For me what really stands out about this shoot is the when and where of how. / The location? Britannia beach. Why is this so special? Well, I grew up not far from this beach here in Ottawa. I know live down town and I very rarely get back here. Something very interesting happened after this shoot was over. First let me give you a tiny background on me and the Summer of 2006. I went a little nuts and did about 15 full day all out shoots almost non stop. So much that I’m still going through them! / So much so that by the time I was finished shooting Erika my left eye was actually hurting so much it was going out of focus! / So after this shoot I decided to just sit and relax and watch the sunset, (with my one good eye). / So the bench I planted myself was located behind a volleyball tournament with the sun behind the players, silhouetting them. / While they where playing they began kicking up allot of sand dust. The entire scene had this eerie other world feeling. / Yet I’ve no pictures of that. Not because I was out of film. Forced by my one bad eye I was reminded that I don’t have to take a picture of everything. Sometimes it’s nice to just sit and watch. / The full set can be viewed at the link below. / http://www.flickr.com/photos/jefharris/sets/72157600000540315/
This is by my daughter for the Children’s Art group. Honest!
This was one of those freak photos, straight off my camera, the only thing i changed was the white balance and the original was in color!!!... i walked straight past this spot on the walking track and my friend pulled me up!!! Spider webs were every where, there was late afternoon fog that had nt lifted, sun was perfect, dead trees, it was all there!! 30 mins later when we walked past, the sun was too low and the fog had lifted and the web could hardly be seen!!! freaky…......right place…......right time…....hahahaha…
Erica the Red / Karin Taylor / Mixed Media Production / Ink Pastel Acrylic Charcoal / from the Inspired Series of original paintings
Of my daughter, for my daughter, but without my daughter (to model) This is is a combination of digital manipulation via the use of cloth patterns that were scanned and utilized, digital drawing, and digital painting. Since the cloth patterns started out as real cloth, it is mixed media. The symbolism in this piece is more personal to my daughter, and myself; but, I know that other people have been drawn to it for the same sort of reasons as it was about her. Partially inspired, also, by this song, which I kept singing as I was making it. This is the first time I saw the video, though! Haven’t finished watching it, even, but, boy is it weird so far! Erica is a very pink sort of girl , living in her very pink sort of world / She likes to swirl it around dots, like the moon, and drink it down / In eyelet lace and leather, skulls and kittens, she dances on gravel / Swims in lakes of geese, eats sushi but hates rice and fish, this / Is part of the whole, but, only a surface scratch leaving a pink scar PS: Editing group: This involved a lot of editing! Please read first reply to comment! Feminine intent: The intent was as a mother, to express something of her daughter to the world, and also to express to her daughter that she is seen. Not what it seems: Most people think this is a scan of a painting that involved a lot of texturing work, mixed media, etc. Since it is purely digital, minus that the cloth was once real before scanning, it is definitely not what it seems. Does that count? I don’t know! Let’s find out! This piece is, or has been featured
A test I did with Erica Sliverman She’s incredibly talented it was a pleasure working with her, while i don’t think this was the best in the series i still like it!

Impromptu portraiture of my eldest daughter
gorgeous girl. amazing style. / my kind of photoshoot!!
Erica’s favorite, for reasons which should be obvious to those who know her (Or, it was at the time I posted it!)
Similar to my previous image – what am I ... it looks spectacular the larger you view this photo. Some thought the previous flower was a Hoya, others, Erica … not sure but it is unusual and pretty.

Okay, so, I have told you how to get to here. If you’ve followed the instructions, you should have something fairly close to this. You do not have my permission to sell any of them, as long as they still bear a strong resemblance to my work as I am going to sell them – potentially. However, if you muck them up on your own, to be vastly different, no problem. This is where the instruction ends. Anything after this, it’s only my business and probably will involve drawing and painting by hand rather than using filters and such. Hope you enjoyed it, while it lasted.
This is done from a photo of my daughter, Erica. I do not know who took the original photo, but, it was probably her, and she definitely gave me permission to do as I wished with her piccies. This is also purely editing, enhancing if you will, of a photo. I did some masking, erasing, terrazo effect with her hair selected, alchemy, and a bit of layering; then resizing and cropping. That’s mostly all I did, anyway; I may have forgotten a thing or two. Pretty, huh? Check out the original! / I had a lot to work with! I haven’t seen Erica in a while, so, I was still thinking of her as the last time I saw her – which was still beautiful, methinks, but, wow! Now she looks more mature, and the haircut is fabu, and, I need a loaded shotgun!
This is the painting! A lot of fun it was to make, too! Many steps, many strokes, much layering Even though this is technically her, it is, also, very much me and how I feel. What does it mean? It means, there is an exquisite torture of limitations to my being; and, all my days, I could feel life crumbling down. It’s been a long journey, and there is still far to go. I’m sinking in the quicksand of my form, and I ain’t got the power, anymore. / (David Bowie’s line) I am tired I want but with faint heart .. I breathe, but in shallow gasps .. I believe, as one remembering I wake, but halfly… but, I remember the colors, even in my darkness.

My neighbour thinks this is lovely. The flowers are but the vine it grows on has run away into my yard. They are designated weeds in Pine Shire!

This is one the spiders didn’t attack and it really looked that dark when I snapped it – almost black!
