Pink Mulla Mulla. I have been aiming to develop a group of macro shots documenting the wild flowers of Central Australia for some time now. I’ve never been overly excited about macro shots of flowers but I am finding it challenging to create compelling compositions in such a small amount space. Photographing flowers does however require a similar approach to landscape photography as far as compositional arrangements are concerned. I am also enjoying the use of a very shallow depth of field a new area of work that I have explored very little in the past. Here I was lucky to have a very dark background that really let the flower become the only element in the image. The available side lighting lets the shape and textures of the flower to really come forward and dominate the overall composition.
