A proud stag in the rain in Glen Etive.
The Buchaille with the remains of an inversion being lifted by the suns heat. I’d been dying to get away with my Canon and let it loose somewhere I am famililar with to see what I can get with it. Having just come off nightshift, I knew that there had been early morning mist recently, getting burned off by the sun fairly quickly. I rose at 3am and hit the road, arriving just as the mist was starting to clear. Canon Eos 5D, 17-40L lens, at 24mm, f22, ISO50, with a 0.9 ND grad (Hard edge) and a polariser (not fully polarised). http://lewisgolbourn.redbubble.com/
A low angle 10×8 shot of the Buchaille from a well used spot on the RIver Coupall, one of my favourites that I have taken from here. Canon Eos 5D, 1.2 ND, 0.9 soft ND Grad, 8 seconds @f22, ISO 50 http://lewisgolbourn.redbubble.com/

A storm brews over the mountain that sits guardian to the wild moorland, reflected in the river. A little bit of light on the grass enlivens the scene. The Buachaille forms a perfect pyramid at the head of Glen Etive as you travel across Glen Coe. The Scottish Gaelic translates roughly to mean ” The great herdsman of Etive” or the “Shepherd of Etive.” / Immensely popular with climbers and photographers alike ! / Mother Nature very kindly placed a burn (stream or river) in JUST the right place for a wonderful photographic composition ! I have applied a little HDR. / Taken on my CANON EOS 20D, with polarising filter, f22 for DOF and to blur the moving water, mounted on a tripod, a single RAW file processed in Photomatix, and adjusted in Photoshop CS3. I took this shot back in June 2009 & on August the 19th 2009 some kind soul bought a poster of ‘Lost & Found’ / The bike shed and bike belong to Forresters House which is just along the drive from the shed. It belongs to friends of DaRat; Debbie and Mick. DaRat informs me that the shed and bike are still there and that its a popular photographic subject with many other enthusiastic photographers. Debbie & Mick bought a print which they will frame and display in their lounge as a reminder of their famous shed. / Many thanks to you both, hope all the new visitors don’t spoil your peace & tranquility. / If you want to take the same shot just head along to Glen Etive, you should find the bike leaning against a shed. / Lost & Found is primarly intended as a canvas print but all image options are available all the way down to a greetings card which can also be framed. /
The Buachaille Etive Mor (Great Herdsman of the Etive) is one of the most photographed mountains in Scotland owing to its dramatic character, its varying moods and its dominant position at the head of Glencoe. The mighty mountain Buachaille Etive Mor near Glencoe, Highlands of Scotland.
Buachaille Etive Mhor sits between Rannoch Moor, Glen Etive and Glen Coe, a fine looking mountain from any angle. Here it is further enhanced by pristine snow and a little mist. Taken around twelve years ago, a Fuji Velvia slide scanned with my Nikon Coolscan VED, then cleaned up in CS3. / I cannot remember which camera I used, or the settings, but I would guess f22, and definitely a polarising filter ! Glen Etive, Glencoe, Scotland.. it was raining, and when it was not raining it was misty/drizzly, and I spent more time wiping the lens than taking photos : ) Canon EOD 300D / circular polariser and 121s graduated filter. Tripod mounted, used self timer rather than remote cable in order to have the countdown time to wipe the rain off the filter!

On the banks of the River Etive in Glen Etive
The beautifull Buachaille Etive Mor in the Glencoe mountain range , Scotland. Photographed with some fine friends and fellow photographers on an ePHOTOzine members meet last saturday (7th Nov) . We got up at 4am to drive the 2 hours from Pitlochry to Glencoe for sunrise. When we arrived it was cold, grey and raining and you coulden’t even see the mountain the fog was so bad. We persisted though and were rewarded with some nice early morning light :) It’s taken numerous trips over 5 years to get a decent pic of this spot, one of my favourite in Scotland. Hope you enjoy it :) canon 400D , sigma 10-20mm Lee filters. iso 100 F16 Raw
Taken on the same morning as the previous upload of Buachaille Etive Mor , this time looking in the opposite direction . While waiting for the mist to lift from the Buachaille and for a bit of light to break through , I noticed there was some nice effects on the mountains behind. The pictire lacks a bit of the colour and light we got later on from the Buachaille , but I think it captures that moody, brooding feel that Scotland often has . Thankyou so much for all your great comments yesturday and sorry I can’t answer everyone induvidually! Canon 400D , sigma 10-20mm , Lee filters F16 iso 100 . Raw
A landscape version of this beautifull spot near Glencoe, Scotland. I found it much harder to get a good landscape composition , I think this is probably the best one I managed . / I Still prefer the portrait version overall but I do also like the three waterfalls in this one and the way the water has been slightly warped by the edge of the wide angle lens. Apparently a friend of mine wen’t here just 2 days later and there wasen’t any waterfall at all, so I think we bagged it just in time! :-)
I took a drive up to Glen Coe again today, and waited for some decent light at Lochan na-h’achlaise for about an hour. It was bloody freezing and I got nothing decent at all. I thought the light would be good for the Buchaille so went off and hit my usual spot near the Ski Centre. Shortly before this shot I had repositioned slightly, and my filter holder, 1.2 ND and 0.9 hard grad plaunged into the icy stream. To say I was not happy is an understatement, ad I immediately thought of some of my flickr contacts who have lost filters to the sea, so I was determined to get these back. My wife came to the rescue after seeing me rooting around blindly in the river, and brought my waders from the car, as well as her polarised sunnies to help me find the filters. Once they were found and dried, I shot this. The waders were pretty useful, not only did they help retrieve my filters, but they helped get pretty low in the river for this shot (by standing in a hole!) Canon Eos 5D, 17-40L at 17mm, f16, 8 seconds at ISO 50. 1.2 ND, 0.9 hard grad and a polariser to bring out the reds in the foreground rocks.
Another shot from my last visit to Glen Coe. This was well after my filters had fallen in the river, I stood for about 20 minutes in freezing water in my waders waiting for the light to get better. A large bank of cloud started moving in the direction of the sun, so I elected to shoot a few more frames, then get in the car and thaw my feet out! I went for a longer exposure to show how much movement there was in the clouds, pretty windy high up I think. Canon Eos 5D, 17-40L at 24mm, f16, ISO50 with a 1.2 ND and 0.9 hard grad
