This is my “Supreme” 2008 Aquatint Etching! Well, it is a copper plate etching, which has been aquatinted over and over and over again, until at last, its love finally! This is my daughter, she is sleeping and dreaming…her soul is at peace as she falls into a deep sleep. This is my third copper plate aquatint etching for the year….they are all 30×30 plates on A2 cream University paper. This one is my favorite though. I have printed up 10 of this edition, and can’t wait to print up some more. I am absolutely wrapped in this one. I hope you like it to, if you have any questions about etching or aqautinting please ask me, I would sleep in the print room and breath in the ink and ferric acid every day if I could! People would sit on the bench before or after placing / flowers on their loved ones place of rest, the bench / seemed to be waiting for the next person to sit and / contemplate their thoughts and memories…............... Beech tree etching using Burnt Umber ink and printed onto Sommerset Ivory coloured fine textured etching paper. The copper plate for this etching is A4 size took me 20 / hours to work on it with an etching needle. Each print / takes 1 hour to ink up and polish before printing. This tree seems to have a life of its own and is so / magical. This etching is from a sketch I did in the / Norfolk village of Withersdale Street. BEST VIEWED LARGER ANCIENT PAGAN WISDOM BEECH TREE – PHAGOS – QUEEN OF THE WOODS The Beech tree traditionaly known as the ‘Queen of the / Woods’ beacause / of its beauty and femininity shars its honour with the / Kingly Oak . Local / British traditions associate it with serpents, probably / because of its / serpentine root system, which are revealed by soil / erosion when they / are planted on hills or slopes. Behind this again lurks / the notion of the / wise serpent giving knowledge to those who ask for it. / Several altars to / the beech have been discovered in the French Pyrenees, / suggesting its important to the Celtic tribers who lived / there. It is said that no harm would / ever befall a traveller shelting beneath its branches, while / prayers uttered / in its shade were bound to be answered, just as any curse / spoken there / was said to be more effective. Slivers of beech wood and / leaves were once carried as talismans to bring good luck / and increase creative energy. / Wishes carved on beech wood wands which were / subsequently buried in / the earth, were said tto be particularly effective and, as the / wood rotted / away in the earth, the wish was released to bear fruit in the / outer world. / Thin leaves of beechwood are said to have been bound / together to form / the first book, which is ceretainly in line with its central / association with / writing and the transmission of lore. The Anglo-Saxon word / for ‘beech’ / was bok (which became book), in German Buche is ‘beech / and Buche us ‘book’, While the Swedish word ‘bok’ means / both ‘book’ and ‘beech’.

A combination of an etching and linocut embossment. 25cm X 28cm on BFK Rives Etching on zinc plate – hard ground (for main shapes), soft ground (for textures) followed by a deep bit for added zing. Inked up in black only. Linocut embossment – much easier: cut up the pieces of lino to match the size of the zinc plate and cut into the lino then emboss the wet paper. No aligning needed as i ran them through the press concurrently.

This is a print , done by drypoint etching into acetate. Then, experimenting with different colours. Taking this print home and playing around with pens. This is the result. I kind of like it. I have an edition of about 20 and all are very different. I will put the original addition next to this one so you can see what it looks like without the messing around with it. Thank you. Aquatint Print on Arches Paper. Size A1 This is a 30×30 Copper Plate Print. I have then etched and aquatinted it. I am still in the process of perfecting this print. It is still not finished. This is a hand coloured copy of it for now….I will change the picture over when it is complete. I love this print so much. It completes my series. I hope you love it as much as I do. In the backgroun lies the devestation of her past. her introspection allows her to focu away from her past and into the future.*

This is my second copper plate etching with aquatint. The process is long but so rewarding. This is also done in collaboration with Barssel’s TheSea and I will post his link to his original photographic work of this model. Its because of his kindness that I am able to produce such works this year….not too many woman want to get naked for me….? Anyway, the copper plate is etched then but into the ferric acid. So what you have at first are lines and marks…which is great but I want a deeper bite then that. So then I spray and put plate back into the ferric acid. The lines bite deeper and where I have dusted with bitchumen spray the plate bites. I take the plate out of the acid and cover up or “stop” out the areas I want lighter and return the copper to the acid bath. This can go on all day, as each time I print up a copy to see where I am at. This plate was completed yesterday and I am happy with the final result. Printmaking is an amazing medium to work in, its endless with possibilities. I am so passionate about the art now that I doubt I will ever want to do anything else. Its like leaving your mark on a piece of paper, a mark that is etched forever…its old fashioned but I love it. Hope you like “Ruban Jane”. Billy Delta Dawn / !
