In this abstract, I have attempted to capture the essence of an Arabic street market scene. / I worked quickly and used instinct and subconscious, rather than technical composition skill. I have used glued painted paper shapes, then painted an impressionist watercolour scene around the collage. 16th Sept 2008 update. / I’m currently working on a larger, watercolour-only, version of this 14”x10”. / less abstract and more real, but with impressionistic aspects.

The last print, thus far, in the Prot +A series (a small series of prints that pays tribute to some of the technological innovations of the past that have helped shape society [and myself] but have now become outdated and fallen into disrepair). The centerpiece of the Essence print is a vintage Turntable. I never owned my own record player, being on the cusp of their demise, but I appreciate the technology and tend to prefer the ambiance of its sound. The Queen Anne’s Lace shows up throughout the series as a symbol of antiquity. I designed the overlying pattern especially for these prints, used primarily in the Essence print but also appearing in the Revolution (camera lens’) and Nostalgia (computer screen) prints. Title thanks to my husband… I was stumped and when I asked my husband for a suggestion for the title he said the daisies were natures beauty and shone amongst a gloomy winters day, which to him is the essence of winter. In this piece I depict myself fully at one highest peak. Fully grown and uprooted from the ground , no longer being over looked, stepped on and struggling to stay alive. I now have a chance to breathe, to live, to thrive….This is the state I want to grow into one day I’m still uprooting myself at the moment….hope you like. done in graphite on 8.5×11 paper

Noosa Main Beach, this is what Noosa is all about :) 3 Frame sunset HDR, one of the frames had this pelican flying overhead, all three had the still surfer. Pelican pasted back over the ghosted figure the HDR created. Noosa Main Beach, Noosa Heads, Queensland. Canon 50D, 10mm, 16:9 crop.

I am forever talking about essence and being in the moment. This shot is very representative of this aspect of photography. I feel tremendous energy emanating from this image even though the scene and shot does not seem to have anything unusual about it. The shot was taken many years ago of a friend who has a very powerful but destructive energy. On this day her energy was very much at peace and her power has been presented from what I believe to be her true essence. Kindly used with permission as part of the Bubblers portraits group. / I did not try for a true likeness this time, but rather an essence I hope (hence the title). It seemed appropriate to use as part of my Asian series as Alexandra’s detailed and delicate paintings/drawings always remind me of Japanese Art. I hope to use the reference picture again.
