by MrJoopAt the Annual General Meeting, of the Dutch Australian Cultural Centre, held at the Consulate-General of the Netherlands, in Bondi Junction, Sydney, Archivist, Maie Barrow, gave a most informative and entertaining talk on the subject of the way Estonian culture and heritage is preserved and enhanced in Australia. / The Estonian Archives in Australia (EAA) were established by the Council of Estonian Societies in Australia on 5 January 1952. The EAA is one of the three Estonian Archives existing outside Estonia and holds an important collection of material relating to the lives and achievements of Estonians living outside Estonia. / The Australian/Estonian collection comprises personal and family papers, records of organisations, photographs, films, videos and DVDs. / More information here and here and here / ... / / On the left-hand-side is a photo of the doctor, my mother, my father, another doctor, and the receptionist. / / I know that the lady, on the right, still misses my mother, laughing at my mother’s shorter fuse and readiness to say just what she thought, but remembering great times together.

Estonian, who are they? I have heard they speak a soft, melodious language. All Estonia is singing, we have big songfestivals. Estonians are poetically inclined, with lively imaginations and good memories. They are benevolent and of a friendly disposition. We are hoping that all world will know Estonia as very young and small country, but the same time smart and beautiful. I am proud of Estonia and Estonians who were regaining it’s independence in 1991, after 50 years of occupation with singing revolution without any drop of blood. Music sustained the Estonian people during occupation years. About our awakening have been made a film “The Singing Revolution” Estonia lies along the Baltic Sea, just below Finland. Tallinn, with its medieval city centre, is Estonia’s capital city.

I took an Avatar of someone I chat with in Estonia (I live in Florida).. he’s a very clever artist and I enjoy his work, so I took pictures in a ZEN GARDEN near my house (It’s a museum dedicated to Japanese immigrants) and used them to build his avatar into a portrait. The hair is made from the roof tiles of a zen garden wall, and the face was made from one of those bamboo fountains that fill and tip, fill and tip He talks like Yoda when he speaks English and he always makes me smile :)
