether. Art imitates life, life sometimes imitates art (especially Sci-Fi); it is only natural, then, that both should influence the others design. Yes? This happy little accident was something that may have to do with the hackers, or it may just be that I have too much stuff on my computer; or, possibly, it is both too much stuff and too many hackers, combined. When I was resizing ’ Emily On The Path”, this glitch happened – just as you see it, here. Obviously, it no longer looks much like Emily, face-wise, but, it has some intriguing properties that I might wish to explore later. This, then, is a happy accident. I didn’t want it, wouldn’t know how to get it if I did; but, now that it’s here, I like it, and I intend to keep it, and use it in the creation of something new. Now, as to sales: I did not set this as for sale, as I am only uploading it for the purpose of further defining “happy accident”. Also, I didn’t actually put any work into it, being making the original painting. However, if someone wishes to make a purchase, I could certainly be persuaded to upload a larger version and set it for sale. I might also sigh and call you a weirdo! Be warned!
Occasionally it’s hard to explain, or even remember, where you were going with a certain piece of art. For me, it’s more about getting it on paper, or capturing it with a camera, to reflect on it another day. Part of the mixed media collection. Old news print, wax paper, pen, ink, typewriter print, old photo of a commercial airliner juxtaposed with an empty billboard on the outskirts of Las Vegas, and magazine clippings on acid free paper. This will be a note to explain. Im going to be busy with work etc. but I will be loading pics occasionally. I will try to respond to you all but if I don’t please know I am reading your comments. I have arthritis and its hard to type much and I do that for a living… sigh. Even photo editing on days like today is a task. I have been dealing with this for some time but doing the transcription has just catapulted the condition from hours of typing. Something some of you know that I have been trying to back off on. For whatever reason I have always had problems with connective tissue.. tendinitis and I are old friends. Ruptured discs etc. Im 40 going on 80 some days lol. So while I try to regain some ground health wise please know Im still here looking at your art. My comments will sometimes be short or I may even just favorite the work. With the winter months coming it makes my hands and back hurt so I have no choice but to be brief. Now I am off to find some heat for my hands as they are seriously giving me grief this morning. Thank you for all your kindness and understanding. I truly love this group and feel like its become a second family. Such creative and sensitive people I have never met until now. Take care and just know Im around and I am at least looking and enjoying your creative genius. Hugs. Vonne
As I awoke to this first day of 2009, I am grateful to the breath of life and the beating of my heart, in rhythm with all those I love, respect and honor. As a peacemaker making resolutions (decisions as future actions), I decided that a RE-Solution was more appropriate, under the circumstances. RE- meaning ANEW and solutions, meaning the solving of a problem. As the vibrational energy sets my heart afire with the light of PEACE, the ONE feeling, being and vibration I wish most for our planet and humanity, I contemplated just how to activate them. Calling forth images of PEACE, I chose 3 images: / This image of myself bathed in the light of peace and love; holding hands with all those I love, honor and respect; and, Nature thriving again and respected by all. I allowed myself to be anchored with the feelings that these images emanated. / I then wondered what these vibrations would smell like and the first thought that came to my mind was Sandalwood, a scent that always calms and grounds me. / My imagination swirled with a rainbow of colors to choose from, that also reminded me of this feeling I wish to emanate, and my personal choice was Indigo, the color that resonates with perception, thought and morality, as well as in-sight. / Choose a phrase, was what ‘popped up’ next in my mind’s eye … as I heard the Dalai Lama say, “When we feel love and kindness toward others, it not only makes others feel loved and cared for, but it helps us also develop inner happiness and peace.” / Synonomous words of Peace to enhance the frequency, choose two…tolerance and non-violence came to mind. / Music always seals the deal for my soul, so choosing a song to accompany this recipe was in order, so many to choose from and low and behold from my 300 CD player, Robert Palmer begins singing It takes every kind of People – so this will be my theme song for this vibration. / What actions or behavior