MUCH BETTER VIEWED LARGER Sydney is great for sunrises, it quite often receives spectacular sunrises as it greets the sunrises that appear from the east. This shot shows the city skyline as seen from North Sydney CBD on the northern shore of Sydney Harbour, in the foreground is Lavender Bay. Technique: HDR , 5 Bracketted images processed with Photomatix Pro with avery slight adjustment (sharpening & contrast) in Capture NX. Equipment: Nikon D300 , Nikon 18-200mm lens No filters or colour adjustment 1) RED SKY AT NIGHT… means that as the sun sets in the west, if it has a red hue or color to it, then the moisture was further west of their location. Thus SAILORS DELIGHT. A beautiful sunset. 2) RED SKY IN MORN…means that as the sunlight from the rising sun passes through moisture, it too will be red. This means that with the rotation of the earth, this will bring this moisture (and possible storm) right on top of them and it is only a few hours away. SO SAILORS TAKE WARN.” / I hope this bit of weather science helps.

The Queen Victoria Building is currently undergoing a facelift at $37.5 / million , one of the features is upgrading the paintwork to victorian period colours. This image shows “The Grand Staircase of Sydneys Grand Queen Victoria Building, and is an example of how grand old buildings can be restored ans still be used as money making concerns, in this case a grand shopping experience The Queen Victoria Building, now affectionately known as the QVB, was designed by George McRae and completed in 1898, replacing the original Sydney markets on the site. Built as a monument to the long reigning monarch, construction took place in dire times, as Sydney was in a severe recession. The elaborate Romanesque architecture was specially planned for the grand building so the Government could employ many out-of-work craftsmen – stonemasons, plasterers, and stained window artists – in a worthwhile project. Originally, a concert hall, coffee shops, offices, showrooms, warehouses and a wide variety of tradespeople, such as tailors, mercers, hairdressers and florists, were accommodated. The QVB fills an entire city block bound by George, Market, York and Druitt Streets. The dominant feature is the mighty centre dome, consisting of an inner glass dome and an exterior copper- sheathed dome. Glorious stained glass windows and splendid / architecture endure throughout the building and an original 19th century staircase sits alongside the dome. Every detail has been faithfully restored, including arches, pillars, balustrades and the intricate tiled floors thus maintaining the integrity of the building. / The visual message of Sydney’s coat of arms, on the cartwheel stained glass window, is that the beehive depicts business, the sailing ship – trade, and the dolphins – the harbour. Panel 1, on the left hand side, represents the Council of the City of Sydney, and symbols of architecture, while the letters I.G.B. on panel 3, on the right, represent Ipoh Gardens Berhad, the Malaysian company who restored the QVB. The symbols are of property developers – the builders. The bottom central panel represents the heraldic symbol of a finished building and the joining of two hands denotes the fusing of two cultures. There are many interesting and charming exhibitions and attractions throughout the building, along with portraits of the Queen. There is also a letter from Queen Elizabeth II to the Citizens of Sydney to be opened and read by the Lord Mayor of Sydney in the year 2085. Outside the QVB, on Town Hall Place, facing The Town Hall are the Royal Wishing Well and Queen Victoria’s statue. Self Portrait. I’ve become a bit of a solitaire addict as of late, so I guess you could call this my Guilty Pleasure!! / Experimenting with my new wireless remote, which is a bitch to use by the way. This is my White Rabbit photo for my Alice in Wonderland Series, it’s not quite the same style, so I haven’t made a big thing out of it, just tacked it on the end. But yes. It’s the white rabbit. Canon 450D. No geeky stuff, I can’t be bothered, it’s not like you miss it. ...I must admit though, I didn’t take the picture of the cards (shock horror!!) because I couldn’t find any. Wonga Wetlands is the result of what can be done with some imagination and the use of wastewater, the bird population is amazing, best times are early morning or the time leading up to dusk. The asrea is dotted with bird hides , a perfect place to relax with a camera and a good lens. Wonga Wetlands, on the Murray River floodplain is being gently restored from grazing land using Albury City’s environmentally treated wastewater. This is another absorbing natural conservation area featuring amazing 600year old Murray River Red Gums and an astonishing number of birds. Albury’s Wonga Wetlands incorporate seven lagoons covering a surface area of about 80ha on the Murray River flood plain. Take a wander to Wonga if only for the picture perfect Murray landscape views. There are plenty of bird hides and viewing points to take advantage of. ‘Wonga’ means cormorant in Wiradjuri language, here you may find the Little Black Cormorant, the Little Pied Cormorant, Pied Cormorant and the Great Cormorant. Still working on refining my night shots. Finally starting to get the results that I am aiming for. Still not happy with foreground, but I think I know what to tweak to get it how I want it. This was taken down at Newport Beach last Saturday night… a crappy night (again).... I seem to have the weather gods against me lately….. I don’t want much… just a full moon and a 50% – 60% low cloud cover.

BEST VIEWING LARGER I had great fun wandering this magical area , the home to hundreds of bird species that have made home to this oasis, add to that the wonderful sunsets over the Murray and to get one like this you do feel Blessed ! “Wonga” is Wiradjuri for Black Cormorant, still one of the most abundant bird species in this area. The Wonga Wetlands was named to give recognition to the local flora and fauna, and the important relationship the Aboriginal people had with this environment. *Restoring Natural Flow * / / A unique environmental development has taken shape downstream from Albury, along the floodplain of the Murray River – the Wonga Wetlands. The water that is bringing new life to this beautiful country is not directly from the river – it’s from the AlburyCity’s wastewater treatment systems. During the warmer months the reclaimed treated wastewater is used for irrigation, while in wetter months it is redirected to the wetlands, helping to restore the natural flow regime. Since the construction of the Hume Dam in 1919, the Murray River has been regulated for irrigation and does not flood as often. When flooding occurs, it is now often in the late Spring or Summer and is of a lower intensity. This alteration to the natural flow has dried out many of the floodplain wetlands and billabongs, destroying the bird and fish breeding habitat. / ... / A bit of an experiment. The addition of dots allows all shirt colour to show through making this image suitable for any colour (except the really dark ones). / I’ve seen people achieve the same effect on their designs with transparent colours but I don’t think RedBubble can print transparent colours properly and they go a bit blotchy. So this is an attempt at a workaround. Also available- /
