  • The very first photo I took of England!! The very first photo of my holiday! These two policemen just laughed when I asked for their photo!! / I was thinking of cropping into these smilee blokes, but I felt the buildings in the background needed to be included as well. / If anyone knows which bit of London this is in, could they please share? I can’t remember!

  • I saw such pretty little towns, and they were so close together. The youth hostels were always somewhere unique and interesting. There were beautiful stone walls and buildings so old… I was gobsmacked that there were so many castles!!! And everywhere it was so green!!!

  • It’s like a little town straight out of a storybook! The Castleton Castle is a bit tired though… it’s probably only a thousand years old or something!!

  • During a visit to my Aunt in Cumbria, we went to check out the steam trains. Of course we went for a ride as well… and her dog Spattie came too!

  • See? Fairy tales are true… here is a knight in shiny armour in real life!!! A real life Prince Charming ;D He was jousting in the gardens of Knebworth House, not far from London. He was the winner of the day, btw. There were no dragons to be seen this day… maybe they were out chasing maidens while the boys were playing!

  • This was the scenery I had to put up with when I was staying at a B&B while looking for work! Tragic isn’t it!!! So pretty and green… I stayed here for a couple of weeks.

  • I was in awe to see Stonehenge… but a bit disappointed to find it was fenced off and I couldn’t actually get really close. It was still awesome to see in real life though… so much bigger than I expected too!

  • As close as I could get without going over the fence. Such an amazing place!

  • Loch Lomond… one of the beautiful lochs of Scotland. I didn’t have a lot of time in Scotland so didn’t get to Loch Ness like everyone else does… I didn’t get to Ireland either, so I’ll just have to go for another holiday one day!!

  • This looks like it came straight out of a model train set… except its a bit bigger and has a blue car at the base, with a wombat on the steering wheel!!!

  • Still near Loch Lomond on my day off from working at the Plough Inn at Selside. I followed the path that leads to Rob Roy’s ‘hideout’ for a couple of hours, but it seemed to go for miles. Has anyone actually been for a trek all the way around this Loch?

  • Not far from a youth hostel at Verona was this amazing building. Part house part cave!! I can just imagine young Romeo climbing the vines to seek out his sweet Juliet.

  • St Anton, Austria in the summertime… such glorious mountains!

  • One of the bridges in Bern, Switzerland. Their buildings and bridges show so much character and history.

  • A group of talented musicians from Peru, playing in the city streets of Bern, Switzerland. They played the most beautiful music… I’ve not heard any other buskers as good as these guys were.

  • In Switzerland, near Kandersteg, was this footbridge crossing over the train track. It was steeper than it looks… but totally beautiful countryside!!

  • Did you know that these Swiss cows speak the same language as our own brown eyed beauties? They all say ‘mooooo’ in the same dialect!!

  • The beautiful Reichbach Falls in mountainous Switzerland. This is only half of the waterfall!!! We hiked to the top on our way to some caves. This was taken with 35mm Kodak 400 film, using an Olympus twin zoom camera. It was a lovely sunny, day in July. No flash, no zoom, no filters.

  • A beautiful waterfall in the mountains of Switzerland. This photo is showing the amount of water rushing to the edge but it doesn’t really show the speed. It was icy cold water too.

  • Some of the mountains surrounding the township of Kandersteg in Switzerland. Just a trainride south of Bern. / Imagine camping here for 2 weeks in July with thousands of others from all over the world!! It was an incredible time!! / I was here for what the Scout Association calls a ‘World Moot’. Like a jamboree for scouts, except it’s for rovers (18 to 26 year old scouts). We had many adventures and also heaps of fun!!!

  • Every new adventure has a beginning… why not start one by getting off a train in the midst of the Swiss Alps?

  • The picturesque township of Leukerhad is nestled inbetween these mountains that stand more than 3500m high. Behind me, all the way back down at the base of the mountain is the town of Kandersteg… at least we had footpaths to follow!!

  • Some of these homes had dates of when they were built… hundreds of years ago!! It was fascinating to see such ancient houses among the newer ones (which were still over a hundred years old!).
