I have been neglecting my B&W work for a while, but just had to shoot this for that purpose, albeit with a little SC in it. This is the handrail for the Turf Locks Pub at the beginning of the Exeter Ship Canal, near Exminster, Devon. I love all the grooves in it, worn away through years of wear and tear, and also shaped by the weather. I wonder how many people have had their hand on this ? / What stories would it tell if it could talk ? Thank you for looking. / Hope you like it. Exeter’s beautiful 1000 year old cathedral has the longest continually vaulted ceilng in the World. I carefully composed this image of a short section of the vaulted ceiling to be as symmetrical as possible and give a pleasing patternation created by the lines of the gilt decorated structural beams. As a footnote to anyone else trying this kind of composition, you get quite a bit of attention from others when you spend over an hour laying on your back in such a sacred building trying to get that special image. I discovered these old boats rotting away whilst I was walking along the bank of the river Exe at Topsham near Exeter. Nikon D80. Nikkor 17-135mm
- It’s the name of the closest boat. Taken in Port Isaac, Cornwall, down in the harbour whilst the tide was out. I may have overdone the HDR a bit here (I’ve got another few versions) but I felt like uploading it to rb just to see what people thought. It was a shame when I went down there just after new year as a particular boat – called winnie the pooh (=] !) – isn’t there any more. I’m not entirely sure what happened to it but it was disappointing as I still have memories of times spent mackerel fishing on that boat when I was much younger… Here’s a B&W version of this, as I think this might be a little extreme in the processing:

Exeter Cathedral, England, UK. This was the only one of many cathedrals we visited which appeared very much alive and evidently faith filled. / As further evidence of this, at regular set intervals during the day one of the clergy stood in the pulpit, asked everyone to stop and stand in silence while he prayed in this, the house of God. It only took less than a minute, but sent a clear message to all there beholding this beautiful place. BEST VIEWED LARGER

Exeter Cathedral (officially the Cathedral Church of St. Peter in Exeter) is a Gothic cathedral in Exeter dating mostly from the 13th and 14th centuries. It is notable for its stout Norman towers, its Gothic west front covered in weathered sculptures, and its beautiful nave, which boasts the longest unbroken Gothic ceiling in the world. Exeter Cathedral is considered the finest surviving example of Decorated Gothic, a form of architecture that flourished in England from 1270 to 1369. The Cathedrals of England calls it “the Decorated cathedral par excellence.” Frommer’s England agrees, adding that Exeter Cathedral is simply “one of the prettiest churches anywhere.” Information from Sacred Destinations Website / Here Canon EOS 400d HDR 3 bracketed shots processed in photomatix , tripod used. / Textures and layers added
