  • The endangered Cheetah is a large cat and the fastest land mammal over short distances. They once inhabited grassy plains throughout Africa and across the Middle East into Central Asia and India, but now are only found in eastern and southern Africa. Their numbers have declined rapidly due to people hunting the Cheetah for its pelt and the reduction of its habitat. The other reason is tourism as they are extremely timid and never return to a kill once driven off where insensitive safari operators are further adding to their decline by driving as close as possible to kills. Cheetahs are not strong animals so they cannot risk injury. They rely on their speed where they can reach 110 kilometres per hour and make sharp twisting movements to match their prey because of their long muscular legs and flexble spine. / The ‘Exotica Collection’ wildlife design portrays the beauty of the timid and swift Cheetah surrounded by African bird of paradise foliage while creating an awareness of their plight.

  • The endangered Asian elephant and the African elephants are the largest animals that live on land. Asian elephants live in parts of India and Southeast Asia. The Savanna and Forest African elephants live in Africa south of the Sahara. Elephants grow throughout their lifetime, the older it is, the bigger it is. Pillarlike structured legs and nearly round padded feet enable the elephant to run with little noise. The nose is a long trunk that they use as a hand, each places the tip of its trunk in the other’s mouth when greeting, while mother’s comfort her calf by stroking with it. Elephants love water, are excellent swimmers and bathe in lakes and rivers. They roll in mud to keep their tender skin shielded from the sun and insects. They have the largest teeth and ears of any animal, good hearing but poor sight. / The ‘Exotica Collection’ wildlife design portrays the beauty of the strong and intelligent elephant while creating an awareness of their plight.

  • The endangered Snow Leopard is the most beautiful and rarest of all the big cats, and is found at high altitudes in and around the Himalayas and summers in the Tibetan Highlands. Their long, thick, beautifully marked fur protects them from the harsh weather of their remote mountain home. A Snow Leopard has a cushion of hair on the underside of its paws which not only keeps its feet warm, but also spreads its weight and helps it to run across snow without sinking too deeply. Leaps of 45 feet (15 metres) have been observed. The Snow Leopard resembles the big cats in size but have many characteristics of smaller cats, they cannot roar but purr and feed in a crouched position as do domestic cats. A solitary animal, although males and females hunt together during the mating season, its survival is threatened by illegal fur trappers. Snow Leopard pelts are highly prized by the mountain people and skins are still regularly seen on sale in Kashmir. / The ‘Exotica Collection’ wildlife design portrays the beauty of the lovely and seldom seen Snow Leopard surrounded by blue poppies that grow in the snow while creating an awareness of their plight.

  • Two species of Zebra are endangered, Grevy’s and the Mountain Zebra. The Common Zebra is still numerous while the fourth kind of Zebra the Quagga became extinct in the late 1800’s. Zebras live in herds in the deserts and grasslands of eastern and southern Africa. They spend most of their time ,eating grass. They protect themselves from predators by keeping together while at least one member of a herd remains alert to danger at all times. Their large ears rotate to locate sounds, and their night vision is as good as an owl’s. The female Zebra carries a single foal for a year and the newborn can stand within an hour after birth and begins eating grass in a few days. Each has a distinctive stripe pattern, in particular the Grevy’s Zebra and so has been hunted for its hide. Zebras face an uncertain future in the wild. They must compete with ranchers and farmers for grazing land and scarce water resources. Many Zebras have been killed for their meat and hides. / The ‘Exotica Collection’ wildlife design portrays the beauty of the striking Zebra surrounded by African proteas while creating an awareness of their plight.