can I do daily that will keep this vibration or light shining, easy answers came…continue meditating and communicating with people around the world. / Writing out these details made them more concrete, visible, touchable and my training knows that if posted around my space and read upon daily (at least for the next 21 days), it will become a regular expression of the state of being that I have chosen for my Peaceful intentions. Inspired with the help of Debbie Ford ;) What images, smell, color, phrase, synonyms, song and behavior do you wish to emanate for 2009? Firstly, thanks everyone who has commented, faved or sent me encouraging or inspiring bubblemails regarding this series. It’s been fantastic and brilliant. I’m really loving this adventure. I’ve learnt a bit about photography, as well as how to go about something like this in a planned vs a random manner. But maybe that doesn’t matter at all – creation is by definition random….. People have asked a few questions too. So here is my take on it all. Of course its all open to interpretation too….. This series was inspired by Alex who set the group Gay Men’s Art and Writing a challenge. Writers in the group were invited to express in words love between men and photograph it (the challenge received either none or completely innapropriate submissions so was deleted). But I was on a roll not realising that one image would turn into an entire love story. The characters (‘fictitious’) started evolving and began learning about themselves / life / love as I/they went. They are primarily 2 young men who know the street well and have inspired a story of love (for each other) through chalk grafitti on the streets of Sydney. While the grafitti will wash away with the next rain, their love is now declared all over Sydney for the whole city to share. City’s can be barren places – deserts for emotion, love, intimacy and connection. Yet they demand so much. By deleteing (largely) the physical characters of Johnny and Dave, I am attempting to emphasise their love and beauty by contrasting it to the dirtier canvases of the streets of the city where many young people find themselves. In this case by using dereliction and decay, I try to emphasise this pure young love and at the same time the increasing trend of cities to sanitise real and human participation in the city….there must be order and controll. So this series is also a rebellion against that sanitisation and limitation. Call it anarchy on multiple levels maybe… Gay love cannot be expressed openly even in Sydney the same way any other love can be. So Johnny and Dave are forced to declare there love secretly, annonymously and rebelliously…on building site walls, pavements, and wherever they know the other will see it. Ironically huge sections of Sydney’s population can now see and participate in their love (although some grafitti been removed)...its only chalk… So…the grafitti is mine, I sourced locations and sometimes returned to them to shoot or re-write. I also staged each shot – occasionally with random pasers by. When a model is used I acknowledge that (in one image). The Stroy is not over – I have the last image in the series ready to be uploaded…and I also have some ideas of what happens next – it could go in various directions….. *Will Dave turn up? Does their love flourish? Or is their romance just words on a wall? * Cheers / Robert .)

Hello my Lovely Lolita Enthusiasts (If your not, then you will be by the time I’m through! :P) I thought I would make a journal with artistic inspiration this morning as to what the Lolita Subculture is all about. :P Lolita comes in several different types, but the most common styles are Punk Lolita, Goth Lolita, Sweet Lolita and Classic Lolita All of which have ribbons and frills, but they different in colors and styles. :D Lolita fashion is a style of dress orginated in Japan. Although “Lolita” is a reference to Vladimir Nabokov’s famous novel, and Lolita is often worn by teens, most adherents present themselves as Victorian children or baby dolls and prefer to look “cute” rather than “sexy”. Japanese culture places a higher value upon extremely youthful appearance and behavior than Western, and some adult women buy large amounts of products, such as Hello Kitty goods, that are typically marketed only to children in the West. Lolita fashion is perhaps a more visible extension of this phenomenon. In general, Lolita fashion tends to imitate Victorian-style girl’s clothing and often aims to imitate the look of Victorian porcelain dolls. Skirts are knee length and may have a crinoline or petticoat to add volume. As in mainstream Japanese fashion, over-knee socks or stockings are extremely popular. Black fishnet stockings and white or black tights are also common. Shoes or boots with high heels – though not usually stiletto heels – such as Mary Janes, complete the look. Frilly, ruffled or lace-trimmed Victorian blouses are also popular especially with “Gothic Lolita” types, who may also favour long skirts and jackets rather than overtly “childish” designs. Apart from the occasional shortness of skirts, designs are usually modest, sometimes with long lace-capped sleeves. Lace headdress and bracelets are usually worn. Gothic Lolita: / Gothic Lolita or “GothLoli” (ゴスロリ, gosurori; sometimes alternatively “Loli-Goth”) is a youth fashion among Japanese teenagers and young women. It emphasizes Victorian-style girl’s clothing and often aims to imitate the look of Victorian porcelain dolls. Gothloli’s name and origin is a combination of lolita fashion—appearing deliberately cute to the point of looking childish—and certain styles found within gothic fashion. / / / Punk Lolita: / Gothic Punk has a rock-inspired look. It usually features tartans, stripes, chains, piercings, and an overall more industrial look. Lolita punk is similar, but with a lolita twist. Lolita punk keeps the lolita bell skirt, but is less feminine and keep the elements of punk. / / / Sweet Lolita: / They have lots of lace and ribbons, usually light-colored (although there are black/white sweet lolita), attempting to look as cute and little-girlish as possible. End results typically exudes a doll like appearance. / Classic Lolita: / They are more traditional, look more like the Victorian fashion, light-coloured, also more mature-looking. Traditional Maid-style clothing and Alice in Wonderland-style apron may be classified into this genre. / / / Some Other Styles: Kimono Lolita: As the name suggest, they are crossover of Kimono and lace-featured skirt. / / Country Lolita: A style of Lolita with a Country touch. Fabrics are usually gingham or soft floral prints. Aprons are common, as well as small straw hats and other “country” accessories. / Shiro/Kuro Lolita: Shiro (“white”) Loli are lolita who wear all white, while Kuro (“black”) Loli are lolita who wear all black. Almost all brands carry items in this style. There are also lolita who wear only blue, pink, red, and so on. Each of these lolita is named after the color they chose. These Images and descriptions are not the property of myself, they belong to their respective owners. / References: / http://jerinae.multiply.com/journal/item/22 / Google images
acrylic mixed media canvas. plaster, nail. 19.7×15.7 inch ALL my abstract works of art are mostley done intuitively; I am affected and inspired by music; no painting is done without music; music is inalienable. see my profile.. but this work I have “painting” at first in my sleeping dream; after this i tried to paint in real this work from my dream.. / At these times I had a couple of dreams of crucifixion. I was innocent but got crucified at one hand. It was tremendously painful and my weight pulled me off the crucifix. But the nail was still stuck in my wrist and I knew that I would bleed to death if I took it out. / The pain was unbearable so I took the nail off. Each time I then woke up very frightened. I couldn’t interprete the dreams exactly but they keep me worried during the days as well. / Then while dreaming that same dream again I heared a voice telling me: paint a picture about it! / I used to work with my dreams for years and receiving such a clear hint made me aware of the importance of it. / Up till then I only did abstract and intuitiv paintings so this was quite a challenge since I think I can’t paint objectively. But I was determind to try. / / First thing I did was a to make a plaster cast of my hand then I designed the crucifix. It took me a couple of days….. But still – something was missing. / The dices were a spontaneous idea but it made sense to me even though they didn’t appear in my dream. This idea made me understand the deep meaning of my dream: The die is cast! / I was in a hopeless situation and left at the situations mercy at that time. / / I was very proud of my picture and showed it to my friends, but they just couldn’t understand my pleasure and commented it as obscure. It also scared them. / Explanations to it didn’t help on the contrary it worried them even more. Nevertheless I gave it a place of honour and I said: If I will bring this situation to a good end I will take the picture off the wall. It is there now for 2 years ….... / / But the nightmares of crucifixion are getting less and less and aren’t as intense anymore. Sometimes it might help to turn your dreams into pictures. Means the pictures will have room in your consciousness, they receive attention and even better: you might get an answer or explanation from your subconscious… for a better view here the original work / this work was accompanied by this song: / was featured in Imperfectly 08/09 / was featured in Healing Through Art (HTA) 4.10.2009 / was featured in Art & Dis(ease) 5.10.2009

