Ya, thought the title pretty much summed it up! Captured a couple night ago as the sun was sinking low out at Reunion Lake on the eastern plains of Colorado. The colors were just stunning, I was pretty awe struck, it yielded quite a few really nice shots! Let me know what ya think! / —-John
It is not how it looked in the viewfinder but it is how I wanted it to look in the end. The process of creating photographs is one with endless possibilities between the accurate recordings and significant transformations through camera settings and post processing steps. There is no "right" way to do all this and all options are available – at least for the open minded. So we choose the shutter speed, set the aperture, widen the angle or zoom in, highlight some elements, darken others, sharpen somethings, blur others, saturate and de-saturate, blend and hide,... all which change and transform the raw photo into something interesting for the eye – at times even visual art. Here I tried to create a piece of work that resembled the reality but also transcended into new visual dimensions which could not be seen by the human eye on location – merely in my mind. The long exposure and various post processing steps made this possible. The raw material was captured on Havskåren, a tiny island in the Oslofjord by the Nøtterøy archipelago. I posted this because I liked how the composition turned out. I also love the colors – muted yet warm and inviting. Earth colors. I hope you enjoy this work as much as I enjoyed creating it.
The close of a warm Summer’s day at Fairy Dell, Clifton Springs with the remains of The Long Jetty stretching toward the horizon. Pentax istDS Camera. Three exposures bracketed to create an HDR image.
Here’s my oldest boy paddling out just like me to watch the sunset after a very hot summer’s day. And yes, here I’m also in the water after him with the camera! / It’s similar to ‘My sunset’ but I wanted to share this one also :o) Nikon D200 / 18-200mm lens / processed in RAW with only the contrast and colour slightly upped, the rest is all real! No photoshop as I have already been asked.
*Sunflowers and Colorado Sunsets * Revisiting the Sunflower fields I miss so much, a magical place on the eastern plains of Colorado like no where else, a place one day I hope returns. As the front rage of the Colorado Rocky Mountains dances with the setting sun, this scene seemed something out a paradise lost, the kind of thing you only ever read about. On this day when shooting the sunset here, I shot over 400 shots and came back quite a few other times as well. Well worth it I would say! Hope ya all like it! / —-John Minolta 5D / Minolta 50mm f1.7 lens / Singh-Ray CPL / Marumi ND4 / Dynatran Tripod
A Fiery Dawn A Late Autumn Sunrise captured at Lake Estes in Estes Park, Colorado. It was to die for, to say the least….just the distant sound of the Elk bugling is about all you heard. The fiery tones of a Summer sunset are reflected on the still, calm waters of Balyang Santuary in Geelong. Pentax istDS Camera. An HDR image with three exposures bracketed and processed using Dynamic Photo HDR.
Well this shot did really well over on deviantART so I thought that I would also share with you all here too. (I honestly wasn’t expecting the 1600 odd favorites it received over there, took me by surprise!) Storm clouds fight with the evening sunset over the Colorado Rockies & Longs Peak. Every now and then I like to get a little artistic with my HDR’s and this is one of those, there is no right, no wrongs when it comes to photography and artistic interpretation, and i realize that not everyone likes that, nor this style, that is fine, I respect that, but I also ask the same of you to respect my creativeness, too! Now that being said, hope ya all dig it! / John See more on my website at www.jdebordphoto.com Minolta MAXXUM 5D / Shutter Speed: 1/25 second / F Number: F/9.0 / Focal Length: 80 mm / ISO Speed: 200
Driving home one evening from Glasgow, after a a holiday in Corsica, this scene begged to be photographed ! A gorgeous Summers evening, when all things seem to be at peace with the world ! / However, encounter Glen Coe on a day when the weather is as wild as can be, and you will experience the very sombre mood and brooding atmosphere that is ‘The Glen of Weeping’. The name of the lochan is a spelling nightmare !! Shot on a Canon EOS 20D, with polarising filter attached, mounted on tripod, f22, for front to back sharpness, RAW file processed in Photoshop CS3. / PUBLISHED ON THE FRONT PAGE OF ’ SCOTTISH FIELD ’. / http://www.scottishfield.co.uk/ FEATURED IN / http://www.redbubble.com/groups/unlimited-quality http://www.redbubble.com/products/configure/11320973

Featured in Rural Around The Globe August 28 2009. Best Viewed Larger This lovely gazebo, which is often used for weddings, is on the mountain at Blue Knob, Claysburg, Pennsylvania. I took this image on the evening of August 14, 2009. The original image was taken with the Nikon D300 and the 18-200mm vr Nikon lens. I had a lot of fun tinkering including hdr in Photomatix and subsequent Orton technique on the image in Photoshop and embellishments in Corel Painter 11.