Your help required for a Redbubblite who has sent me the following email: I paint and use coloured pencils and I read your article on selling. I have a major problem with getting my work onto Redbubble. I am the most useless photographer around and have a terrible time getting a decent photo or my work. The last piece I added was done at a printers by scanning in, but it is still very grainy. My problem is that every time I take a photo the shine comes out white, I figured out how to turn off the flash but it still comes out with big white patches. Is there any chance you could give me a tip on how to photograph my pictures a little better, I would really appreciate any help at all. I am sure there are many artists out there who either scan or photograph their work for presentation upon the internet. Feel free to explain below…

hey everyone, / I figured i better explain the series a little better! i actually came up with the idea last night. I woke up at 2 am and knew exactly what i wanted to do. I have a gallery showing in about a month and wanted something different and unique to show. The trends at the moment range from feminine issues, our world, womans issues, etc. so i think this fits in perfectly. The series consists of three images. / The first, titled ” new growth” represents the new growth that occurs all over our beautiful planet. A seedling blue spruce immerges from an egg shell to show life grows everywhere, the egg representing procreation and the seedling representing growth. The second titled ” New Growth gets a helping hand” represents humans as the predominate creature on earth need to do what we can to help the continuation of new growth, nature and wildlife on our amazing planet. In short our furture and our childrens future is in our hands. the third titled ” new growth without a helping hand represents what could happen if we continue to abuse our planet and don’t clean up after ourselves. our world will be destroyed and the new growth will be choked out!. A controversial series yes, but i have never been on to shy away from a challenge or an important issue. / i hope you enjoy the series. I will most likely frame all three in one frame for the show. New Growth / New growth gets a helping hand / New Growth without a helping hand /

To create a painting I normally start with a digital photo which I have taken. If necessary I will alter the photo to suit, i.e. may change the sky, add more people, and delete items I do not want in the painting. I usually use Photoshop for this part. / When the photo now represents what I want to paint, it is ready to be loaded into ArtRage as a reference image pinned to my canvas. / The parameters for brush size texture of paint, thinners levels are set to a starting point which suits what I am to paint. As I progress with the painting these are also modified, just as you would with traditional oil paint. / Paper size ant texture is then set up. / My photo is now added as reference image. From this point I have various methods I use for my colour palettes: / The main one is to set up a custom colour picker from the reference image, this becomes one of my palettes. / Next is set up a colour sample panel with all my primary colours on as one of my palettes. / Thirdly I will often select specific colours from the custom colour palette originally made, paint these into my canvas and then save a new custom colour picker as a new palette. / These palettes are now available for me to use as required. / With everything cleared from my canvas I can now add my first new layer. This is an important step in digital painting as with traditional painting. You can lay down the background and then with subsequent layers add the various levels of the painting blending and shading as you progress. / I will often make a line drawing in a default layer and set this to approx. 70% opacity. Next can come the brushing in of the colour scheme. The rest is painting as you would normally with traditional painting. / At the end you can merge the layers and start tweaking the colours and smaller details. / In my case I usually transfer this back into Photoshop for printing.

A special thanks to Karen (ArcadiaTempest) for starting me on this. Thank you all for your interest in ‘WHAT TIME IS IT’. / There seems to be a general interest in what God may have in his other pockets. So that I don’t have to repeat myself thought it easier to post this explanation. Now I know some may find this blasphemous and irreverent….to those people I apologise….but I figure that I’ve been given a sense of humour (some will argue otherwise) to use and I suspect God has a wicked sense of humour. I hope this response satisfies curious minds. Greatly appreciate your time in reading and commenting. Grazie.
